Day 43: Sun Room, Second Shift

When the shift changed, HK stayed put. Even after a long night of zombie killing, he had no interest in meatbag fuel, especially after all the discussion of chocolate with that rather strange meatbag. It was just making him crave the stuff even more than he had previously, if that was possible.

Oh, right. He was supposed to be looking for someone who was "VERY LARGE, WITH DARK HAIR." And also seemed to not know what lower-case letters were on the bulletin. As if that would help. He'd seen a likely candidate last shift, but talk of chocolate had distracted him.

It worried her, that he said nothing, and unconsciously, she held him just a little tighter. For once she wasn't thinking about what someone else might think or if it was the sort of thing Tohru might do. She just hoped it was the right thing for Bridget. It didn't matter if he cried, boys might not shed tears as often as she did, but she knew she always felt better after she'd had herself a good cry.

This time, she said nothing. Maybe right now, she didn't need a story or the right words or a perfect meal. Maybe this was enough.

He cried against Kagura for what felt like days before he was finally able to gather himself again and he lifted his head from her shoulder with a sniff. Bridget knew he must have looked horrible, but he hugged her tightly once more before looking up at her.

"Th-thank you, Miss Sohma."

Maybe it was selfish, but it felt good to be able to return the favor. She let go when he seemed ready and sat beside him in her own seat. Her cheeks were pink, but she hardly noticed.

"I would've come sooner, but the nurses said I had to go have breakfast," she pouted. While it was business as usual for them to wake up in their own beds, no matter how far they wandered, not everyone showed up again in the morning, even if they were fine the night before.

"I'm glad you're okay."

"It's okay," Bridget said, rubbing at his face with the bottom of his shirt. "I wasn't hungry myself and went to the chapel instead." He sniffed and offered a small smile to Kagura.

"I'm glad you're okay too."

It was a relief to see him smile, even if it was only a little one. They seemed hard to come by here, where everything seemed to go wrong. But she knew they should still try to keep busy. If there were things to do, perhaps it would be easier not to think about all those bad things and how twisted everything around them was.

"Do you think maybe... we should keep working for what Armand-san was trying to do?" she asked carefully. The man had good ideas and she'd felt at least somewhat useful trying to help out with their small group. And if none of them did anything, wouldn't it fall apart? And what then?

He sniffled a bit and then nodded. "I think so, if you're okay with that Miss Sohma. We could really be useful, doing something like that," he said. "I can ask Mr. T.K. about it when I get the chance."

He didn't want to see the other man right now though. He had a feeling he was taking it even harder than he was.

"I don't mind at all, I think it's a good idea," she agreed, fiddling with her hands in her lap. She didn't have a clue who T.K. was, but if he was working with Armand, maybe the group would do better than she'd thought. That was a relief. There were a few others that might be worth looking into, but it might be best to stick with what they knew.

Taking a slow breath to calm himself down further, Bridget turned to look at Kagura again with a warmer smile. "Should things not pan out with him tonight, what would you like to do tonight?"

[identity profile] kagurazuki.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
It was a good question. Most likely, it would take a while for the new T.K. person to get things figured out. As brave as she could pretend to be in the daytime though, at night, what if things were worse than before?

"I don't know," she said after a moment of quiet contemplation. "S-something easy." She honestly wouldn't mind taking a night off after the horrors of last night.

"Would..." Bridget blushed slightly and hoped he wouldn't sound like a coward or anything for suggesting it,but... "Would you like to stay in? Just for a night, maybe?"

Honestly, the bounty hunter didn't want to go out, not this soon after losing someone important.

[identity profile] kagurazuki.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Kagura would've felt guilty suggesting it herself, but Bridget seemed to be of a similar mind.

"I'd like that," she said after a moment. "I- we could still work on things um- I could... I could teach you to sew or use a bat or... you could show me how to use a yo-yo or... we could..." she trailed off, unsure if he'd even wanted to stick together or just spend the night in his own room. She couldn't really fault him for that. Maybe he wanted time to himself.

Bridget nodded, relaxing now that she seemed to think it would be a good idea as well. "I'd like that," he said. "As long as I'm not imposing or anything of course." She might want to be alone after all and he wasn't going to be rude.

[identity profile] kagurazuki.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh- n-no, I don't mind at all," she replied. Funny how they seemed to be thinking the same thing. As if she would mind having Bridget's company! He'd been the only one to help her when she was on the verge of hysterics last night. Not to mention the countless other things he'd done for her.

"Please, I don't want to be alone and-... and I like being with you."

[identity profile] roger-hug.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Reaching over he carefully took her hand and squeezed it before letting go. His cheeks were pink, but he was smiling. "Alright then. I'll meet you at your room once the doors unlock. Is that alright?"

[identity profile] kagurazuki.livejournal.com 2009-08-16 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
It wasn't a completely unfamiliar feeling, but it was hard to believe that it was possible to feel even a little happy here. Somehow, Bridget managed to make things better with something as silly as holding her hand. She smiled back, her earlier fears almost forgotten.

"Of course, that's fine. I'll wait for you," she assured him. While she wasn't sure how much they'd actually accomplish, a break would probably be a good idea for both of them.

[agh, sorry for failing. D:]
