Night 46: Greenhouse Yard

[from here]

Now they were outside, and the level of possible danger had risen. Making a run for the greenhouse could attract more attention than trying to make their way by stealth, what with their dampened abilities. Sai drew his machete and kept it low, knowing that any larger enemies wouldn't find it much of a threat. It would be useful if they were found by giant rats again, perhaps.

He motioned for Shikamaru to keep close. Luckily, the greenhouse wasn't far and they should be able to reach it quickly. Once they'd collected the metal, night coming to a close wouldn't be a problem. One simply never knew when that was going to happen.

Again, it wasn't far to the greenhouse door, but unfortunately, this door was locked. He only briefly considered the idiocy of locking a door to a building made of glass, then slammed the door open with his shoulder and stepped into the greenhouse.

From the bulletin reports, Shikamaru gathered that most outdoor threats came from above: bats, dragonflies, giant virgin-eating people-birds, etc etc etc. As such, he listened for the sound of wings against air, but since they only had a short distance to cross, he wasn't deeply concerned. Far more threatening were the hallways ahead, and he briefly wondered if they should have stayed in the shed rather than attempted another crossing of the institute. It was a bad plan, though, to stick around in a place with only one door. Especially when that door opened inward.
