Nightshift 43: Main Hallway 2-East
[from here]
He flicked away his old cigarette and lit another as they entered the next hallway. It was kind of nice to get through that last one unmolested, but he wasn't going to count on their luck holding out for much longer. (Even for Badou it was a sad night when wondering through the halls of a glitchy monster-filled hospital with zombie girl behind you counted as 'luck'. But whatever, man. You took what you could get.)
At least she wasn't trying to eat him or anything. That could get awkward.
"Should be the next corridor coming up." Badou offered, partially to distract himself from that new, even more exciting line of thought. "You know, you never told me what you did back home."

The glitch Alkaid had seen replayed itself in her mind. There had been some stray pipes on the walls, and then there weren't. It reminded her of a buggy area in The World, or something. And it only added to her evidence that the place was really some kind of iteration of a program, if not somehow a hacked, buggy server in The World.
Maybe Haseo would have some ideas if she ran it by him.
She shrugged when he asked her, dropping her voice a little quieter since it seemed they were in a hallway that no one was in. It was.. really quiet, although she heard some ruckus from below. "Huh? Back home? Me? Ohhhh.... you wouldn't really want to know. I mean, you'd be really surprised when I told you that I only really kick butt half the time."
That was when they hit the corner, and Alkaid turned down the instructed hallway.

Stepping into the open area, Teresa looked around. There was a balcony overlooking something, moonlight streaming down from above. She stepped to the edge and looked down into the center room. She remembered passing this way when they took her to the religious chamber, but all the handlers had made it hard to see what this overlooked.
Her gaze moved up, looking for the bats that had attacked her and Euphy the previous night. She didn't see any of them, but what she did see was a darkened, oddly shaped shadow on the glass ceiling. It almost looked like a youma lying in wait for unsuspecting prey to pass by. Yet, the hybrid's senses were not picking up anything.
What was it?

Actually... that had been bothering him. Rolo was not well-versed in culture and mythology, but he had never heard of "youma". Yet Teresa acted like it was common knowledge, and even told him that she expected him to recognize her when Rolo had never even heard of a description of a woman warrior who felled youma. And to not know of the Massacre Princess, yet she acted like Euphemia was a good friend of hers... it was odd. Like Teresa was from another world or something.
Despite all he'd been through on this short night, Rolo found that thought too ludicrous to entertain. So he just followed Teresa's gaze when she leaned over a railed balcony, overlooking some room, and saw the strange black thing that she was staring at so intensely.
It looked like a human-shaped figure stuck to the wall. This was getting ridiculous.
"Another youma?" Rolo could tell she was bothered by it, so he kept his voice hushed so she wouldn't complain. This was the most talkative he'd been in... awhile, to be honest, so speaking softly came a little naturally.

"I am... unsure," she replied, not happy to admit such to the boy, though it was the truth. "It seems to act like one, yet it doesn't feel like one."

Rolo started to understand why Teresa was so bothered. An enemy unknown was the most dangerous kind to take on. There was a reason why Rolo was briefed as much as possible about his targets and left nothing to chance where information could not be found.
"Is it watching us?" He had his eyes set on the doors opened across the balcony, before them. It looked a little safer to be there than out in the open.

She watched it a moment longer, mentally calculating the distance from it to them and came to a conclusion. "It is far enough away that even if it was capable of reaching us in a single motion, I can cut it out of the air." A pause. "Figuratively speaking as I am currently swordless." Teresa couldn't exactly cut anything until she did some modifications to the metal piece across her back.

"Let's go over there," Rolo nodded towards the open room before them, and he started to edge towards the wall, moving a little slowly to try and not attract it's attention.

Faintly, floating through the air above the Sun Room, came what sounded like someone singing. Teresa did not recognize the annoying tune, though it was somewhat catchy. Why was something hanging around on the ceiling like that singing?
"Do you hear that?"
[For the record, Teresa hears the theme song to Happy Days. So says Kaboosh.^^]

Ghosts, disembodied voices singing songs, and dead people. This was ridiculous.
"Yes," Rolo muttered, looking very unamused.
"It might be a psychological warfare tactic. I think it's trying to confuse us."
[ OH SPIDEY. ♥ ]
no subject
"I don't believe it actually has noticed us. It seems... bored." Something the hybrid could understand. "Nonetheless, you wished to go that way?"

Moving carefully so he wouldn't attract the thing's attention, Rolo made his way into the large room.

Looked like they reached the East wing now. If the map had been right, there should be a hallway to their left somewhere around here leading to those storage rooms.
"For some place supposed to be crawlin' with monsters, it's pretty quiet," she said, glancing around.
no subject
He was pretty sure that wasn't the case, but it wasn't like they were equipped to scare away potential monsters. Perhaps the smiling faces on the fronts of the uniforms were some sort of bizarre deterrent.
no subject
"And what kinda places have you been to, anyway?" she asked curiously as she continued down the hallway.
no subject
"Caves, dungeons, factories, prisons, palaces, flying masses of land..." he listed, trying to remember everywhere he'd been and keeping his eyes on where he thought he saw Sabin. "Frankly, if you name a general locale, it's likely I've been there at some point in time. Most of the places I've been had some sort of guardians or beasts inhabiting them."
no subject
"I bet you never been to my place." she continued before noticing they had reached the corner. Storage rooms should be nearby soon.

Rolo only slowed down once he reached the safety of another hallway, anxious to just get out of the wide area they were just in. Of course, when he got a better look around... huh, weren't they just here?
Oh well. Rolo knew they didn't explore this area very well and it didn't hurt to have another look for anything that they missed. It looked like the hallway turned into another area, so he decided to just move forward from there, even though he spotted some doors that could have been opened.
He figured if Teresa saw something interesting, she may or may not let him know. And Rolo may or may not stop for her.
no subject
"How interesting. It appears the building is alive." In a way, but Teresa only phrased it that way to pique Rolo's curiosity so he'd look. She contemplated making contact with it to see if the consistence of the flesh was the same. It'd been an awfully long time since she'd been swallowed by an awakened; they usually never lived long enough to even try it.
Ah... the days of being young and on her first hunt.
no subject
"..." He gave her a look, as if to say Are you kidding me? and decided to keep going. Most of the weird things Teresa said ended up being true and Rolo wasn't keen on checking if her latest statement was true.

Jason glanced around the empty hall as he reached the top of the stairs, disappointed by how quiet the night had been so far. Aside from the lousy intercom announcements and the apparent hallucinations nothing had happened. Maybe nothing would, just to throw them off-balance after last night.
It was good that he and Two-Face had had time to plan out how they'd go about tackling Batman but now he was getting restless. A fight would give him a chance to see how this Two-Face handled himself and let him work off some energy. Even though he knew it would be better to avoid anything tonight so they were both ready to take on Batman tomorrow night. Knowing it didn't make Jason any less eager for trouble.
He didn't bother saying anything, just starting for the next hall so they could get the damn rope already.

It didn't matter, though. The more he thought about it, the harder it would be to get over it. She was gone and that was that.
Thankfully, Jason wasn't pressing him about it. Maybe the kid at least had enough sense to realize that there was a time and a place -- then again, there was no time where Harvey would be willing to explain his earlier reaction. It wasn't happening.
At least they had almost reached that janitor's closet. The two of them were of the same mind in that Harvey wasn't wasting any time in finishing up their trip.
