...But then he made his move. Anise yelped in pain and surprise when the God-General's hand suddenly clenched around her neck and pulled her to her feet. Her one hand still held her weapon, and she tightened her grip so as not to drop it. The other flew to her throat, trying to pry Sync's fingers away.
As she was yanked along, the girl choked out whatever protests, threats, and curses she could force out of her tightened airway, but she stopped abruptly when she heard his next words.
