Night 50: Main Hallway, 1-West

[from here]

It looked like the hallway opened up over here. Guess he couldn't expect to just run around and follow a linear corridor forever, but now he had to figure out which way he wanted to go. Normally, he'd just run down whatever hallway he happened to lay eye on first, but again, he was running a liiittle blind here.

He still wasn't seeing any people anywhere. Maybe everyone was hiding. If everyone knew the staff turned into monsters and tried to eat them, then it'd make sense that they'd try to keep low. Thankfully, he'd be taking care of whatever was wandering around this place, so they wouldn't have to stay hiding for long. Once that was done, they could blast their way out of there and he could find his way back to the others. Couldn't keep everyone waiting on account of him, right?

[running across Rita, The Trickster, and hopefully, a freaking flashlight]

Kurt made a strangled noise and flailed to retrieve the sheet before it could completely fall away and reveal how... different... he looked, but he hadn't expected Minako to take it in the first place.

"A-ah, wait!" he looked around frantically, trying to see if anyone was staring at him or getting ready to 'rescue' Minako. Fortunately, the area they were in was largely empty. His shoulders hunched and his tail curled defensively around his leg, as though hiding, while she looked at him. He knew he wasn't the most beautiful thing to look at, so these periods of being 'studied' always made him nervous and self-conscious.

He supposed he shouldn't have been so surprised when Minako offered to wait with him, but it did register on his face. No questions, no raised eyebrows...

"Y-you sure?" Kurt asked, ears perking up at the idea of not waiting in a hallway wrapped in a sheet. "You weren't going to meet up with anyone?"

Maybe it was fortunate they'd met, then. He didn't like the idea of Minako running around by herself--it was dangerous even for someone as tough as Logan was.

"I'm sure!" Minako's mouth quirked with a laugh that she suppressed lest he think she was laughing at him, and she gave him an emphatic-looking nod. "I haven't met very many people here yet, or really seen much of the place. So it'd probably be a good thing if I stuck with people who knew their way around, right?"

Though why this mysterious Logan was taking so long, she didn't know. She could hear the sounds of people all around them, as groups met up and moved on from what appeared to be a popular spot for it, but their corner stayed pretty quiet. Maybe he was looking in the wrong spot? Did he know to look for someone who'd mummified himself with a bedsheet?

She reached out to ruffle Kurt's hair (again, not bothering to ask permission first since she was pretty sure he wouldn't give it) and grinned. "You know, my partner back home has fur most of the time. Though his is white, not blue." It couldn't hurt to talk about Artemis, could it? He wasn't here, after all, and his tendency to blurt things out in public always jeopardized his pretense of being an ordinary cat anyway.

Kurt smiled at her, close-lipped (fangs were for later, once she'd gotten used to the fur and legs and tail and... well, everything else). "Well, in that case, it'd be good if we stuck together! I'd rather not be alone and... you probably wouldn't want to be by yourself either, yeah?"

Of course past that, he didn't know what to say. Talking with Amanda had been easy--they were friends, after all. Minako still was on the edge of acquaintance-slash-friend, so he didn't know what he could say that wouldn't sound stupid.

Fortunately, Minako provided something to talk about while they waited (which, Kurt had to admit, was getting to be a bit of a wait...). He flailed and endured the hair ruffle, because he thought it would be rude to push her hand off. But he was a dude, guys didn't get their hair ruffled by girls their age!

"White fur?" Kurt asked, curious. "Is... your partner a mutant too?" The coincidence would be crazy, so Kurt didn't get his hopes up. Minako probably wasn't from a world with mutants in it but... white fur?

"I hear it's safer that way, so it's probably a good idea." Not that she'd run into anything herself, except... well, maybe that fake-Alfred person, or what Alfred had claimed was fake. Or the giant birds. But did the giant birds show up here, too, or just in fake versions of Tokyo? They couldn't fly in this hallway, at least. So... whatever that meant.

But Kurt seemed like a nice guy. He tolerated the hair-ruffling well, at least, which was a pretty good indication-- if he'd suddenly freaked out, well, it would've said something. She had to remind herself, though, that he wasn't Artemis and probably wouldn't take being petted quite so well, even if he hadn't obviously been kind of touchy about the whole fur thing.

