Day 50: Intercom, Evening

As expected, after the allotted amount of time had passed, the nurses started to move through the waiting rooms to inform the visitors that it was time for them to leave, whereas in the Sun Room King Kong was turned off and the staff quickly sprung to action to put the equipment away.

Meanwhile, the sound of intercom turning on cut into the hustle and bustle, but it was Lydia's voice which came through. "Mr. Landel is taking a quick nap," was all she said by way of explanation, as she seemed to be beyond making lengthy excuses for the man. "Nurses, once the visitors have said their goodbyes, escort the patients back to their rooms for dinner. Tonight there is steak and fries on the menu, with a slice of cheesecake for dessert and vegetarian options if requested.

"Enjoy your food and have a good sleep." Keeping it short, the intercom then turned off.

Snowman? Well, the nickname could've been worse, he guessed. Gadot probably would've gotten a big kick out of hearing someone call him that. He could practically hear the guy laughing his head off already. Not exactly a name that demanded respect, but he didn't really care if the guy used it. Snow just kept up the smile until Badou got to one particular detail.

"Huh? 'Unlock?' ...She locked the door?" He turned a newfound focus toward the door. He... hadn't even noticed. What the heck would she lock the door for? That was pretty strange, wasn't it? Especially if they were just going to unlock it again anyway. Maybe it was some weird hospital safety thing? Would've been nice if they gave him a heads up or something.

Snow actually wasn't sure what it was Badou was referring to when he said he'd "tell him what he knew" before the nurse came back. He was either talking about the locking the door thing or why Snow had been brought to the hospital in the first place. Either way, it's not like it was gonna do any harm to hear the guy out, even if the exchange was letting Badou smoke. Snow wasn't really keen on the whole "smoking" thing, but it wasn't like it was something he couldn't handle. As long as the guy didn't blow it in his face, Badou could do whatever he wanted. So Snow just waved an hand dismissively at the condition. "Sure. Go ahead."

"Yeah, we're trapped here." Badou replied, brushing past him to dig his smokes out of the closet. He would have explained regardless, not because he was a particularly nice guy, but because he figured anyone deserved a fighting chance against this place if they were willing to swallow that much shit all at once. That he got to smoke while he talked was just a particularly nice bonus.

"Gimmie a sec." It was maybe a little easier than it should have been for him to get a cigarette out of the pack and light up one handed, but he'd had a lot of practice with broken bones and badly scarred hands in the last couple of weeks. Once the sweet bitter taste of cigarette smoke had settled into his lungs, Badou exhaled and sat himself down on the edge of his bed for story time.

"Ok, so. You're in a crazy metal institute. During the day, things look legit, and all the staff think you're a crazy fucker who doesn't remember his own first name." He waved it off, mostly because visitor shifts had ended today. That wouldn't be a big deal until some time next week. "Once this shift is over, the door's gonna unlock, and nightshift starts. At night, the staff turn into monsters and roam the hallways looking for warm tender flesh. If you had any crazy abilities they're probably mostly gone, so you might want to buddy up pretty quick if you decide to go exploring... Unless, you know, you like being monster food. I don't judge." He shrugged, sucking more smoke into his lungs. To be honest, it wouldn't be the weirdest fetish he'd ever heard of.

"You can leave the institute and walk as far as you want, but it's dangerous and as far as we know there's no way out. No matter where you go you'll wake up here in the morning. With me so far? I know it sounds like bull."

Oh, Snow was with him. Yup, he was getting the picture loud and clear.

So this was a Sanctum facility after all! They were good at pulling two-faced operations like this, but this one took the cake. The staff were all l'Cie! And they were all set (somehow) to turn Cie'th as soon as the doors unlocked! He... didn't really know how that worked, but it made a lot of sense! I mean, why put soldiers through the risk of exterminating people when you could just throw l'Cie and survivors all into one building and let them all kill each other? Just wipe the whole lot out and keep your own hands clean, right? Those lousy, sons of--

He didn't really much get the whole "people think you're crazy" and "this is a mental hospital" thing. Probably part of the cover up. Outside. Dangerous. Monsters. Yadda, yadda, got it. Now the only question was how it was they managed to catch him and dump him in here with the rest of them. ...Actually, who gave a damn? He was already there, so it didn't matter.

"Yeah, I gotcha," he said, suddenly sounding far less jovial and more annoyed. "Nice little setup they got goin'. Good to see where all the government funding goes. ...So you guys've just been trapped in here all this time?"

Haven't found a way out yet, huh? Well that was gonna have to change starting tonight.

Well, he'd expected disbelief more than he expected a freakout, so having neither was sort of a pleasant surprise. It made him wonder what kind of world Snow came from. (Winter World?) He was starting to like the guy just a bit and that probably meant he was going to turn out to be a rabid (had he mentioned Norwegilicious?) sociopath with MPD. Mostly, Badou was ok with this.

He snorted, half-amused at his remark about the government. "I know, right? At least they keep us well-fed." He inclined his head towards the steak. Not that Snow looked like he needed more feeding. "Yeah, we've been here since we got here pretty much. If anyone's found a way out they're not sharin' or they're too brainwashed to worry about us anymore." Badou paused, raising an eyebrow. "What, you've got an escape plan already?"

Hmm. The way Badou was talking about this place almost made it sound like this had all been going on for a while. It couldn't have been that long though, right? The Sanctum hadn't actually started pulling crap like this until very recently, after all. There hadn't been a need. ...Right? Man, did Snow not want to think anything else was really the case. He already didn't know what to think of the Sanctum anymore. If he had to think that they all might have been doing stuff like this earlier without anyone knowing... Well, anyway. Bottom line was yes, and so nothing else really mattered.

"Escape plan?" Snow repeated, almost amused. Escape plan made it sound like this was some kind of complicated operation. All they had to do was bust out of here. Yeah, there'd probably be tons of guards outside and they were probably all armed to the teeth and they'd probably have bioweapon backup all over the place and there were apparently Cie'th to take care of on top of things and the people hanging around here probably weren't in the best mood and if they felt like nitpicking, they were maybe more likely to attack him than help in any way, BUT that wasn't hugely complicated.

...Sigh.

Well anyway, the details weren't worth lingering over. It wasn't a matter of "can" or "can't." He had to get them out of there. He needed to get back to the others as quickly as possible, and no way was he going to leave any of these people behind in this place. He would get them out. That's all there was to it. So he just grinned again, uncrossing his arms to place his hands on his hips. It made for an awesome pose. "Heh. Maybe. Plan is: Find the front door... and bust it open!"

Yes, he realized this didn't exactly sound like a great plan. That's cause it wasn't one.
