Night 41: M01-10 Hallway

[in M7]

Hanatarou had managed to choke down about half of his dinner before finally giving up and pushing the tray away. With a glance back at Sora to make sure his roommate wasn't looking, he'd opened the closet door to get his uniform and started to change; he thought that if he was going to act like a healer he could at least look like one. Right?

He was just settling his pack in place when the intercom went off, and he gave a startled glance back toward the speaker. The announcement was creepy and disturbing as usual, but considering that he was already a bundle of nerves as it was...well, there wasn't really a visible impact on him. There were supposed to be two people - two strangers - coming by to be healed, and he hoped that he'd be able to help them.

The healer paused for a moment, staring blankly at the imitation Hisagomaru in the corner of the closet before finally deciding to leave it there for the time being. He'd have to see how he felt after trying to heal two people before deciding what he was going to do next.

Nataku watched the burn heal like he could decipher the secret through pure observation. He knew he couldn't do the same thing even if Hana broke it down for him, but he still wanted to learn about it.

He kept a careful eye on Hana too, remembering how his own power taxed his body when he used the little that remained. It was pretty admirable to make that sacrifice for people he barely knew. Somehow, he didn't think the other boy was after the compensation either.

While Kenren grabbed the tissues, Nataku fetched a glass of water also leftover from dinner and offered it to Hanatarou.

"You should rest as long as you need to. We're not in a hurry to be anywhere."

Kenren kept an eye on Hanatarou as he staunched the bleeding, wanting to make sure that he really was alright. He knew that healing took energy for the people here who could do it and he didn't like the thought of the kid getting injured because of it. "You sure?" he asked seriously, giving Hanatarou a concerned look.

Well, he didn't look like he was immediately about to pass out or anything, so Kenren let it go and moved away, grabbing his jacket and slipping it over his shoulders. The skins still twinged a little, but definitely much better. "You did a good job. I'm very grateful to you."

Nataku was a little uncertain as well. He really didn't want Hana to overexert himself, but if he was sure that he was alright...

"Just a second." Nataku sat back down and eased his arm out of the sling. He flinched a little. Right, fracture. Unwrapping the bandages and keeping his arm still proved to be a bit more of a challenge - to the point that he couldn't quite manage it on his own. "I'll..." Help?

"It's pretty good of you to keep doing it then," Kenren said, going to sprawl on the other bed as Nataku prepared to take his turn. Kenren knew people who would probably refuse to help anyone if it meant inconveniencing themselves.

"You need any help, Nataku?" he asked, giving the younger god a concerned look as he tried to unwrap the bandages. He wasn't sure how badly his arm was injured but there was no way that it couldn't hurt.

[identity profile] stringless-doll.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
He listened to the exchange between Hanatarou and Kenren silently, smiling a little. He liked Hanatarou. There were a lot of gods who would complain endlessly about the slightest inconvenience, especially if it was for the sake of helping someone other than themselves.

When Hana's fingers rested lightly on his arm, he stopped trying to unwrap the bandages and looked up at the other boy. "...Oh." His face felt warm again but he smiled. "Ok, thanks." He just let his arm rest against his knee. "Is this alright?"

As long as it was stationary, it didn't hurt as much. He glanced over at Kenren too. The look on his face made Nataku pause a moment, but he shook his head. "I'm alright. Don't worry."

[identity profile] opposingheaven.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Kenren couldn't help but grin when Nataku told him not to worry. "If you're sure," he agreed. He would worry anyway. Nataku had spent enough time being used as a kid that he deserved someone to worry about him. Kenren would gladly take up that mantle. He wasn't certain that Hanatarou didn't need someone to worry about him too.

It was his turn to watch curiously as Hanatarou began the healing. The green glow again and although he couldn't see any change, he knew what the feeling of it would be like now.

[identity profile] stringless-doll.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Nataku knew he would worry anyway, and though he couldn't really say he minded he tried not to show any further signs of discomfort. That was just the way Kenren was. Goku seemed to attract people who were... different, even rough on the outside, but good at heart.

That wasn't necessarily true for all of them though. Had he been wrong to judge Sanzo so soon, or was it Goku who had misjudged this time? Neither of them had been trying to kill last night. Maybe he should try once more. Later. It could simply be the strange sort of peace that had settled over him.

Nataku sat very still while Hanatarou worked, not wanting to disrupt his concentration and cause him further pain. Like Kenren, he couldn't see exactly what was being done but he could feel the pain fading as his arm healed. As curious as he was about the light, he kept an eye on the healer, too. Doing so much in one night couldn't be easy.

[identity profile] opposingheaven.livejournal.com 2009-06-12 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"Crap," kenren swore, moving quickly once he saw Hanatarou begin to list and fall towards Nataku, eyes closed. Damn it! he'd known that Nataku should have gone first! He went over to Hanatarou's side, wrapping an arm around his shoulder before he could fall any further. The last thing Kenren wanted was for him to fall to the ground and give himself a concussion.

He looked up at Nataku apologetically. "Help me get him laid down?"

