Night 41: West Wing South Hall 1-A

[from here]

No, really, where the fuck was everyone? Shit, someone needed to be out and about. The rescue-mission post had had a dozen or so eager-beaver volunteers, so where were they? He hoped they were around when he got back with the gear, because he wasn't planning to spend the night as a poor man's on-call EMT.

O.K., so he didn't have other plans beyond the appeal of going back to his room and seeing if falling asleep by design yielded better results. But the idea of turning around and heading upstairs himself was marginally less appealing than a solo night dive. I.e. absolutely dumbfuck moronic, given his current mental state. He could admit to something resembling shellshock, here in the dark, by himself. Nothing a few beers and a few good nights' sleep wouldn't cure, provided he could get them.

Few footsteps, fewer voices. Without having to wait on the more visually deprived, Scourge could make a quick in-and-out of the operation and be safe in his room by midnight. Someone passed by him in the darkness and Scourge held his breath for a bare moment, but the human didn't acknowledge his presence.

Good.

The halls marked the passage of a few people, but not a whole lot. It seemed like somewhere along the way, he’d gotten a head start on things. That was good if he wanted to miss some of the action, but despite everything, he felt better knowing which guards had been positioned where, who they were fighting, and what they were capable of, even if there was little he could do except stumble into a fight, like he had the night before, between Homura and Okita. He wasn’t exactly a force to be reckoned with anymore, so putting a total stop to that stuff wasn’t in his power.

Since he wasn’t exactly a bleeding heart, either (despite what Leon might think), he supposed the desire stemmed more from a kind of masochism than anything. Hmm.

Ren kept going down the corridor, staying away from the walls despite the fact they were about the only guides in the pitch black environment. Saying one could do something blindfolded was kind of a played out phrase, but in this case, it was true. He’d gone up and down these halls too many times for his liking, but the experience did its job.

Definitely still early. There should have been a lot more people here by now. Edgeworth sighed, thinking that maybe he should have insisted on working with Phoenix tonight, rather than going separately. The voice was getting more insistent, and he was, in truth, worried - why was it so insistent all of a sudden? If he were to run into Franziska, he could certainly handle her. And if he were to run into anyone else...

His stomach twisted. He didn't want to have to think of using the sword in his hand, but that was its purpose. He shook that thought aside and moved on.

Sure, Chidori probably wasn't going to think it was as awesome of an idea as Junpei did, but he was pretty sure she'd humor him. Maybe she'd find his actions really cute or something. Chidori was allowed to think that Junpei jumping on a totally awesome weapon idea was cute.

But only her.

Now he was back to imagining a monster devouring Adachi and making his life easier. He hoped they weren't shadows, in that case. Shadows seemed to be fond of the guy, go figure. It needed to be something mean and nasty with a mouth big enough to swallow him whole.

Of course knowing his luck he'd probably run into it first.

The empty hallway seemed to stretch on an on, an illusion enhanced by the darkness. Hitsugaya also heard footsteps in the distance but didn't see anyone, so he couldn't tell if they were friend or foe.

Finally, he came out into the hall his nurse had taken him down. Still.

Maybe if he was lucky, he'd run into Hanamura. He could take care of the kid here and now, and not have anything to worry about, right? Would he even be stupid enough to tell anyone, now that Adachi had made his threat? And how did he even know? The brat had never explained that.

Maybe he'd get another chance to ask him sometime.

Normally, Kanji had no problems with the dark or anything like that, but a few minutes of walking through this and he was starting to get the creeps. He wasn't the biggest fan of hospitals to begin with. A pitch black hospital was even worse.

Plus there was that whole monster thing to think about. It kind of made the dark work when you thought there might actually be something out there ready to pounce on you. Even without a weapon, he was pretty sure he could beat anything down, but the flashlight wasn't really all that helpful. At this rate, he probably wouldn't even see anything until it was like right on top of him.

Alright. Get a grip, already. Naoto and Yousuke were probably there already and wondering where the hell he was. If he had this right, he was supposed to go down this way, go around the wall to some other hallway, and then go into one of the doors on the left. Not that hard. At least, he hoped he had it right. It'd be a pain if he got lost and had to wander around in the dark like this.

