Nightshift 22: F1-10 Hall

The Head Doctor's announcement cut Raven and Naminé's discussion short. Although she did not have a visitor, the words of the insane doctor chilled Naminé's spine. She looked visibly bothered by them, but... well, she'd have to think about that later on, she guessed. There was no time left for speculating now.

"It's time. I'll take you to the second floor, if you'd like," Naminé offered, getting up off of the bed and gathering the things left in her dresser drawer. Flashlight and radio. Sure enough, Mr. Radio had an accompanying announcement to go with the Head Doctor's, but his words, as always, flew right over her head.

"Last time I went down the hall, there were monsters... let's try to move quickly," The witch warned her companion as she opened the door and started down the hall, checking to see if Raven was following. Naminé wasn't much of a leader, but she had lead others out of danger before. Hopefully she could do that now.

Raven wasn't quite sure of what to think about the “Head Doctor's” words. He sounded like someone who was trying way too hard to be scary and foreboding. Then there was the man on the radio… Did he always talk without actually being helpful?

In any case, the much talked about Nightshift had arrived at last. For whatever reason, the doors to their rooms were unlocked and if she was to believe Naminé, they were all free to do whatever they pleased, like finding a way out.

Looking around her side of the room, Raven found a flashlight of her own. She wasn’t afraid of the dark, but that didn’t mean she actually wanted to wander around without being able to see in front of her.

With the flashlight in hand, Raven followed the blonde girl through the hall without any complaints.

She had questions though, such as…

“Does this always happen at night?”

[identity profile] notearthlogic.livejournal.com 2007-03-13 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Haruhi had no clue what was going on. She had hardly had the time to inspect the room before some guy came up on the intercom. That first broadcast was normal enough, but when the second came on, Haruhi knew something was wrong. Gloriously, wonderfully wrong! Haruhi listened intently to the announcement, although she wasn't sure what that guy was talking about. She didn't linger on this for long, as she heard the click of the lock.

She was about to venture out when she heard static coming from the desk drawer. The radio was even more enigmatic than that other man. She took the radio in any case, along with the flashlight. This event sounded mysterious, and Haruhi Suzumiya wasn't about to stay behind!

She crept to the door, taking a passing glance at the other bed. There was a lump in it, but Haruhi ignored this and ventured out into the hall.

Haruhi had to admit, she was a bit disappointed. That announcement had made it sound like she would find something going on in the hall. So far, nothing. Wait, what was that?

Haruhi wasn't quite sure what they were at first, so she quickly flicked on her flashlight and moved down the hall towards them. "Who are you?" she asked, angling the flashlight up to spread eerie light and shadows across her face. Then she asked what was the more important of the two questions. "What's going on?"

[identity profile] afraidnot.livejournal.com 2007-03-13 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"The building changes..." Alright, sure, she could deal with that no problem. At least she knew for certain that this freedom would come every night. Now if only something could be done about the supposed monsters...

Raven's trail of thought, however, was interrupted by the arrival of someone who was having way too much with their own flashlight.

"Patients who were obviously living a false life.” She remarked sarcastically. “Why else would we be here?"

Tifa hated to leave Kaylee, since she was still feeling low, but she had a prior commitment. Her roommate helpfully pointed out there was a flashlight hidden beneath her pillow, which Tifa stuffed in her pocket, along with a few pens she'd found in her drawer.

Leaving her room and scanning the hall (which was hard in the dark), she managed to make out the forms of three other girls in the hallway - they all had flashlights as well. Seeing how she still only a vague idea about the layout, she figured she might as well as for directions.

"Excuse me," she said, "Would any of you know how to get to M20?"

[identity profile] notearthlogic.livejournal.com 2007-03-13 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"False life? That's the reason I'm being called 'Regina,' you mean." Haruhi wrinkled her nose in disgust. The more Haruhi thought about it, the more awful the name became. "My name's Haruhi Suzumiya!" she said, determined to set things straight.

She nodded as the other girl introduced the two girls. Not that their names really mattered much to Haruhi, but she knew she should be somewhat polite if she wanted information.

