Day 45: Breakfast

Mori woke with a start. He lay on the bed for a moment, staring up at the ceiling and sighed quietly. Another day, another round of shifts and people and-- Wait a minute. Breathing in carefully, Mori's brow knit together as he realized that his ribs were no longer broken. After testing his collarbone, he found that it, too, was healing faster than it should have. Not that he was complaining, but there was something odd about broken bones setting so quickly. Pushing himself up out of bed, the teen shook his head, knowing that he'd have another day or two of the sling and then he'd be free from it.

But more important than that was finding out how Mitsukuni was doing. The last thing he remembered was the bathroom and gathering metal. Since they were together at the end of the night, Mori was certain that Mitsukuni would be fine, but...well, he still liked to confirm such things with his own eyes. With the twins gone and Tamaki still missing, Mori didn't want to take any chances anymore. Especially not with the strange announcements this morning.

As usual, his nurse came to collect him and helped him into his sling. Then he followed her quietly into the cafeteria, taking notice of the unusually empty bulletin board. They really were cracking down on it already. Weird. Even weirder? For once, he was the first into the room. Picking up a tray, he pointed out what he wanted, making sure to take double of the pancakes (asking to keep them away from the sausages for now), double of the strawberry jam and biscuits, and an extra helping of fruit. To top it off? Milk. It'd help his bones mend. Hopefully.

Going to a nearby seat, Mori took a look around the empty room and shivered. Kind of eerie in here without anyone else but the nurses. Someone was certain to come sooner or later though, right? He hoped so at least.

Loz? Hm, Honey didn't recognize the nationality, but a lot of people had interesting names in this place.

"It's nice to meet you Loz-san! Have you been here very long?" he asked, deciding to stay at least a little bit formal until he got to know the man better. He hadn't said anything mean yet, so maybe he was nice, just kind of big and intimidating like Takashi sometimes could be.

He didn't wait long for an answer before pouring syrup on every inch of his pancakes. He made sure to set Usa-chan aside on his own chair before digging in though. It was hard to get syrup stains out of his favorite stuffed animal.

"Not really," Loz replied. "Only a couple of days." Well, at least he'd made some good friends on his first day here, like Beelzemon and Alex.

Loz took a bite of some toast before asking, "What about you, how long have you been here?" Maybe Honey would know if Mother and Yazoo were here. Or at least where he could find Kadaj. Loz had expected to run into him by now at least. After all, Beelzemon had found his friend on the same day he came here.

"Oh, I think it's been over a week now. 8 or 9 days? It feels like forever though," he sighed, but tried not to dwell on that unpleasant fact. There were lots of other questions he could ask someone he'd just barely met. In fact, everyone here had an interesting story.

"What kind of world are you from Loz-san? My friends and I are from Japan, but it seems like there's people from all over! It's neat to hear everyone's stories. Ah-! I almost forgot!"

He grabbed napkins and propped up his pink bunny on the table. "This is one of my friends, Usa-chan. He's very happy to meet you too."

[identity profile] oldestremnant.livejournal.com 2009-11-04 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, he had been here a long time.

The Remnant didn't exactly know what to think when Honey introduced his toy to him. Loz wasn't sure if this was some game kids did with toys or just some weird little thing Honey did. Still, better play along or he might lose a chance to find out if the kid knew about Mother or Kadaj. He raised a hand up a little and gave the toy a small wave, "Hey..."

He put his hand down and took another bite of food before saying, "Don't know anyplace called 'Japan'. I'm from a world called Gia. My brothers and I came from the Crater. You haven't seen them, have you, by the way? They look kind of like me, only younger, skinnier, and with longer hair."

[identity profile] host-club-honey.livejournal.com 2009-11-04 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Honey smiled even wider and gave a giggle as he made Usa-chan wave back before setting him down. Maybe it was silly to have others humor him like that, but being childish wasn't always bad. Besides, it usually gave him a good impression of the other's personality.

"You have brothers too?" he asked, looking thoughtful and trying to remember if he'd seen anyone by that description. "I don't think I've met anyone who looks like that. Oh! But I have a little brother too. His name's Chika and he looks a lot like me too, but his hair's a little darker and he's kind of taller."

Talking about his family brought a pang of homesickness, but was with company now, he couldn't show that kind of bad emotion, it was rude to his breakfast companion. He didn't want to bring the conversation down. "Mm, but I'll make sure to watch for your brothers if you make sure to let me know if you see mine, okay?"

[identity profile] oldestremnant.livejournal.com 2009-11-04 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Loz frowned. So Honey didn't know anything about where his brothers were either. He was starting to think he would never find his brothers... never find Mother.

The Remnant sniffed a little, but quickly looked away and franitcally held his hands to his eyes, holding back whatever tears threatened to come out. He was not going to start crying. Once he'd gotten ahold of himself, Loz looked back at Honey. "Yeah, okay, I'll try and keep an eye out."

[identity profile] host-club-honey.livejournal.com 2009-11-04 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
The sight of a grown man being reduced to tears over his family might've been weird to some, but for Honey it seemed more endearing than anything. He could easily understand just how Loz felt, and there was no reason why he should be ashamed to show that he cared about his family.

