Night 44: Sun Room

[from here]

It looked like they were the first ones in the Sun Room this night. There weren't any monsters in plain sight, which was a good sign.

Or was it? Getting held up by a monster actually sounded kind of nice, for once. If it was strong enough, it could keep Sync busy - maybe even enough to derail his plans. Of course, it would also put their lives in danger, but they were in tons of danger anyway. Whoever said "better the devil you know than the devil you don't" obviously didn't know Sync the Tempest.

So even though Anise walked into the Sun Room with soft, cautious steps like she usually would, the girl inwardly found herself praying for someone or something to intercept them.

Well, it didn't seem like there was a fight going on tonight. Was the sun room empty? That was good, less to stand between them and the basement. SubZero wasn't really in the mood to deal with brainwashed patients or the more dangerous creatures that lurked in the building at night.

He motioned for Arlene and HK to come in. Although with no one in here, they might face two in a row in the upcoming rooms. And there was no one to distract any opposition they might run into.

Beatrix smoothly followed SubZero in, already knowing there was something inside. She was quite glad he'd just headed in, the Bride not wanting to waste any time either on unnecessary conversation. Immediately upon entrance, she started looking around for the source of that electrical flare she'd seen through the seams of the Sun Room doors earlier.

Nothing yet. She gave SubZero a universal hand signal to alert SubZero (and HK-47 if the droid hadn't noticed the flare earlier) of the imminent danger. Remembering last night's occupant, Beatrix scanned the ceiling and balcony area.

HK followed, for once apparently not on meat shield duty. Someone else who had been made of meat for their entire existence would obviously be much better at the job than he was.

With the windows in the ceiling it was brighter in here, but he was still glad that he'd retained his infrared capabilities. If there were any heat signatures in this place, he would find them. As long as they weren't hiding from him in some devious way that he had yet to uncover.

The passing party followed their rabbit, their wolf and lambs, and Albedo had no eyes to see. Nigredo responded in an obvious way, and Albedo grinned in amusement. {But that would ruin the fun.} Much like how he was supposed to ruin others' this night. He hadn't been doing a very good job. Perhaps he would be punished. The bioweapon giggled softly. Oh, let them try. It'd be marvelous.

His eyes darted downwards at the creaking open of the door once more, head tilted to watch as another party of three came in. Oh, how dark and dreary this group seemed! Perhaps he should do his task, and liven up their night. There were many games to play, many and much, and they had all the time that entropy tried to steal. Their time would lax first, these poor creatures tied to the mortal coil, but Albedo could attempt to make their stay a little more... thrilling... while they resided where life was offered to them.

Laughter burst out of him, then, and Albedo pushed off the railing to hover in the air next to it. Violet rose around him once more as he stared downwards, the grin solid on his expression. Albedo didn't speak for a moment, merely raised an eyebrow as he took them in and their fun little weapons that they offered. The female was in the center, a normal protective formation, and females were so fragile after all. Normally this deployment would work, except their enemy was currently in the air. A test, perhaps? To see how well they play? The grin widened, eyes much too wide glowed, and Albedo pulled the waveform surrounding him to coalesce together in front of him, a spherical orb almost his size, meant to shove and bruise, but not yet break (no, not yet, not quite yet), and sent it hurtling towards the woman. Would she fall, this delicate female? Cry out in pain?

Like all the others. Like the one before. Like no one. As it sped towards her, he giggled again, something frantic in the tones.

The sudden appearance of an opponent wasn't all that surprising. SubZero stared up cautiously. Out of the three of them, he was the only one able to attack enemies at a distance, but he didn't want to waste any of his ice this early in the night.

SubZero started moving, instead of immediately attacking. The kid in the air was laughing, and it looked as though he was most interested in attacking Arlene. He moved around to the side, trying to distance himself from the other two and get into a better position to get a ranged freezing attack off. The more the kid concentrated on the other two the less likely he would be to dodge the blast.

It wasn't hard to spot the child as Beatrix had been looking to the ceiling and balconies. Her eyes narrowed as she continued to move forward, unwilling to let the boy stop her. She normally did not like to hurt children, but anyone could tell this one was not the typical child. It would not have surprised her to find he'd already lost his blood innocence.

