Night 40: Main Hall 1-East
[from here]
He became more cautious upon entering this hallway, aware that he was more likely to encounter some kind of opponent here. Scanning the area ahead carefully, Itachi focused his every sense on detecting other presences before they attacked. The hallway he needed to go down was just to the left, but it would be wise to scan the entire hallway before exposing his back.

If the section of the hall nearest the Sun Room had been sparsely populated, this section was all but deserted. Tony felt the hair on the back of his neck prickle, as without his conscious mind's permission his subconscious decided to assign sinister meaning to the emptiness. Without the glow of several other flashlights, the hall seemed darker, more thickly populated with shadows. He picked up his pace, making for the stairwell he knew lay next to the waiting room flanking the front entrance.

Did Sasuke know he was here? Probably not, because he wasn't screaming and running down the hallway. And yet, something seemed to be -- yes, even from here Itachi could recognize the motion that was a swing of a sword. There was something else there, and if Sasuke used his Sharingan to fight it, he would see Itachi's chakra. It was unlikely, but he couldn't risk it. He would fight Sasuke if he had to, but he had no desire to do so here and now. That would only be counterproductive for both of them, especially if Sasuke fought him on the same level he had a few days ago. Therefore, Itachi left.

So far so good. Luckily, the doctor's offices weren't too far into the building. No need to go any further than a couple of halls, and he hadn't seen too many dangerous beings or creatures around this area. Knock on wood.
There weren't even too many patients out yet, and a quick glance over his shoulder was all he needed to know Peter had followed him. He couldn't let his guard down. That's when they always got you in the horror movies.

Peter had been curious about how the two had met, so he figured he might as well ask as they made their ways through the halls. "So... how did you and Nate become friends?" he asked, and it was only once he'd spoken the name that he realized that it could be short for "Nathan."
It wasn't like he had ever used that name with his brother--apparently only the younger one ended up with a nickname. That seemed vaguely unfair, but "Nate" definitely didn't fit Nathan, anyway.
Somehow, he had still ended up thinking too hard about it. Sighing to himself, Peter pulled ahead to move them into the hall with the doctor's offices.

As Peter had guessed, the hallway was empty. Keeping his flashlight held in front of him, the first thing he did was look for the stairs. He was pretty sure there were some around here, even though he'd never actually used them...
As it turned out, they were right across from the hallway that they had just left, and as his flashlight revealed the stairwell, Peter nodded in their direction. "Well, that easy enough."

He made sure to lead the way up, more worried about something coming from above than from the rooms below they'd already been to.

Slowing down a bit once he'd gone passed the sun room, he tried to remain alert for anyone following him. It was very possible there would be someone else posted near the kitchen and dining area again, so he would ahve to avoid that place at all costs.
There were stairs just up ahead, leading to uncharted territory. Takasugi couldn't recall if he had been up them before or not, but it was definitely worth exploring, especially if he could find any of the objects he had in mind to retrieve this evening.

Touya could have sworn he'd seen a flight of stairs when he'd come out of the Sun Room today. He was a bit more alert as of late, so he was starting to pick up on things like access points and whatnot.
He checked the hallway briefly, then signaled to Yue that he felt it was clear.

Sasuke sped down the hall at a pace that might have been inadvisable were it not early enough in the night that he'd spotted only Itachi's chakra signal in this direction.
This was going to be the first time he'd face Itachi without having been interfered with by the Institute beforehand -- and even if he didn't die this time, Itachi was going to see the means of his death.

This part of the hallway was considerably less populated, even though Artemis could still hear the sounds of the fight going on at the end of the hallway. He did his best to keep up with Badou as they made the ever-familiar trek to the doctors' hallway. All the running had worn him out just a little, but he tried not to show it.

Too bad that didn't seem to be doing much for Artemis. He must really regret skipping PE. Badou slowed down further as they turned the corner...

They had lucked out; this stretch of the hallway was almost empty. Meche was getting into really unfamiliar territory now, but they were running out of hallway, so it must be time to cut over.
"Hanatarou told me you can identify poisonous plants," she said now that things were a little quieter. "Is it a part of your training, or a special ability?" She was definitely working under the assumption that he was a death god now--that sword had clinched it.

"It was part of my training for a few years," he said, pausing slightly as he judged the two hallways that both lead to their inevitable goal. "I haven't had to use the skill in a while, but you don't forget what plants can kill you." He was lucky that these were familiar plants. People from other worlds ... he could only imagine what trouble they would have, if the need ever arose.
Kira slipped into the nearest hallway, which only had a few people in it. Soon they'd be at the greenhouse.

Ophelia followed the stream of people heading east down the main hallway. From what she remembered of those maps she and Kio had gone over, the greenhouse was somewhere on the eastern side of the institute, right? As they neared the end of the hallway, she saw some of the other patients turning left into another hallway. In the dark, she couldn't quite see where the main hallway ended, although she assumed there were stairs there, same as on the other end of the hall.
"Down that way to go outside?" she asked Tsubaki quickly for confirmation, finally letting go of the girl's arm.

But… she wanted to say. But is it worth it to turn our backs? It wasn’t like this was the first time she’d felt like she were abandoning others to some extent during these night time episodes. Missions would still be waiting for them, but people‘s lives, those were… There was a fine line between making necessary sacrifices for the bigger picture and needing to stop for a moment to focus on the small pictures that made up the whole, a line she was all too familiar with. Who knew if the people left behind in the hall would need some serious support soon rather than later…
In the end, she didn’t say anything. Ophelia was clearly uninterested in stopping, and it was awkward enough being led (more like dragged) down the hall. It was too late to risk going back now.
“Ah, yes, that’s right,” said Tsubaki, pitching her voice low. She resisted the urge to rub the spot where Ophelia’s hand had been. “Both lead out to the greenhouse.”
A greater sense of urgency seemed to have snuck into their actions after rushing down the hall together. Tsubaki wasn’t about to protest--she just turned her gaze on the closest hallway, inwardly readying herself to continue. They couldn’t let their guard down anywhere in the building at night.