"It'll be okay, we'll find them, definitely!" Honey nodded with enthusiasm. He wasn't sure how, but he wasn't going to give up hope either. "What are their names? Ah- I guess I should give you Chika's full name since he doesn't like to answer to that one... Yasuchika Haninozuka. But I like to call him Chika." To be honest, Honey really hoped he didn't see his brother in this place, but if he did, it was better to be safe...

"You must've been really close to your family. I'm sure they miss you too."

[identity profile] oldestremnant.livejournal.com 2009-11-04 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh good. Honey wasn't a big meanie who was gonna make fun of him for crying. Actually, everyone he'd cried in front of so far had been really nice about it. It kind of surprised him.

Loz had no idea if he would remember that name or not. It was so long and probably hard to pronounce to anyone other than Honey. He'd try to remember it long enough to write it down in his journal later. He really had to start carrying that thing around with him.

"Their names are Kadaj and Yazoo. Yeah, we are really close, though Yazoo's teasing makes me mad sometimes," Loz sighed. "All we pretty much had was each other our whole lives."

[identity profile] host-club-honey.livejournal.com 2009-11-04 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
It was sad to think of having only brothers to grow up with, but it happened in some families. And losing the people most dear to you was never easy.

"I'll remember them!" he promised. After all, with strange names like that, it wouldn't be trouble at all. Not to mention the descriptions. Loz was lucky in that regard. If they showed up, it would be easy to spot them right away.

"So have you joined any clubs? Or have you just been exploring on your own?"

[identity profile] oldestremnant.livejournal.com 2009-11-05 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Loz smiled, "Thanks." Alright! Now he had at least three people looking for his brothers. People here were so nice. Much nicer than any of the people from his world. The meanies who tried to get between the Remnants and Mother.

"Didn't know anything about any clubs. So far I've mostly just gone out and explored with my friends,"

[identity profile] host-club-honey.livejournal.com 2009-11-05 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's good. As long as you don't go alone, it's really scary out at night!" he nodded, glad that Loz had made some friends. It was hard, especially if you were new. He wished more people would take advantage of what the Cake Club offered aside from just the sweets, but he was having some trouble keeping members.

"I help run the Cake Club. We go out at night and bake! It's a lot of fun. If you ever want to come with us, just let me know, okay?"

[identity profile] oldestremnant.livejournal.com 2009-11-05 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Loz snorted, "Well, I'm not scared of anything." Yeah, he hadn't run into any monsters, but if they were anything like the ones from his world, he probably didn't have anything to worry about. Monsters could always be defeated.

Then again, that night he'd... "died" had been pretty scary.

The Remnant raised a silver eyebrow, "Bake? As in, make food?" What kind of club was that? There had to be clubs that were more fun than that. "There any clubs for making weapons, or just going out and playing?"

[identity profile] host-club-honey.livejournal.com 2009-11-05 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Honey giggled as he took another bite of his breakfast, trying not to get too sticky with all the syrup. Loz seemed pretty nice, kind of straightforward, but not in a bad way.

"Nothing at all? That's amazing Loz-san! I get scared sometimes, but I try really hard to be brave."

And while Honey had trouble keeping up with ALL the clubs that started and stopped and everything, he was pretty sure there were clubs like the one Loz was looking for. "Mm hmm. Well, we also help people so they don't have to be scared or alone at night. And in the daytime, me and Takashi used to give lessons on martial arts and stuff. But um! I think there's clubs like that. There's some that make weapons. I can't remember the name, but they said they'd help make some cute little kunai for me the other day. I'm sure if you ask, people will let you know."

[identity profile] oldestremnant.livejournal.com 2009-11-05 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Loz gave Honey a smug little smile. Of course he wasn't scared of anything. The way he saw it, there was nothing to be scared of.

The Remnant nodded, "Okay, maybe I can get to them through the bulle..." Loz then frowned, "Wait, that's right, they said they were gonna start watching the bulletin from now on." Now what was he suppossed to do? He was afraid that if he tried to get ahold of "the club that makes weapons" on the board, the meanie nurses would see it and take it down.

[identity profile] host-club-honey.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, Loz was right, Honey did remember hearing something like that on the intercom the other night. He hoped it wouldn't be too hard to get a message to his friends anymore.

"Hnnn... well maybe if you ask really careful?" he suggested. "Oh! That's right... it was Leon-san. He said he makes toys. So if you ask him about it, I think that's what they call it. To be sneaky!"

Honey added a secretive little giggle to his hushed whispers. Hopefully that would be enough for Loz to get what he was looking for.

[identity profile] oldestremnant.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
Loz put a hand to his chin in thought. "Hm... alright, I'll try asking for 'toys'." He held up his fingers and made air quotes at that last word. Might as well, if it was the only way to get what he needed. In all honesty, Loz probably would have never thought of that.

[identity profile] host-club-honey.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
The room was pretty full now and Honey glanced back at where Takashi had been sitting. Whatever they were talking about, he seemed pretty flustered. Honey appeared worried for only a second before he focused on his own new friend.

"Are you a really good fighter Loz-san? You must be if you're not scared of anything right? I bet your friends are happy to have someone brave like that to help them."

[identity profile] oldestremnant.livejournal.com 2009-11-06 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Loz grinned, "You bet I am." He was just lucky there were people back in his world that made good playmates. "And one of my friends is just as good as I am. He doesn't have powers like I do, but he can still play really good." He'd proven that when they'd played with the guy in the costume that one night.