The purple glowing ball sailed at her and the Bride jumped back. She knew she wasn't going to avoid it completely, so she decided to use the boy's attack as a form of cover. Grabbing the pairing knife out of concealment in her hair, she threw it at the boy, the small blade grazing past the purple ball of energy. Seeing her aim appeared true, Beatric braced herself for impact and the energy ball hit her. She was expecting searing pain. She did not get any of that, but something that reminded her far too much of that blast of rock salt she'd taken from Bud's shotgun.

The assassin grunted in pain and she stumbled a little to the side, but she did not cry out. She did not fall. She sure as hell did not cry. She regained her balance and looked up at the boy with cold eyes. She'd wanted to see his blood dripping to the floor.

Well, of course when something came into viewing range, it just had to glow so that it made his infrared useless. The meatbag makes this too easy! What happened to the days when anything worth fighting purchased a stealth field generator?

He moved away from the female assassin, switching both of his primary weapons into one hand, and pulling out a scalpel. He threw it at the floating, glowing meatbag. It was the first time he'd had an opportunity to exercise his specialty in quite a while: accuracy at range. He waited to see if it would connect, musing that the floating one would probably make an excellent Life Day ornament.

Oh, they were moving in something almost like a formation! How quaint. Albedo laughed again, feeling the sphere hit the woman even as her blade darted upwards. She staggered but didn’t fall. How fun! Perhaps he could play, perhaps--

The thought was cut off as the woman’s own blade found the target she had aimed for, as the entity hadn’t dreamed of dodging. The blade slid easily into Albedo’s right eye socket, blood and liquid leaking outward in a rush as the eye popped. Perception dipped and black hovered around his vision, but Albedo was never one to simply see. His methods of perception encompassed much more than that. A second hit thunked into his left arm below the shoulder, lodging itself deeply. This he ignored entirely as he grinned downwards at the cold-eyed woman, reaching upwards to grab the blade out. "And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it before thee...." The bioweapon tilted his head to the side, remaining eye glowing for a solitary moment, before the other eye prefabricated itself back into being, completing the ultraviolet set.

Something slid around the edges of his perception, a tell-a-tale warning of something coming closer, slinking into the halls nearby, but Albedo was too entranced, his waveform dancing to the Song locked inside his mind; undulations of magenta and violet wrapping around each other, trancelike--the chorus reaching high, the bridge dipping low. His face cracked into a parody of joy, teeth flashing in the dark. “Do you have ears to hear?” he proclaimed, doubting the truthfulness of that. They would not understand the way they currently were. No, they couldn’t.... And why waste the effort on these inconsequential mortals? For a moment, the boy raised upwards by feet, thicker energy surrounding him. A second later it clouded his form, then shot out at everyone in the room.

[“Carrion of Souls” hits all and knocks everyone down, plus deals minor to moderate damage. Your choice on this, since it’s an energy attack. Can be battering damage, cuts and wounds, or internal injuries.]

The ticking, trembling, slid closer in an instant, and Albedo's eyes tore away from the group he had moved against. Others were approaching, more and many, and in that--

A second heartbeat slamming.

The door opened again, a pair to his third, and Albedo moved towards them, wondering about the sound within.

There was no real way to dodge the energy attack that came from the kid, and even diving behind a couch didn't protect SubZero from the attack. The blast hit him just before he hit the ground, and it felt as though it passed through him as well.

SubZero found himself coughing a little bit, and he didn't need to see it to know that there had been some blood in that cough. He could taste it. Thankfully it seemed the kid was distracted by other people. SubZero waited for a moment before he got up.

Such regeneration was clearly unnatural and quite a bit creepy. It was enough to make Beatrix rethink confrontation with this boy. It would be best to run, she decided, when the child sent some kind of energy all over the place. Unable to avoid it, the Bride crossed her arms before her face and braced herself for the impact.

The force dropped her to a knee and then she had to put a hand to the ground to keep herself from being completely driven into the ground. Dark purple bruises blossomed across her arms, she had a pounding headache and her body ached. She really hated magic; bullets were easier to deal with.

At least the boy had found another group to harass. "Move," the Bride croaked out, getting to her feet to lead the way into the cafeteria.