"A mutant?" she asked, looking puzzled, as she moved to stand beside him. It didn't sound like a very polite kind of term to her, but maybe it was where he came from? Or not, if he was treated poorly for being one. "No, he's...."

And there she paused, considering. An alien from another planet would sound pretty crazy. Explaning her past would make her sound even crazier still. Best not to open any of those doors or else he might think she belonged here for real. "...he's, uh, kind of a cat and a person. At the same time," she finished, with a small shrug.

[identity profile] fuzzy-diablo.livejournal.com 2010-07-17 09:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh," Kurt said, eyebrows raising and ears pointing up slightly. "I have a friend who's a dog and a person," he said with a smile. "Though not at the same time. She kind of uh, switches. But she's not a werewolf or something like that, it's voluntary." The last thing Kurt wanted to do was portray mutants as monsters of some kind. Education, education, education.

"I'm euh... a mutant," Kurt explained. "I have a gene in my DNA that gives me abilities. And makes me look like this. But I'm a human, just like you."

He felt as though everyone who wasn't familiar with mutants and was going to be spending an extended amount of time with his fuzzy face needed this explanation. Somehow, Kurt found that he was comforted by the idea that his differences were caused by something natural instead of supernatural or unnatural. Maybe other people were too? Terry had taken the science in stride, and Kon hadn't much cared but he'd thought Kurt's furry side was cool right from the get-go. Which brought him to this roommate...

"It's kind of amazing, yeah, what DNA can do." He chuckled awkwardly. "Logan euh... sure is taking his time, I guess!"

[identity profile] ai-no-minako.livejournal.com 2010-07-18 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh! Yes, it's kind of like that." What an odd coincidence that Kurt had someone with a similar situation, though... not the same origin. How exactly DNA would make a human turn blue and furry or be able to switch between person-shaped and dog-shaped, Minako hadn't the slightest idea-- science class wasn't exactly her best subject, and she only had the vaguest idea of the whole genes and DNA business to begin with. Something with pea pods? Maybe?

She shrugged slightly and nodded, accepting the answer for what it was and not questioning further; it didn't really matter to her if he sprouted fur because of twisted helix pea plants or because he was from another planet, to be honest. "I think it's... kinda cute. Unique, you know?" Did she dare ask if it gave him any other side effects, too? He might not like it, given how uncomfortable he was about the whole thing. File that one away for later, or something.

"Guess so," she agreed, glancing up and down the hall. Other people, sure, but nobody that seemed to be heading directly for them. "D'you think he might still be at his room? Do you know his room number? We could go check...."

[identity profile] fuzzy-diablo.livejournal.com 2010-07-21 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
"Hmm..." Kurt frowned and tried to remember back to when he and Logan had first connected. They hadn't exchanged room numbers then. Kurt sure was awful about getting peoples' room numbers, wasn't he? And it always ended up being important--like with Kitty and now with Logan. What if he'd disappeared like Kitty had...?

"I don't know his room number, but maybe we can go down this hallway and look around?" Kurt suggested, aware of how totally lame he was being. "He can't be very far... Maybe he's on his way and got tied up or something."

[identity profile] ai-no-minako.livejournal.com 2010-07-21 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, sure!" Minako straightened up and bounced in place a little, eager to get moving. It there really was something dangerous in these hallways then sitting still for a long period of time was basically inviting one of them to come get a snack. And besides, she never was all that good at waiting; she'd much rather be off doing something.

She glanced at the nearest hallway and frowned a little, remembering the night before. That was where she'd run into the maybe-an-impostor-Alfred-- what if Kurt's friend had found something of the sort? Maybe he needed rescuing, too. That could be why he was so late, couldn't it? "This way, right? I'm sure we'll find him."

[identity profile] fuzzy-diablo.livejournal.com 2010-07-28 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, that way!" Kurt smiled, wrapping the sheet up around him again. He was glad Minako was so gung-ho about going with him to help find Logan. Kurt wouldn't want to do it by himself... plus there was also something totally rad about walking next to such a pretty girl. He kept that to himself, though.
