Day 22: Brunch

Cid usually liked sleeping in, especially in a place as messed up and uninviting as this, but this happened to be one situation where he really wished he hadn't.

Right there, on the bulletin board. The Head Doctor and he'd fucking missed it? Some part of him wished he'd been there to take his eye out and another part of him knew he wouldn't have been able to. No man that powerful who hid for so long went to dangerous places without some kind of entourage.

Brunch sounded like it'd be filling, at least, though he nearly stopped in his tracks when the bastard announced TEA. TEA. It'd been a damn long while since he'd had some fucking tea, though with all the stress this place had found fit to rain down on his fucking head, it hadn't really been the first priority on his mind. Kinda nice, even if Cid was sure this was just some game the mother fucker was playing to get them all stuck neck-deep in Stockholm Syndrome.

He scanned the mostly-empty room for any sign of a familiar face once he'd piled waffles and sausages and syrup on his plate, though the person he really wanted to talk to was that Reynolds guy. "Spaceship" was the last word he remembered clearly before waking up in his bed, and dammit if he wasn't going to keep it stuck like glue in his mind.

He found a table where he could watch people come into the cafeteria and grabbed for his mug. The steam rising from his drink and the bag of herbs in it was nearly enough to make him grin despite it all, and it was with marked leisure and a little relief that he drank his goddamn tea.

Ari shrugged. Didn't everyone have weird names here? Well, names that they weren't supposed to be called, anyway. Not necessarily weird. The boy didn't know an 'Anthony Hopkins', but the staff insisted that person was him...

At the mention of the staff coming to take them elsewhere, Ari glanced from side to side, looking for the approaching nurses...but there was none. He frowned, a confused look as he turned his head to look up at Waka again. "What do you mean?" he asked, only to be answered by the announcement calling for the change of shift.

Ari blinked, surprised. Did Waka know that was going to happen? It was hard to believe, but he did say he was a prophet, right? He just didn't think prophets, well...prophesied the little stuff...

"I guess I'll see you later, then..." the boy said as his nurse came over to usher him to the next room. He didn't want to leave his new friend, but he'd already seen the results of too many fights today. And he had no urge to be sedated any time soon...

They were moving so quickly, and Miku went to get between them. Surely all this talk about blood and cliches was idiocy. They were being idiots.

...And now, they were being bitey idiots. What was this world coming to? Miku tried tugging on Chase's shoulder, but he was tense and her gentle prodding did no good. "Please, stop, Alucard-san, please! Don't hurt him!"

Those teeth sunk into his hand and Chase slammed his own teeth together, refusing to make any sound. He bit him! That miserable bloodsucking bastard bit his hand! Certainly he'd been expecting something to happen, maybe those teeth to go back at his neck, but not his damned hand!

With a fierce tug, Chase ripped his hand free from Alucard's mouth, scoring bloody tracks in his fingers. Doing so threw him off balance, and he slammed his bloody hand into the table to keep from falling over completely. Yet he still couldn't wrench his other arm free - Alucard had a firm grip on it - and that girl was trying to interfere.

He had to get away from here, had to get his hands free. Chase tried to yank Alucard down and elbow him as he did so with his caught hand - but it was difficult, because this man was so damn tall and stronger than a human should be. Of course, humans didn't drink blood.

He growled loudly when the boy managed to get his wounded hand free. Had Alucard been at his normal limits, the appendage would've come clean off. The vampire let him go anyway, still holding on to Chase's other wrist as he quickly moved foward, allowing himself to be pulled down.

If they fell onto the floor, Alucard would have the little morsel in a nice pin and he would be able to feed.

Instinct guided his actions now. Gritting his bloodied fangs together when he felt Chase's elbow jab him somewhere in the chest -smart boy-, he pinned the young man against the floor, teeth now sinking into his intended target from the beginning-- the soft, vulnerable throat. Then he began sucking whatever blood which started to spurt out of the bite.

Suddenly, nothing mattered. It didn't matter that his elbow had landed directly in Alucard's chest, didn't matter that the man had nearly bitten off his tongue when Chase slammed his jaws together. All that Chase was able to focus on was the fact that he was suddenly pinned, a body crushing his arms against him, and there was a sharp pain in his neck and blood was spilling out of him.

And that man, Alucard?

Was sucking it away.

For a long moment (several long moments, actually), Chase was paralyzed, stunned by the very concept of what was happening to him. But as his blood was drained away into the mouth of that ungodly tall man, he regained his energy and bucked, trying to shove Alucard off him and away. He wouldn't cry out, wouldn't call for help or try to get himself sympathy from the nurses or orderlies. No, he would get rid of this man himself.

"Get. OFF," he snarled, voice so quiet it wouldn't carry even to Miku.

Envy snorted and smirked, raising an eyebrow at their cynicism. They were all too quick to doubt him, not that that was surprising, but it didn't make much of a difference. He knew he was right. The joke was on them either way.

"How else is it that you were dead before but still conscious now?" He asked, "Honestly, you morons are so peurile sometimes. You only believe what your lame grip on 'science' can tell you," He picked up his plate and slid off the table, "Take it from the Gate's own little abomination; there's more to the universe than your limited views on life and death. I know where we are. And your denying it doesn't change that."

He began to walk away, smiling to himself.

"Have fun faking innocence, you two," he called, "Nice to know you're still as impulsive as usual, Greed. We're going to get along so well." He disappeared in the crowd to put away his things and meet up with his nurse like the good little patient he was.

"Strange... the Colonel Roy I knew manipulated Snake a lot after I left..." At the question about Snake being alright or not, Fox glanced away.

"He... they took his right eye, and now he looks almost exactly like his father. Other than that, I think he's alright." Snake looked like Big Boss, even more so than he had when Fox had first met the clone.

"His father was my CO, the man I died fighting for. I think Snake's pretty upset about being forced to look a lot more like him. I don't know what else they did to him... but he was with his engineer this morning." Fox wanted to find some way to get off the topic of Snake. It was not something he wanted to talk about at all.

"Do you know what a Katana is?"

Ed snorted disbelievingly. "Must be something to do with the name," he said, half teasingly. Damn Mustang and his evil ways. He was good to have as backup though.

Ah, Ed knew all about Father issues. He foled his arms across his chest. "I get told I look my my father too," he said, scowling. "I think they're crazy. The bastard's all beardy and looks nothing like me." And was also around four hundred years old and rotting. No need to bring that up though.

"A katana?" He shook his head. That wasn't a word he'd heard before. "Not a clue."
