Night 43: West Wing, South Hall 1-A

[from here]

The halls were empty so far, which was probably a good sign. Suzaku was hoping to get a move-on quickly, so they could hurry up and get Yuffie's sword made. The first night he'd been here, he'd been pulled back to his bed the instant he made it outside, so they'd have to move fast if they wanted to make any decent progress. And right now he couldn't afford to focus on anything but just that, making progress.

"I am an Angel," he said, although no matter how true it was, the words seemed strange. He had already decided that there was no cause to obscure that truth any longer, but he had never had a reason to say it until coming here.

While he had been growing up, everyone around him had simply known. They floated in and out of his life with very few questions for him. They would ask their charts, tests and machines if they needed to know anything further. Even Otacon had the information at his fingertips, and it was Kaworu who had been less informed.

The rest had found out when he had revealed himself, but it didn't require Kaworu to say anything. With one action, his identity became clear. Again, he hadn't needed to say anything. Shinji simply knew, and there were outside sources that had explained everything to him. The only questions he had were ones that Kaworu could not find the right answers to.

Saying it aloud made Kaworu feel a little isolated. His world was more private than ever.

When he heard Kaworu's response, Luffy blinked and turned to give the boy another look. Then, his face lit up, recognition dawning over his features. "Oh, an angel, I get it!" he said with a wide grin "I met people who looked like angels once. They had wings, played music, and ate delicious food." He brought his fist into the palm of his other hand. "Oh! And they lived on top of the clouds, too." But those had been Skipieans and Shandians, not really angels.

Kaworu didn't have wings, and Luffy wasn't sure whether he played music or had lived in the sky before coming to Landel's. But maybe that wasn't what angels really did. Or maybe people who lived on the White White Sea were related to angels somehow? Their family reunions were probably kind of hilarious.

"I've never met a real one before, though," Luffy added excitedly. "So that's how they really look!" The pirate laughed, giving no regard to the fact that most people would probably be more concerned with sneaking around. "Interesting!"

Kaworu couldn't help but laugh with Luffy, although the noise he made was quieter and a little awkward from infrequent use. He didn't keep his voice down because of some practical reason, but only because Kaworu rarely raised or lowered his voice for anything. When he spoke again, it was in the same clear, feathery tone as always, and it echoed off the walls carelessly.

"They don't all look like me," he said, smiling lightly. Kaworu hastened his steps so that he caught up with Luffy and was the first to enter the main hallway.