"I just woke up her a little while ago," Haruhi said, thinking it over, "Then that crazy guy came on the intercom." It was the girl's last statement that had Haruhi curious. "Why's it dangerous?" Haruhi grinned a bit. This was what she was looking for.

Haruhi didn't know how to answer the newcomer's question, so she decided to ignore her at present. The other girls seemed to know a bit more than she did, so they would probably be able to help.

[identity profile] afraidnot.livejournal.com 2007-03-13 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
“At least you didn't get stuck with Rachel.”

Haruhi Suzumiya... It distinctly sounded like an Asian name. Japanese, most likely.

She then noticed that yet another person joined their ever-growing group. A girl, just like before, but this one appeared to be older than the rest of them. Raven didn’t know where M20 was, but she told her the next best thing.

“She's the only veteran here.” The empath said, making a gesture to Naminé. “Maybe she knows.”

When Rukia heard the message over the intercom - and more importantly, the click of the lock on her door - she stood, leaving the remains of her dinner. Thinking for a moment, she closed her notebook and stuck it into the back of her pants. Hopefully the waistband would hold it in place. Then she grabbed a pen and the flashlight. When the radio suddenly came on, surprising her, she decided to leave that. It wouldn't be wise to bring it if it was going to turn on at potentially inopportune times.

She went to the door, opened it, and peered into the hallway. There was a group of people with flashlights, but otherwise the area was dark and - she hated to admit it - very creepy. Like those horror comics she used to read when she was staying with Ichigo. Suppressing her worry, Rukia turned back to her roommate.

"I'm going to meet some people outside of F15. What about you?"

[ From here. ]

After entering the female block, Sora made his way down the hall the same way he would to get to his own room and then took the last right, stopping in front of F7.

Surprisingly enough, the door was open and someone was standing there. Someone who was not Kairi. Sora's first instinct was to be suspicious, but it didn't take long for something to occur to him. This must be...!

"Hello! Are you Kairi's new roommate?" he asked with a smile. Now that he got a better look, she looked like a pretty nice girl. He hoped that was true, since it would be upsetting if Kairi was with someone meanspirited. Then again, Kairi was the type of person who could get along with anyone. "Sorry, I'm Sora. I'm here to see here," he explained, realizing it would seem rather strange if he came up and asked that question randomly.

[identity profile] haiiro-no-chou.livejournal.com 2007-03-14 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
As soon as Rukia finished speaking, she heard a voice behind her. She squawked, spinning around and going for her absent zanpakutou. There was a skinny boy with spiky brown hair standing in the hallway, introducing himself. Stop freaking out; he's not some monster creeping up on you in the dark, Rukia told herself.

"Uh, hello," Rukia managed after a moment. "Yes, we're roomma-" she blinked, "Sora? Are you friends with Renji?"
lighthearted: gesture, smile, down (shocked)

[personal profile] lighthearted 2007-03-14 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
Sora's intention hadn't been to scare the girl, so when she yelled he was jerked into shock as well. He let out a yell in response to the girl's, even taking a step back.

It wasn't that he was scared. That had just been startling, and everyone was on edge at night.

"Huh?" Sora hadn't been ready for a question like that. "Yeah! Yeah, I am. I was actually planning to meet him after I got Kairi," he said with a smile. Was this girl a friend of Renji's, too? He wondered what the redhead had been saying about him...

[identity profile] haiiro-no-chou.livejournal.com 2007-03-14 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, good," Rukia said to the boy - Sora. "I'm going to meet Renji as well." Then, remembering to at least show a semblance of civility, Rukia introduced herself. "My name is Rukia." Another bow, more of a nod. Formality didn't seem to be a concern in this place.

Rukia angled so that she could see both of them when Kairi came out into the hallway. Well, they were all apparently going to the same place, and she was anxious to talk to Renji and Ichigo about a few things. "Shall we then?"

It was never a good idea to linger in the halls of the hospital. The creatures were out early tonight, it seemed, and in droves. And they were agitated. A pair of cats, all matted-fur and rotting flesh, came slinking down the female's hallway, eyes glinting in the near darkness. Their heavy feet hit the floor with loud slaps, their decaying tails twitched out behind them. Housecats these were not.

