Nightshift 44: Doctor's Office 8 [Dr. Disraeli]
[From here]
Hime stepped inside the office, shining her flashlight about. Other than the painting visible immediately upon entering, there really wasn't anything very interesting in question. Walking about, Hime immediately gravitated to the tall bookshelves.
"So, is this 'bending' ability a common one?" she asked idly as she read over the titles. All at least a century old....
[I assume Kia will inform us of any surprises the doctor has left about the place for us?]

While Hime checked the shelves, Kagura went for the desk. Aside from the wooden pipe, there didn't seem to be anything of interest on the desktop, not that she thought their captors would leave their master plans lying out in plain sight, especially not with the Institute's grand farce.
Surprisingly, the drawers were unlocked, but Kagura wasn't about to get her hopes up. A few drawers yielded some papers, so she placed them on the table and took a seat in the doctor's chair. Hoping to glean some useful information, Kagura began examining the papers with her flashlight.

Sokka watched as the girls went to work, but wasn't so sure about what he should be doing. He'd never gone with a group to explore before, or rather he hadn't gotten to where they had intended to go with a group. The incident with the sand-bleeding thing definitely was a different matter than searching through a small room.
"I'll.... watch the door," he eventually offered, seeing that the two were at work and he did have the best weapon after all. If anything tried to come in and get them, he'd be sure to keep it at bay. He hoped.

A war, was it? It was hard to get a sense of scale from his answer. The fact that benders seemed to be the main force suggested they were many, but the word "tribe" suggested the overall war was of a smaller scale. Was his sister being the only one a matter of size or simply an indication of the devastation their group had suffered from the war?
"Just how large is this conflict? A fight between neighboring peoples, a battle of principalities, a struggle between nations?" Hime asked as she moved from the shelf to the desk. Going to the drawers Kagura had yet to check, she merely glanced over at what the other girl was inspecting before testing the drawers. Each one opened to reveal yet more paperwork and normal items... except for one. The drawer remained firmly shut no matter how much she rattled it.
"Sokka, come over here," she called out, rattling the handle again. She stood back and indicated the locked drawer. "Do you think you could force it open with your sword?"

After Hime called Sokka over, Kagura left her seat, so she could get out of their way. Looking around the room, it didn't seem like there was anything else of interest, except for the painting of a white lamb.

His head pulled back from looking out the door and he set his eyes where Hime was. "Huh? Oh, ok..." he agreed, and went over as ordered. Getting a drawer open, yeah, he could do that. "I guess just shine the light on it," he asked first, then worked at getting the sword as best into the space at the drawer's top. One he had it in, he put a foot onto the chair and tried to work at forcing it open by pulling it up.
The first try failed, and after easing off a moment, he took a deep breath and pulled up harder, holding his breath. This time the wood cracked and the drawer snapped unlocked.

She shone her flashlight as asked for, watching silently as the boy set about the work. When the drawer opened (and nothing jumped out), the princess shone her flashlight into its depths. It looked like more paperwork... and a pair of jars?
Reaching inside, she pulled out one of the jars, shining her flashlight on it, all the while unaware of the hallucinogen dispersing into the air of the darkened office.
"Hmph," Hime chuckled as she saw what was inside. The blue eyes stared back lifelessly. "What poor taste in hobbies this man has."

Good thing that Hime was the one holding the jar, because Kagura was certain she would've dropped it, shattering the jar and spilling the contents across the floor. Kagura might have been an exorcist who had faced all sorts of horrific spirits, but freaky things were still freaky. Rather, she wondered what sort of life Hime had that she could handle such an object with ease?
"I think there was something in the papers on the desk about... organ transplants." Kagura wasn't the squeamish type, at least not anymore, and once she calmed her heart, her professional attitude emerged. Unfortunately, she was starting to feel sluggish for an unknown reason. Maybe she was getting tired? Given that she normally worked odd hours, it was an unusual but not implausible explanation. How long had then been here?
