Night 41: M51-60 Hallway

Recluse had used his uneventful dinner as time to hammer out and sharpen a new blade for Scourge, and do maintenance on the rest of his own weapons, then changing into his black Arachnos officer's uniform, ready for the night. Then, it had simply been a matter of waiting, impatiently as always, for the doors to unlock.

At least that pompous fool didn't lecture them all that long-windedly tonight. He slipped out into the hallway as soon as his door was unlocked, red eyes glowing dimly in the pitch black corridor.

A game? Martin Landel wanted to play a game with them? Edgeworth glared hard at the intercom as he finished tying his cravat. What, so you think we're pawns in your game of chess? That you can just move us about as you like?

He let out a hard, exasperated sigh as he gathered his belongings and stepped into the hall. I am not your pawn. And I won't be moved around on a chessboard at anyone else's whim.

He leaned against the wall for just a moment, gathering his thoughts while he waited on Kunzite to drop off his sword.

"You look troubled," came the voice that walked up to the fancily-dressed man leaning on the wall. Aside from this, Kunzite walked up to Edgeworth quietly, forgoing his bow as he held out the sword's hilt. "Has something happened?"

"Ah, good evening," Edgeworth said, trying to regain his composure. "It's nothing to be concerned about, Kunzite. I'm just displeased at that rather obnoxious intercom announcement a moment ago. I don't like the sound of it," he went on to explain.

There was something else nagging at the back of his head, but he chalked that up to simple nerves. It wasn't anything, and as such, wasn't worth bringing up.

The...ah, yes, the ubiquitous commentary provided by the doctor and his underlings when evening falls upon the facility. Kunzite had not paid it much mind at first, but no doubt it was the cause of his own feelings of heightened unease. "There was, indeed, something...distressing about the way those words were delivered. It's perhaps best to be on our guards even more so than usual tonight."

"At any rate, Mr. Edgeworth, I shall leave you to whatever plans you may have tonight. Good luck, and take care." With that, he quickly bowed, turned, and departed the hallway.

"You, too," Edgeworth said, taking the rapier and flashlight in hand. He ducked back into the room momentarily to replace its batteries, and then left the hall for good.
