Night 41: M51-60 Hallway

Recluse had used his uneventful dinner as time to hammer out and sharpen a new blade for Scourge, and do maintenance on the rest of his own weapons, then changing into his black Arachnos officer's uniform, ready for the night. Then, it had simply been a matter of waiting, impatiently as always, for the doors to unlock.

At least that pompous fool didn't lecture them all that long-windedly tonight. He slipped out into the hallway as soon as his door was unlocked, red eyes glowing dimly in the pitch black corridor.

"They were in my closet, as always." Valyn sat on the edge of his bed to pull on his boots - which he generally didn't bother with, but considering they were going Outside.... He ran a hand through his hair and looked up at Keman.

"No plan other than go over the wall and see what's out there." Having no map and very little idea of what was over there, Valyn didn't think there was much more they could do.

"We're just going to have to be very careful of you outside, that's all."

Keman groaned. "Don't remind me. I thought virginity was supposed to be a virtue!" Or it was in some cultures. Elves certainly seemed to have a strange double-standard about it, just like they did about everything else. Boys were encouraged to try out their fathers' harems to become "real men," but if a girl were to become a "real woman" before her wedding she faced a bleak future indeed. Once again, Keman was very glad that he came from a species that didn't really give a damn one way or the other. Certainly, monogamy was never very high on any dragon's list.

Once Valyn was finished with his boots, Keman offered him a hand up. His friend didn't really need it, but he figured it would be a nice gesture. "Ready to go?"

"Only in women," Valyn said, accepting the hand and standing. "And if we find tonight that it is a problem large enough to prevent our progress..." He shrugged. "Well, it isn't as though we can't figure something out."

Hopefully it wouldn't be a problem. If they were fast, and if there were enough other targets out and about....

No sense in worrying over it now though. Valyn took stock of himself once more, making sure he had his weapon and the small stone that Renji had acquired for him all that time ago. He figured he'd need a magical boost today.

"As ready as we'll ever be, I suppose."

"We can't figure something out?" Keman repeated, eyebrow raised. He was no expert in matters of the heart, but that almost sounded like an extremely awkward pick up. He snickered. "Sorry, Valyn, I don't think you're my type."

The dragon was still laughing lightly as he opened the door, and he wasn't sure if he actually found the idea of Valyn potentially trying to seduce him funny or if he was just doing it out of nerves. The virgin-eating monsters didn't frighten him half as much as what potentially lay beyond the Institute's walls.
