Dayshift 42: Tasty Burger - Afternoon

After lunch, Kanji had just decided to stay sitting at the table and slowly finish off his soda while he tried to think of something productive he could do while he had the chance here in town. ...Ah, who was he fooling? He had no clue what the hell to do. His senpai probably had a list of things they could all be doing while in town. Investigating stuff or mapping the landscape or gathering information from the townspeople or... something like that. But Kanji had no clue how to go about any of those things. He had the observational skills of a rock and him walking around trying to talk to everyone wouldn't end well.

But even he knew he couldn't just sit here, slurping on his soda all day. He just needed to think of something. Yeah. Something.

....

He drank some more.

Artemis was a little surprised that Badou hadn't simply slung Artemis over his shoulder and carried him off to wherever they were planning on getting ice cream. He seemed to understand the position Artemis had suddenly found himself in.

The boy gave Badou a weak smile and stood up, still holding Haku's hand. "I can't sulk forever, I should try to get my mind off of things." He looked over at Haku. "Do you want to get ice cream with us? I'd like it if you came."

It was a good thing Artemis got up, because Badou was quite willing to throw him over his shoulder if the bargaining stage didn't work out. Maybe even if it did work out, just for kicks, but holding hands was practically second base for Haku and Artemis. He wasn't going to break it up. And, well, he couldn't carry them both without the risk of grave bodily injury.

He stood up properly and dusted off his knee. "Yeah, come on Haku. You can't abandon me with Arty all evening." Badou closed his hands in front of him in a vague pleading gesture.

"I'm sure Alle won't mind. He needs to meet more people in general."

Haku stood when Artemis stood, keeping their hands together. He smiled politly at Badou. "I do not mind going with Artemis," he said. He also didn't mind meeting new people and potential allies, but even if they weren't, he wasn't about to leave his friend's side.

"And ice cream sounds like a good idea." He smiled, totally ignoring the coat he held in his hand. "It's a bit warm out."

Artemis laughed a little. "Only you could be warm in what must be December," he said, lacing his fingers with Haku's and feeling comforted by the familiar cool temperature.

"I'd be happy to meet Mr. Alle as well," he said, looking out from behind Badou. "Is he the one standing outside the restaurant, looking a little irritated?"

Badou had to agree. Cold cut through him like a wet sheet of paper no matter what he wore. Haku was lucky - he was probably cold-blooded. Man, he just couldn't win with anyone at all today.

Not to mention his life was still about to end. "That's not a happy face. Maybe he had some bad fried steak." There went his cigarette too, and he had no spares to boot. Even nicotine was abandoning him. He couldn't keep from sounding like a man resigned to his death. "His full name is Allelujah, so just laugh before we get there and make sure it's out of your system."
