NIGHTSHIFT 41: Main hallway 1-East
[from here]
Allen hoped to finish the errand as quickly as possible so he could get on with the important things and mentally kicked himself for getting into this mess in the first place. Of all the wagers he might've made, this was probably the easiest to fulfill, but it was still a pain. And who knew if Sora would be waiting for him? He supposed he could head out to the quarry himself, though it'd be difficult to get down on his own. He owed them at least that much.
For now, though, he concentrated on running down this hall and on toward the next.

Now completely on his own, Sho felt the urge to run again. Fear? Hardly. This was his element. He just felt like running for the pure chemical satisfaction of it.

Half-falling down the stairs, Sho stumbled out into the hall. He'd left that blasted alien behind but his body was still burning on a cellular level. At least his injuries were fairly superficial. Clicking on his flashlight, he continued down the hall towards his destination.

The stairs were just ahead, and still, nothing emerged from the shadows to challenge them. It was a little unnerving, especially since Lelouch hadn't made it nearly this far his first night before the cats had pounced. He also had yet to see any monsters attacking any other patients, which... where were they all? Did they only begin to appear later on in the night, or was it simply a fluke? He wished he had a watch, but as such things would be useless-- damn it. He'd just have to ignore the phenomenon for now. Getting to the second floor was more important.

His thoughts were redirected to the mission at hand, however, when they approached the stairs. They were dark and narrow, and it would be harder to keep an eye on Lelouch or to get in front of him quickly if need be. Not to mention that Lelouch still had a bad leg. "Do you want me to go first?" he asked with a frown, shining his flashlight into the stairwell. He didn't see anything yet, but it was better to stray on the side of caution. The irony of the juxtaposition of that question with his last statement was completely lost on him.

He couldn't ignore the change in tone the topic of the stairs brought up, though, and with a small frown to match Suzaku's, he looked to the stairwell and tried to ignore the slow return of the trepidation he'd only just managed to shut out. There was only one creature that he'd received intelligence on that had appeared in these areas, but with so many others still unaccounted for-- "That may be for the best," he muttered, glancing away for a moment. For him to be this reliant on someone, even if that someone was Suzaku-- Lelouch still wasn't entirely comfortable with the idea. There was a practical reason for it, yes, but he'd never been fond of being reminded of his shortcomings. The obvious physical one had never truly bothered him, at least not in any way that inspired him to actually do something about it, but while Suzaku had missed the irony of his question, Lelouch hadn't. This fell rather explicitly under the purview of a knight, however, so if Suzaku felt the need to make any smart comments at all, Lelouch would be well within his rights to hit him for it.

"You'd have to dismiss me in the same way, by not being negligent anymore. And maybe I am," he added, throwing a hint of a smile over his shoulder even as he stepped toward the stairwell. "I told you, I like being a nanny." Giving in to Lelouch's accusations so easily meant ignoring the point, but it didn't matter so long as Lelouch knew Suzaku was going to keep looking after him. And so long as he stopped picking at the reasons Suzaku wanted to do so, because Suzaku didn't feel those had to be analyzed.
Suzaku then turned his full attention to proceeding up the stairs, sweeping the beam of his light across the steps methodically and shifting his grip on the bat. Inane chatter was all well and good, but he had to take this kind of thing seriously. And he was more than happy to, when Lelouch's safety was at stake.

Right back where he'd been earlier. Should've just asked Sora to meet him here instead of running all over the place first. He wasn't sure what he was going to do about his wager with Tyki since the cigarettes he'd been told to retrieve weren't there anymore, but there was time for that later.

He wondered if maybe he should say something to Allen, but there wasn't much to say besides complaining about what happened, and they should probably worry about getting to where they were going first.
Holding back a sigh, Sora took a left down the next hall.

They were getting further away from other people now. It would be more difficult to follow them at a close enough range to hear them and not get caught. He just needed to keep up an innocent appearance. He was just a lone patient wandering the halls, perhaps looking for equipment. If he was caught, well, he had plenty of excuses already forming.

