Day 43: Sun Room, 4th Shift

The late-afternoon sun filled the large, open Sun Room. It was almost enough to make you sleepy, Euphemia thought, as she walked in, brushing a little glitter off her shirt. She didn't particularly feel like she was up to much - the worrying about everyone had drained her, as much as she'd tried not to think too much about it.

With that thought in the back of her mind, she walked over towards the bulletin board. It looked like it was cleared off at the end of the day, because now it was filled with information. She made a note of the 'primer' post, then began copying the maps onto some paper she'd taken with her from the Arts and Crafts Room.

One more thing struck her, though - the idea of visitors. Was this what all the announcements about graduates were? She thought of the others then, and frowned, hoping that neither of them were going through anything like that today.

"A whole dimension?! But does that mean you're dead?" he asked, a little sad but still that buzz of eagerness about him. "What about dead people, aren't they around much?"

Chihaya nodded, the spark of sadness growing a little. "I do but... I love Earth just as much. I can be...happy here." As happy as he could be, without Kagetsuya.

"Uh-uh. I'm a Kaioshin- kind of like an overseer for everything that happens in the universe- so I'm still alive. The dead people either go to heaven or to hell." He broke off, hearing himself for the first time and grinning sheepishly. "This must be really confusing, huh?"

On the topic of speaking without thinking, his last remark about missing home seemed to have struck a less positive chord with Chihaya. "Earth's a really great planet," Kibitoshin agreed, awkwardness turning to sincerity, "and I'll bet you could be happy here, too. Well, not here here, but on the planet."

"Um, a little! But I think I understand mostly. Even Angels believe in Heaven and Hell," he smiled. Chihaya still wasn't completely convinced that this WASN'T hell.

"It is! And I want to visit my friends once I get out of here. And then, from there, I think I'll work things out."

"That's good!" Kibitoshin laughed, albeit a little self-consciously, and lifted his stare out of its hiding place in his lap. "I haven't been having the best luck with explanations today."

Before he had the chance to drift into anecdotal nonsense he swiftly caught up with Chihaya's end of the conversation. "What kind of stuff do you think you'd do? I mean, like a job or something? I can't even imagine what kind of work I'd be fit for." Other than not law, of course. Thank you for that, Franziska.