There were a couple more people out in the hallway by the time the two of them reached it, and Yue's steps slowed for a moment as he cast a wary eye around for any sign of a threat. Hopefully it was still early enough in the evening that none of the monsters were out just yet - and that none of the less-savory patients were likewise out and about.

He glanced at Touya as though making certain the other was still with him, though it was unlikely he'd be unaware. Yukito had calmed him down, but if he realized that Yue had deliberately been hiding Sakura's presence until he'd had a chance to make certain of it - well. It would likely put a damper on their working relationship.

There were a few people here, but no one standing around and talking, which is more what Juri expected of a hallway. She wished she had her sword from school with her to clear the way. Many people found her scowling attitude perfectly intimidating without it, but it would give her more confidence here in the dark.

She kept an eye out for the door that she was certain would lead into one of the men's dormitories. When she saw it, she opened it with her free hand and entered.

After last night, this hallway and the next were forever ruined for the Nobody. They would always bring the urge to sing.

...which reminded him; an escape route would need to be planned if Grell and Celes became inclined to force him into singing along with them. Another long hallway. There didn't seem to be much here, but Nathan remembered coming this way. These hallways were terribly boring. Each one looked the same - bare walls, ugly floors, dirt, grime, the occasional blood patch (dried, even; so unsanitary). There were people, there weren't people, they moved like changing decorations, but most of them weren't even worth the time of day. They all wore the same uniforms, so it wasn't even as interesting as wandering the London streets.

At least here smelled better.

This time there seemed to be a few more people lingering around or trying to figure out where to go. Considering a new batch of patients had just come in, that was to be expected. Guy kept an eye out for bright red hair, but he wasn't going to get his hopes up about that. The chances of running into Luke by coincidence weren't very high.

He paused, turning back toward Claude as he glanced around the hall. "We were supposed to meet somewhere around here, right?" They hadn't been too specific about the place, but he was pretty sure that Dias' room was in the nearest block, which should mean that they couldn't miss him.

[identity profile] full-score.livejournal.com 2009-06-01 08:51 am (UTC)(link)
So Okita was the one who had been trying to help Guy get a sword. That would make sense, them being roommates and all. Claude remembered when he'd met the man during arts and crafts -- it'd been a pleasant conversation, and Claude had learned how to do some origami from him. The memory brought a small smile to his face, and he tried not to think of how Okita had cautioned him to stay away from Takasugi, the man they had helped save a couple nights ago.

"That's fine!" he told him. "Just let me or Leon know as soon as you find out, okay?"

When Guy asked about the meeting place, Claude fell silent and glanced around too. "I guess so," he said slowly. "Dias' room is in that block over there, so maybe it wouldn't hurt if we took a quick peak."

With that said, he headed over to the hallway leading into said block.

Before, it had always been the stairs that he had met people by. Now that had been replaced by the recreational field. He liked having the opportunity to go outside, but it wasn't quite as fun when there were monsters roaming about and it was hard to see where he was going.

Still, Momo kept giving him more chances, and he was going to do his best to not put that to waste. He wasn't sure how well the rest of the club had been doing with their assignments, but he didn't want to be the weakest link if he could help it. That wasn't his style.

Not seeing anyone familiar around, Sora kept going without delay.

The further he traveled into the institution, the more each hallway started to resemble the next, reminding him of his own maze metaphor. Perhaps it had been designed like this on purpose to add more confusion during the night shift.

Luckily, Ciel could trace his own path on the hand drawn map, following along with each new door that he opened. He only stopped to observe the people around him, trying to take note of anyone suspicious -- then again, everyone looked suspicious to him at this point.

Deciding to move on again, he headed for the next doorway.

Now Youko had a choice again--keep heading north, or check the hall to the left. Since she had no idea how the room numbering in the male areas worked--there were clearly a lot more men than women here, so there had to be more rooms for men--to keep going and just hope it was the right choice seemed really unwise.

By the time Ayumu reached the hall outside the first men's block it seemed that more people were out wandering - or perhaps it was just that this hallway was more popular. At any rate, there were some who had paused here, whether waiting for someone else or stopping to speak to their companions.

She was careful to avoid the illumination cast by the lights her fellow travelers carried, not wishing to be seen, as she moved quickly and quietly along the hall toward the next block.
