DAY 45: Sun Room (Second Shift)

There was something fishy going on in the Institute today. All over the bulletin board, people were talking about having "woken up", having been "cured"... and it seemed as though ZEX was one of them. Tanaka wouldn't have recognized the note at all if it hadn't been signed - his wording, his handwriting, even his name had changed - and a part of him still wondered if it had been an imposter, trying to pull the wool over the Captain's allies.

But it'd be easy enough to find out the truth. Whoever it was had agreed to meet him, and Tanaka was waiting for him just outside the cafeteria doors, ready to catch him as he came from breakfast. If "Max" was an imposter, then he'd discover the identity of a hidden enemy. And if he was really ZEX...

...well, he'd have a whole new set of things to worry about.

"Yes, or I believe it is... cheer is just about the only thing that cannot be taken away, you see."

Brook didn't ask to have a seat with the person, but it was a little ruder to just stand there, towering over him as he usually did others. "Did you have a rough night to be so tired?"

To Brook's little declaration, he simply nodded, deciding it easier to agree than try to argue with the cheerful man. When asked about his night, he opted not to mention the ticking man or the wounds he'd gotten. It was possible, after all, that it was all in his head, just like everything else seemed to be.

"Oh, just been a little under the weather," he smiled right back, "so I didn't sleep so well. How about you?"

"Hmmm... is that so? Sorry to hear that..." Brook had thought the man looked particularly pale, although there were a number of strangely pale individuals in the place. And Brook was the last person who could judge a person based on how skinny they were!

Oh and now he was asking about him? Well, at least that meant they were having a conversation! "I stayed in the night, writing out some songs in my journal. Yohohoho. It's good to just take it slow from time to time, I think."

He shrugged off Brook's concern, the smile never leaving his face. It was a nice thought, he supposed. There was a soft noise of fabric shifting as he sat up, still leaning far back in his seat.

"You write songs? Hm, that must be fun. I imagine it helps you stay so cheerful to take things slowly once in a while. What do you like to write about?"
