Day 47: Recreational Field [Fourth Shift]

Ema let the nurse lead her through the facility and out into the recreational field. She wished the nurse hadn't have taken the journal out of her hands to be left in the room--there was quite a bit to take in and Ema's hands were itching to record every little detail. If she was, in fact, kidnapped in order to prevent Lana from being proven innocent, then she was going to have to pass along everything she possibly could to Mr. Wright the instant she managed to get free.

However, that hypothesis was starting to fall apart, as much as Ema wasn't quite ready to let it go. The nurse had called her "Marie," for starters, and it was becoming increasingly obvious that Ema was not the only prisoner. This was a rather large facility, and there were several cells (dormitories?) that lined even the halls the nurse led her through. And then there was that comment that her family had admitted her. That made the least sense of all; Lana couldn't have done this to her to get her out of the way of the trial.

Could she? Lana was really well-connected; it wasn't likely, but it was possible. The thought made Ema a bit sick to her stomach. The two of them didn't get along these days, sure, but to have her kidnapped and locked up somewhere? That was just cruel. Her sister was not cruel. She hoped.

Maybe it was better that Ema didn't have her notebook. She was too lost in her own thoughts to really take in her surroundings. Before she knew it, the nurse opened the door to the recreational field, smiled down at her, and told her to go have fun. Wearing the same smile, she gave a warning not to try running off--there were people watching, and this place was for her own good. There went that idea.

New plan: talk to other prisoners (patients?) and see what the heck was going on. Ema strode past the nurse and into the field, hoping that she wasn't going to be forced to actually do anything physical while outside. Sports were not her thing, and that was the last thing she wanted to be put through after the day she'd had so far.

"Who can say? He seemed nice enough, but you know what they say about books and covers and judging," said the youkai whimsically. "I didn't sense any ill intent from him, but that might just mean he's good at hiding it."

Now that she thought about it, everyone was awful trusting of others it seemed. Well, personally, Yukari hardly cared if someone had ulterior motives. She would take it as it came. But she hadn't really seriously considered the idea that this Michelangelo might be a threat to her. Well, something to think about when they met tonight.

"I doubt there's anything to worry about though," she concluded. There was no point in fretting over paranoid what-ifs that could be applied to everyone they met here. Life, for humans anyway, was far too short to waste with such worries.

Sheena was a worrier and that wasn't going to go away anytime soon, but she would trust that Yukari would be fine if she said she was. After all, they all had a common goal of getting out of the evil ranch, so surely this Michaelangelo guy wasn't going to do anything to the youkai. Right?

"Okay." The ninja tilted her head a bit. "So, did I succeed?"

Yukari likewise tilted her head, giving the girl a curious smile.

"Succeed at what now?" she asked. Another non sequitur and Yukari really had no idea where this one had come from. And of course, if she couldn't remember it off the top of her head, it probably wasn't important enough to rack her brains over rather than just ask. Hopefully Sheena wouldn't be offended.

The ninja gave a bit of a chuckle. "Warm, entertained, happy," she replied. "Just curious..."

Sheena had kind of tried. Well, she supposed she never really had to try to keep Yukari entertained. It seemed her very presence tended to do that given how easy a target for teasing she was. But... she hoped her youkai was at least happy. She liked it when Yukari was happy.

She had said something like that, hadn't she? It had been a fairly whimsical request, so Yukari hadn't taken it very seriously and had forgotten it. Then again, that could just be because the time had passed so pleasantly that she had forgotten about it and the forced exile to the outdoors that had inspired it.

"Oh, I would say you've done well," granted the youkai with a smile. "Warm, entertained... and most certainly happy." She gave the ninja a mischievous grin. "Would you like a reward?"

The look in her eyes left no doubt that it would be something Sheena would like, but possibly not like in public. Which, of course, would just make it more fun for Yukari.

The look in Yukari's eyes brought a flush to the ninja's cheeks, and Sheena cast a quick look around. There were a lot of people out in the field, more if the staff was included. Still, they all did seem pretty occupied. Maybe she could just allow whatever the youkai was using as a reward. She did kind of kiss Yukari in the middle of the Sun Room when the youkai was 'Violet'. She couldn't get much more public than that, even if it had been driven by irrational emotion that overrode the ninja's sensibilities.

But still... "Umm... who wouldn't turn down a reward? But... could you... maybe give me it... later? You know..." She gave a vague gesture.

Yukari chuckled darkly as she considered the possibilities. Just how much did she feel like teasing Sheena? On the one hand, the girl had admirably fulfilled her demands to be kept warm, entertained and happy, but on the other, this would make the youkai warm, entertained and happy as well. Decisions, decisions.

The ringing of the intercom and the head doctor's announcement set that boundary for her and she found herself on one side of the issue quite firmly. Well, that was no fun, but sometimes life intruded like that.

"Well, I'll be sure to remember it," she said, brushing a finger along the ninja's cheek before getting to her feet. With the hand still holding the ninja's uninjured one, she pulled the girl up as well so she wouldn't have to lean on her injury, even though Sheena was probably more than capably of getting up without the help. It was just an excuse to keep that contact this much longer. "And return it with interest."

...the youkai was evil. Pure evil with that chuckle and the touching and the.... stuff.

Sheena's eyes half-closed at the brief caress and she almost didn't respond in time to get to her feet without tripping and making a huge embarrassing scene. That would have been really bad. As it was, the ninja stood fairly close to Yukari and swallowed.

"Umm... yeah. Okay. You, uh... yeah." Wherever did Sheena's command of speech go? With interest? What exactly did the youkai mean by that? Maybe she didn't want to know. Some surprises were good. Sometimes.

"B-be careful tonight, okay?"

Ah, this was why Yukari liked sticking around this girl. There was a - not quite sadistic, but - certain kind of joy to be had in reducing what was normally a strong, feisty ninja to a blushing, stuttering young girl. She tried not to smile too evilly, hiding it behind a look of well-wishing and care.

"You too," she said warmly, finally letting go of her hand as their nurses came over. Turning towards them, she waved cheerily to them.

Well, tomorrow night would certainly be something to look forwards to. As long as she survived this one, of course.