As they drew closer to the small grou, they yowled their hunting call, hungry for flesh.

It had taken longer than anticipated, but with some struggle, Envy made it to the F block without any major confrontation. There were patients around, talking to eachother, visible only by what their flashlights revealed. In spite of what they were talking about, the whole thing seemed bizarrely normal, just with groups of women crowded together and talking.

He avoided them as best as he could and found the first door. F1, that was it. Why on earth did Lust have to be in the furthest room in the furthest block?

He knocked at her door, and none too concerned with social propriety, opened the door. On the off chance that this was one of the other patients who hated him, faking Lust's identity and waiting for an ambush, he could at least get in before expectation.

Miku had left the room as soon as the door had unlocked. Her roommate was a striking, lovely woman, but had ignored her like the young woman was a sack of potatoes.

She chose not to press her, scribbled out a map and left it on her desk for her roommate, taking the journal, the flashlight and the little weird radio with her. It was time to investigate. Lots of other women and younger girls were shuffling into the hall, sticking in clumps, and Miku watched Naminé and some others turn the corner down the hall.

The flashlight was a comforting, familiar weight in her hand, like an old friend. Miku decided she would head to the middle of the complex, to a place that was on the map, but didn't go much beyond that, and what Ashton had added.

The Medical File Room. Sure, Namine had drawn a skull and cross bones on it, but it couldn't be too bad, right?

...Right?

[identity profile] digi-renamon.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Renamon stepped out onto the hallway. Again, like the previous night, she felt the weight of Junior's book in one hand and the thin shards of boy-band CD between the fingers of the other.

Where was Junior, though? The best idea would've been to find his room, deposit the book there, and, if not meet him there outright, then catch up with him... wherever he was. Oh, finding him wouldn't be the problem, he wouldn't be the first redhead she had had to track down, but would anything slow her down on the way? Well, it was all a matter of finding out.

Envy barely made a few steps out of Lust's room without hitting the floor. He pushed himself up by one arm, holding his middle with the other, to no avail as a painful spasm wrenched at his gut where Scar had kicked him. He doubled over, vomiting on the hall floor right there, throat stinging, eyes watering. He choked, edging away from the mess, wiping at his mouth in disgust, and leaned against the wall. The puddle was a bit of morbid fascination, and ultimately, horror. No crimson stones scattered in there as evidence of what he was; just digested breakfast meat, potatoes and chocolate cake. Another putrid bit of evidence to his humanity.

'Shit!' He wasn't sure if he even said it out loud. Breathing heavily, eyes still stinging, arm still bleeding, the hall was dark and he was alone.

"Shit!" He repeated again, this time audibly, spitting the words through his burned throat, unused to aggravated pain, injury, weakness, "Not again! Not again!"

He was abandoned. He was hurt; had a blow to the stomach that did God-knows-what to his insides, a bite wound all the way down his arm that would be infected and disgustingly swollen sooner than later- human bites could kill through infection alone- and on top of it, his mind in complete disarray. And nobody was going to come to his aid. It was his fault.

It was centuries since he had last felt it, and yet the memories were surging anew. He could remember exactly how it had looked. Dark, a doorway streaming with light, an outstretched hand and words that bubbled in his chest but failed to emerge.

('Father, wait!')

He hurt like hell all over. Just wanted to lie down...

The institute had been surprisingly quick to break him. But it wouldn't be the last time. Or the worst.

Lyta was making her way to the main part of the hospital, ignoring mostly everything that went on around her as usual. At least she'd grown accustomed to the constant buzz of thoughts around her, and the swell of strong emotion.

Sometimes, despite her best efforts at shielding, things leaked through so strongly that she couldn't ignore them.

Like now.

The pure, disorganized mix of physical pain and raging emotion hit Lyta like a blow to the head. She staggered some under the weight of it, her head exploding in a fiery mix of things she couldn't even begin to sort out.

Wasn't this just great?

At least the source of the mental onslaught wasn't too far away. And wasn't looking too good, either. She could just walk on by - she didn't have any reason to help random strangers, after all - but the sheer power of that emotional wave....

