Nightshift 47: West Wing, North Hallway 1-B

[from here]

The next hallway looked only marginally different from the first. Boy, it was easy to get all mixed up in this goofy hospital! And Naruto hadn't seen a single med-nin come along to try and convince him to get back to bed and rest. It wasn't that he was complaining or anything, but wasn't that weird? Where the hell were the med-nin, anyway? You'd think that in the middle of the night after a ton of people got hurt, they'd all be busy...

Oh. Well, okay. They were all busy with people who were actually hurt! That made the most sense, and Naruto accepted that and pressed on.

Still, something was bugging him. Something was seriously screwed up about this whole thing, but he couldn't figure out what the "something" was. Maybe he was imagining it, but he really didn't think he was.

Now where was the exit?

For a place that did its best to keep people from knowing what was happening at any given period in time, the halls seemed to be fairly active around this hour. It was funny to Riku, because he was used to these games. Comparing Landel's to Castle Oblivion wasn't a completely apt comparison, but it was the closest he could come up with. Other substitutes didn't seem to provide the same opening for understanding. That didn't mean he was completely prepared for what he learned here, but then again, finding Sora's memories unchained and rechained again had about the same effect.

Since he knew he had longer strides than his friends, after he stepped inside and took note of the other occupants, he paused to turn back toward them. This was hitting unfamiliar territory, anyway. As much as he wanted to press on forward, lighting that familiar need to lead, push, and keep things under control—though he rarely held on to it anymore—he needed to look toward his friends to help him now.

Kairi walked past Riku when he turned around to wait, not afraid to lead the boys to the outside field. She had been there plenty of times before (and had even jumped the wall!) so she knew what she was doing. Her time spent asleep surprisingly held no change over her memory even when it was dark, so she was at least thankful for that.

"Just out past here," Kairi said to no one in particular, whether Sora or Riku listen or not.

Clicking off her flashlight and shoving it in her pocket, she pushed against the door slowly, pausing to listen outside for a moment before continuing to open the door and walking to the outside field.