"Really?" Yuuhi replied with one of his usual smiles. There were many ways to amplify a person's magic. He'd had a staff before, to boost his own casting, not that he used it often.
"I haven't heard of that before but it's interesting. What kind of magic do you use?" he asked as they made their way into the next hall and approached the stairs.

Funny how people tended to cluster in certain high-traffic areas, thought Indy. As soon as they'd gotten to the center of the hall, the other patients had all but vanished, and this end was completely deserted. Indy wasn't sure what that meant, again--were the doctor's offices not particularly profitable territory?
He got out the map: hanging an immediate left would take them to the ten offices. "Does your doctor smoke?" he asked Pierson.
no subject
"Since we're already here, we might be better off just checking all of the offices. I can't imagine none of the doctors here would have anything useful for bartering. And their files might be a little more informative..."

He aimed the flashlight down the side hall and, not seeing anything out of the ordinary, turned the corner.

At least Sasuke knew the aboveground part of the Institute well enough to travel through it without needing any guidance. He moved quickly towards the stairs, keeping track of Aidou's movement.

The growing familiarity made the circumstances of that night easier to bear; although he wasn’t sure he was even capable of regarding a non-vampire with a total lack of skepticism, Sasuke was at least someone he didn’t expect a surprise from.
Especially not then, anyway.
Aidou peered down the eastern corridor on his way by, then stepped into the confines of the stairwell. There was nothing that caught his attention.

"Are you informed as to how many supply closets there are, Mr. Brooklyn? Do you know how far from the stairs their location is?" Alfred continued to move forward at a decent pace as he clicked off his flashlight, electing to simply carry it for now and allow his eyes to adjust. There was no need to present himself as any more of a target than he already did.

Hardly a moment for sound or breath. Finished with ignoring and adjusting to his altered senses, Sebastian made use of all of them to take him to his Master's side.

And in no time (even if it had taken a little maneuvering to avoid people in the main hall), they were at the bottom of the stairs leading up to their destination. Okita paused for a moment, stepping toward the shadows even if there was no one here that he could immediately sense. He wanted to tell Ayumu exactly where they were going and what they needed in each place - and to that end, he had to pass something to her.
Reaching into his kimono, he pulled the pillowcase out and offered it to her. "Fourth door on the right and the one across from it are designated as general storage areas. You should be able to find something there that will serve you as a weapon, if not at least find some metal to use in the upcoming nights when we commission what you need. Following that, the last door on the right - I need to check patient storage." He paused and his tone changed and became lighter. "Is that alright?"
no subject
Ayumu nodded slightly, eyes unfocusing for a moment as she compared the instructions to the map she'd memorized and plotted the route they'd have to take, hopefully without running into anyone - or anything, remembering those oversized bats - on the way there. It wasn't terribly complicated, at least, and shouldn't take too long, even if she went slowly to be cautious.
"If you think you can keep up," she replied softly, her tone half teasing even if she did mean it, at least in part. She was in perfect health, after all, and trained to this.

Yuuhi scratches his head, "oh right, that's probably easier. The Sun Room gets a little nasty some nights." He'd experienced his share of it and had no desire to do so again.
"The bathrooms are probably best then. They're not too much further either. See, we'll make the best of this yet."

Empty. It seemed like that was going to be a common theme, though Jaime wasn't sure if that was a good or bad thing. While it did mean that he didn't have to worry too much about if they were going to be attacked, it also made him wonder why the hallway was empty.
"You've got your camera," he continued, flicking his flashlight so the light danced off the walls, floor, and ceiling (he'd seen too many monster movies where no one had thought to check the ceiling, and there was no way Jaime was going to be the kid eaten ten minutes in because he'd been too stupid to live) as he continued on. "So we should probably head back to where it's safe."
no subject
"So it's back to our rooms, then?" he continued, glancing at the first page of his journal. "I'm in... M54." He flipped back to his maps, trying to figure how exactly how to get to the patient quarters.
no subject
M54? A bit away from his room, but that hopefully wouldn't be too much trouble.
"Okay, this way then," he said, leading the way back towards the patient blocks.