She was too damn soft.

"You need some medical aide," she said, not bothering with introductions or needless chatter. And what was that stench.... oh. Cleanup, aisle F. What the hell had happened to this guy?

[identity profile] hidden-queen.livejournal.com 2007-03-16 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Was that...?

Padme rose and - somewhat hesitantly - crossed the room and pushed at the door.

It swung open. She froze.

This didn't make any sense. "Asylum" or prison, there wasn't any logic behind this move: opening the doors was too risky either way. Still, it'd be foolish not to make use of it. Padme turned back, rumaging through the desk and coming up with the primitive glow-rod, and flicked it on. The beam was more concentrated than what she was used to, but she'd just have to make it work.

Glow-rod in hand, the Queen stepped outside... and was greeted with the sound of something splattering - a heavy liquid - againt the floor. She swung the light towards the source. There was a young prisoner half-sprawled across the floor, body tense with pain. Nearby was a woman.

Against her better judgement, the Queen drew close, and knelt. She did her best to ignore the smell of vomit, pushing the answering reaction to it down.

"What happened?"

[identity profile] outtokillhim.livejournal.com 2007-03-16 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
Well that was just too great... And he'd just been getting to the Dante part of those flashbacks he was trying to supress. How convenient to have a full reenaction.

"No kidding..." He sneered, unable to lower the default gaurd of bitter sarcasm even in his state. He didn't know who she was or why she was approaching him- Not a nurse; she had on the same uniform. She didn't seem like a monster, but then again, neither did he most of the time. As soon as she spoke with the implicit offer, he started trying to make excuses as for why he didn't need help; he was just stunned, probably not too bad, unless something ruptured or broke, but he didn't-

He winced as he tried to move his arm. It was probably just a bruise from his elbow impacting the floor, nothing broken, but it still hurt to move it, opposite his bitten arm which if he was lucky wouldn't swell up and need to be amputated. He'd seen it happen. He shuddered at the thought of being rendered invalid, on top of all things. God, he'd been really stupid.

Question was, would it be more stupid to stoop to taking the stranger's help when he was capable of telling her to fuck off, or to sit and die alone in the dark feeling sorry for himself.

Try living a little longer, then decide.

"And I don't suppose you know anything about that?"

More footsteps came and another figure appeared with her light shining towards them. He winced. He'd forgotten to take into account all the other patients.

At least they weren't monsters.

He cringed internally. Maybe monsters would have been easier to face with his shredded pride. Especially seeing that the second one approaching him was little more than a child.

[identity profile] ontheabyss.livejournal.com 2007-03-16 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Lyta just rolled her eyes. But she didn't seem too put off by his snide tone. She approached him, not kneeling as the girl had, but eying the wound in his arm with a critical look. What the hell kind of monster had done that?

"I know enough," she said. "But I don't exactly have anything to treat you with on me. Think you can manage to get yourself mobile? Your legs look fine." If his legs were alright, he could walk. And if he could walk, they could get him somewhere where maybe they could do something. This was a hospital. There would be hospital things lying around. Sterilized things, at least.

She thought for a moment. "Do you know to wrap up a wound?" she asked the girl who was kneeling next to the kid. It would probably be a good idea to stop the bleeding...

How the hell did she get herself into these things?

Oh yeah, because of last night. Watching one of the two people you actually liked die tended to have a softening effect.

[identity profile] hidden-queen.livejournal.com 2007-03-16 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
Padme studied the wound. It was a nasty one, especially considering that most of the wounds she'd seen had been due to blaster burns. But she'd seen the results of a thermal detonation explosion before, and it was enough to prepare her for the sight.

"Yes, but we'd have to clean the wound first," she answered.

If he'd been bitten by any of the local wildlife - how they actually got in the building was another story entirely - then there wasn't much she could do. The native creatures could easily have bacteria in the saliva. The Queen could think of several ones on Naboo who did: it was part of the handmaiden training, although there'd never been much chance to make use of the knowledge. But this wasn't Naboo.

The vomiting was especially worrying.

Padme tried to catch the boy's eyes. "What did this to you? Was it an animal?"