[identity profile] stringless-doll.livejournal.com 2009-06-13 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
It was just as well that Kenren had caught him first. Nataku's arm didn't hurt at all anymore, but he was careful to favour it a little as he helped Kenren lay Hanatarou down on the bed. He wasn't going to undo all the work the healer had done just moments after he tired himself out.

Nataku shifted to sit on the edge of the bed and touched his shoulder. "Hanatarou?"

He was still breathing, obviously, so he was probably ok...right? He bit the inside of his lip and looked up at Kenren. "What should we do? Is he going to be ok?"

[identity profile] opposingheaven.livejournal.com 2009-06-13 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Kenren checked Hanatarou over, but he didn't seem to be inured. Didn't even seem to be unconcious in the tru sense of the word. Just very deeply asleep. He laughed softly, shaking his head as he pulled the covers over his sleeping form. "I guess the healing took more out of him than he guessed it would," he said with a touch of amusement. "I guess we could leave him a note? Don't know how long he'll take to wake up."

[identity profile] stringless-doll.livejournal.com 2009-06-14 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
He watched Kenren check Hanatarou over, but he really seemed to be ok. Just sleeping. Nataku reached over again and tried to push his mouth closed with a finger. "He's going to wake up in a river of drool."

They really did have things to do, as Kenren gently reminded him, so it was probably best that they got going before night ended. There were some drawbacks to making plans. "Is it ok to leave him alone like this?"

[identity profile] opposingheaven.livejournal.com 2009-06-15 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Kenren laughed softly, shaking his head. "Looks that way, but I think he'll survive the drool." He thought for a moment when Nataku asked if it was okay to leave him alone. "Well, monsters never seem to come into the bedrooms so he should be fine." Still, he didn't like leaving him alone like that after what he'd done to help them. "We could always wait for him to wake up, I guess?" he offered with a grin and then shook Hanatarou's shoulder gently.

[identity profile] stringless-doll.livejournal.com 2009-06-15 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
"I dunno, he could drown in it." Nataku replied, mock-serious. He hadn't brought any pens with him, forgoing them in favor of scalpels but he fetched one from a nearby desk and started doodling on Hanatarou's cheek while he slept.

"I know we have things to do tonight." He replied, focused on his drawing. "I just don't want him to wake up alone. Not after he worked so hard. He should at least know it was dumb to push himself until he passed out." And that they appreciated it regardless. And that they saw him as more than just a useful thing. Maybe they didn't need to say thank you again, but Nataku believed in deeds over words - the least he could do was wait.

[identity profile] opposingheaven.livejournal.com 2009-06-15 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Kenren snorted at that and then looked thoughtful. "You're right We can't have the healer drowning while we're on watch," he said with exaggerated seriousness. He leaned over a little and grinned when he saw what Nataku was doodling on Hanatarou's face. It also reminded him never to fall asleep anywhere near the kid, although maybe him and Okita could team up and get Homura sometime...

"You're right," kenren agreed easily, perching on the end of the bed. It would be pretty crappy to just leave him sleeping like this.

[identity profile] stringless-doll.livejournal.com 2009-06-15 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Nataku turned to smile briefly at Kenren. "Thanks."

He paused when Hanatarou started to wake up. He'd just put the finishing touches on the last doodle anyway - more accurately, the last in a small cluster of mushrooms.

Though he angled the pen away from Hanatarou's face in case he decided to sit up suddenly, he didn't even try to hide what he'd been doing. It wasn't like he could pull his hand out of Hanatarou's without the boy noticing. "Hey, Hanatarou. Feeling better now?" He tapped the healer's cheek lightly with the back of the pen. "You were asleep so long mushrooms grew on your face."

[identity profile] opposingheaven.livejournal.com 2009-06-15 10:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Welcome back to the land of the conscious," Kenren said with a grin at the boy as he woke up. "We decided that we couldn't just leave you here," he explained and then glanced over at the door. "So we're commandeering you for the night." He seemed like he'd be fun to have along and it seemed that whoever he'd been supposed to meet wasn't coming considering it was getting late already.

[identity profile] stringless-doll.livejournal.com 2009-06-16 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
"They're not here, and nightshift is going to be over soon... so you can come with us if you want." Nataku replied...despite the fact that they were probably going to commandeer him anyway. "It's better than sitting alone in the dark all night."

He frowned a little. "And I didn't get to say thanks for healing my arm. So," He prodded Hanatarou in the forehead with the back of the pen. "Next time don't push yourself so hard you pass out, ok? If you do it again you might wake up with a whole forest of mushrooms on your face."

[identity profile] opposingheaven.livejournal.com 2009-06-16 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah," Kenren agreed, nodding at Nataku. "It's getting pretty late so I'm guessing they got held up or something." Or maybe disappeared but he wasn't about to vocalise that thought. Hanatarou was skittish enough as it was and Kenren didn't want to make him any worse. "So you should come with us. We can always use another person and we'd feel bad about just leaving you here on your own." He was worried that he'd somehow manage to get eaten even in the relative safety of the bedroom.
