Nightshift 44: F-A Block Hallway

[From here]

Hime peered out into the hallway. It was mostly empty; it seemed she was one of the first to come out of their cells. While this presented the problem of wandering alone without the cover of the herd, this also gave her a chance to scout out the population as they left their rooms. While Hime had confidence in her fighting abilities, she had no delusions about taking on whatever horrors lurked here by herself. Besides, she needed to find people who could fight; the basement did not sound like the kind of place one explored on their own, or even with just one other.

Recalling that all the patient rooms filtered out into the main hallway, Hime headed that way.

As soon as they'd moved back out into the hallway Yukito had subsided, allowing the silently-restless Yue to take over again. The guardian moved ahead with an impatient air, distancing himself slightly from Touya as they walked - not far enough that he wasn't there to guard him should the need arise, but just enough to make it obvious that he wasn't trying to stay close, either.

They had to hurry and find Sakura, he told himself as they went. He just wanted to hurry and get there before anything happened. It had nothing to do with any lingering awkwardness after that little scene in the room; he'd told Yukito that the boy was welcome to do whatever he wanted, after all. He simply didn't have to pay attention.

Once they reached the women's block, though, Yue abruptly paused, staring unfocused into the darkness as though listening to a distant sound. "She isn't in her room," he observed, sounding mildly irritated. Had she wandered off somewhere during the delay? Or maybe her room assignment had simply changed - that apparently happened to people, though never him. She was still nearby, though, he could tell that much.

"What?" Touya asked, looking down her hallway in alarm. Even though Yue had been less-than-communicative and standoffish during the journey there, that was long forgotten. What had happened? Was Sakura's roommate still there? Maybe she could tell him where his sister had gone.

He moved--quickly--past Yue and into Sakura's hallway.
