Dayshift 49: Bus 2

Morning hit without warning, with the sheer knowledge hitting the Digimon before anything else that today they were going back to Doyletown. Her feet hit the floor and she rotated her right shoulder experimentally. The skin stretched tight, soreness persevering, but it moved fine. She stretched her fingers then curled them into a fist, staring at the tanned skin that was her right arm. If something happened this time... She would be more useful. Her mind replayed the events of last week, and Renamon stilled, considering.

There wasn't much time left to her as the nurse bustled in with an armful of clothes, the same shade as the weeks before. The woman murmured a cheery complaint that it was too cold for skirts and left Renamon to change. The pants were preferable to the past two weeks, though the other item she was left with gave too much to irony. She frowned at it for a minute, then slid it over her head, reflecting that this motion in days or weeks past would have left her shuddering. It meant she was becoming used to this human body, and that was nothing that boded well. She grabbed her notebook before being led to a bus, and slid into a seat halfway down the aisle, pressing against the window. Again, the previous night had been more than short. Was it just her, or was there something more to it?

[for Haseo!]

Kairi smiled towards Sora for a moment before giving him a knowing look. "Just don't get into trouble, please. I don't want to have to come and break you out of jail." Though the thought made her laugh. The tables would surely turn if that were to ever happen!

Glancing out the window, she could see that they were beginning to stop. Time to get out. Turning towards Sora once again at his words, she nodded her head, her expression becoming serious. "Dangerous?" she repeated, her frown only deepening. She always had a feeling that somehow the town would become deadly, and it appears that she had missed when it actually did.

She supposed that was a good thing ... for Sora. He didn't have to worry about her that way.

However, the thought made Kairi feel sick herself. What had happened?

"You'll have to tell me about it later," Standing up once it appeared as though the patients were being led off, Kairi turned towards Sora with a smile. "Don't worry about me, I'll be fine. You be careful too, okay? Promise."
lighthearted: gesture, smile, down (unsure)

"I won't!" Sora quickly protested when Kairi gave him a warning. Besides, who was going to put him in jail here? There was that sheriff's office in town, but Sora didn't think they actually locked up patients there. It was there to make them feel safe, right? Too bad it didn't do a very good job...

The bus ride had felt too short, but that always happened when he was with his friends; time just flew. It sounded like Kairi wanted to go off on her own, too. Sora wasn't sure how to tell her he wouldn't mind spending the day with her without sounding weird, and so he just stood from his seat and nodded.

"I promise," he agreed. If they hadn't been in a crowded bus, he might have placed hand on her shoulder or something, but it just didn't seem like a good time for that.

Before he could say anything else, though, the nurses started to urge them off of the buses, and Sora gave Kairi a final wave before heading off into the town.
