Day 45: Breakfast

Mori woke with a start. He lay on the bed for a moment, staring up at the ceiling and sighed quietly. Another day, another round of shifts and people and-- Wait a minute. Breathing in carefully, Mori's brow knit together as he realized that his ribs were no longer broken. After testing his collarbone, he found that it, too, was healing faster than it should have. Not that he was complaining, but there was something odd about broken bones setting so quickly. Pushing himself up out of bed, the teen shook his head, knowing that he'd have another day or two of the sling and then he'd be free from it.

But more important than that was finding out how Mitsukuni was doing. The last thing he remembered was the bathroom and gathering metal. Since they were together at the end of the night, Mori was certain that Mitsukuni would be fine, but...well, he still liked to confirm such things with his own eyes. With the twins gone and Tamaki still missing, Mori didn't want to take any chances anymore. Especially not with the strange announcements this morning.

As usual, his nurse came to collect him and helped him into his sling. Then he followed her quietly into the cafeteria, taking notice of the unusually empty bulletin board. They really were cracking down on it already. Weird. Even weirder? For once, he was the first into the room. Picking up a tray, he pointed out what he wanted, making sure to take double of the pancakes (asking to keep them away from the sausages for now), double of the strawberry jam and biscuits, and an extra helping of fruit. To top it off? Milk. It'd help his bones mend. Hopefully.

Going to a nearby seat, Mori took a look around the empty room and shivered. Kind of eerie in here without anyone else but the nurses. Someone was certain to come sooner or later though, right? He hoped so at least.

'Stronger' and 'fantasy' were loaded words for Airi, and she bit the inside of her lip while she listened. "Sounds rough," she said with a mostly flat tone of voice, desperately trying to conceal exactly how much she could sympathize with the first half of Yomi's story.

Airi nearly latched on 'school' to divert the topic, but remembered Mele wouldn't have—

"I knew a guy who lied a lot," Mele said, spinning her fork between her fingers and lightly stabbing at her food, "He could make people believe in anything. Biding his time, making our lives hell." The fork went down heavily on the last word, and she forced herself to put the fork down. Mele really hated Long, that conniving— She shook her head to clear the negativity.

Yomi winced at that. There was a girl at the school that had been like that, a blonde with her three brunette cronies. She couldn't remember their names, but she knew they were underclassmen and that they seemed to be the source of the most vicious rumours. She couldn't even remember what it was she had done to offend them. Maybe it had just been the fact that her newfound tomboy streak was making her more popular. Maybe it was something she'd done as Utena and blanked out. Regardless, Yomi could empathize with Mele about liars.

That was the more obvious kind of lying, however. Turning the story over in her mind, she wondered if maybe it applied to Antony in any way. He hadn't tried to make her life a hell, but he certainly had put the last straw on making a mess of her mind. Also, he did have a way of persuading people to see his point of view in a way that was almost uncanny.

Even as she thought that, however, she felt a pang of guilt over it. Thinking of Antony as a liar or manipulator seemed like an insult to him, a man who by all intents and deeds was a perfect sibling and a good friend. Didn't he have a fiancé, as well? Yomi had rarely met the girl, but when she had, the pair had been very good to each other.

Can't think about this right now.

"That sounds awful. I know exactly the kind of person you mean," she answered, hoping she hadn't seemed too dazed at all. "Did you get him back for it at all?"

"Yep," Mele replied as she leaned her elbows on the table. "We—" Uh, maybe saying 'killed' wasn't a good idea, "...got rid of him." He came back, though, but Yomi's question hadn't been related to Long's defeat at all. Beating the crap out of him (even if she hadn't actually seen it—she'd been in SaiDaiGekiRinTohja, at least, when they'd defeated his giant form) counted as 'getting him back,' didn't it?

Mele noticed the long pause, though. ...Should they be talking about this? Well, if Yomi was uncomfortable with it, she shouldn't have brought it up.

Still, Mele didn't want to talk about it, either. Abruptly changing the subject, she asked, "Have you seen any doctors around at all? This is supposed to be an asy—an institute, right?"

"The doctors are usually in their offices, I think," Yomi answered, though she wasn't completely sure, given that she had yet to get a session with a doctor herself yet. "Who knows where they are today, though, if therapy is postponed. Or why it's even postponed, for that matter," she added with a shrug, doing somewhat better now at keeping her expression normal. Just as well, because for the first time since arriving at the institute, Yomi really did want to see a doctor. The next time a nurse came to fetch her, she thought, she would make it known that she wanted a session as soon as one could be made available for her.
