Nightshift 49: Room of Fire

[from here]

As the door shut behind her, Renamon finally added the details together. She should have sooner. As Taomon, using the elements had came naturally, and here came trials in the form of earth, air, water, and fire. Or rock, fog, ice, and lava, but she supposed that would even out in definition. This room was warm, quickly melting the frost that had formed on skin and clothes, soaking her through. And here....

This one was straightforward, not a maze like the last. With a lake of fire as well as fire streaming from the walls in intervals, the path was the moving platforms. Not something entirely trusted. It was possible that those were unable to hold weight, and would drop her into the lake without mercy. But it was the only path. And if they would hold, she could get across. It was a matter of timing, and being light-footed; both of which she was confident in. If they held. As a Digimon she could trust in herself to leap to one and leap back if it started to sink. But as a made human....

There wasn't a choice in the end. The door behind was locked, and Renamon would move forward. In there was something to be found in this place... She would find it. If it would bring her closer to Rika. Closer to freeing them both.

The Digimon took a careful moment, noting the platforms' movement and the threads of fire that shot out. She waited until she was entirely sure, as much as she could be, and then ran forward. The first platform held, but wavered, telling her balance as well would be entirely necessary. She leapt to the next one without delay, ducking under a stream of fire and pushing off to the next one in the same moment. The hair on the back of her neck stood on end, singeing almost completely. For some reason, the fire was more welcome than the water in the showers. Was it only because she held an affinity to it? Danced among fire as others did waves? She continued the process, jumping from one to the next, until she touched down on the other side. The sound of flames crackled behind her, and she took strength from that. Of all the rooms, this one was calming.

Instead of a door, there was a short hall, and Renamon walked towards it cautiously. Rising in the middle was a pedestal. The Digimon halted before it, eyes sliding to the corners of the hall warily. If it was a trap, it was a good one. She took the few feet forward, reaching to the item placed on top. Her hand closed around it and she pulled it back, pausing momentarily. Nothing happened. And here was... a decorative sword? With the rest of the room, this made no sense as well, but she kept it. There might be some point, of some sort, that she was missing. Or it could be just another game.

Renamon pressed a hand to her thigh, feeling wet warmth. What a way to start the night. Hopefully, at least, this door wouldn't lead her to another room of trials. She was hesitate if there was a room of spirits.
