Nightshift 22: 2nd floor, top of stairs by the medical reference library
(from here)
"I'll take your word for it," Jack said. "All I ate was the cake." And as cake went, it had been pretty good, he had to admit.
And then they were at the top of the stairs. He hugged the inside wall for a moment, before slowly easing out into the new hallway, listening for anything untoward.
So far, so good.
"Looks like we have three choices," he said quietly over his shoulder. "Left, right, or straight."

He hesitated for a moment, but there was no guarantee that they'd have any better luck if they switched to another hall. They might as well finish checking this one out first.
Keeping his steps even - and ready to flee back to the proven safety of the library if something else reared its ugly head - he started up the hall.

He kept his voice low, "Looks like we're not th' only visitors sneakin' about. Maybe there's somethin' up here worth findin' afterall."

"Huh." He shut the door, just as quietly. "I guess even the prison guards have to pee some time."

It was annoying to progress so slowly only to find a bunch of useless books and a bathroom. At least he was getting used to the area. Gin made a mental note of the layout thus far. If nothing else, he was certainly good at remembering information in a pinch.

Down the hall a few more steps, and another door. He had a guess about this one, and it proved right. Another bathroom. "Isn't this exciting..." he murmured.
There were no more doors on the sides of the hallway. But at the end, there was one. He opened it with caution, to reveal... a patio.
At least it was a nice night out.
