Day 40: Lunch

*hobble wobble*

"Damn that SCOURGE!" Starscream cried out, the slowly-filling cafeteria producing a jarring echo of his raspy voice. His limping, already bad enough from not knowing how to properly use his crutches, was now exacerbated from the injuries he'd received the shift prior. Despite the gauges in his non-casted leg so lovingly provided by the aforementioned 'patient', Starscream could still put some weight on it, but not so much that he could really stop and rest; relieving the soreness under his arms was out of the question. The nurse that walked behind him with his tray, already upset at having to deal with yet another troublesome inmate, was growing rather impatient as his charge slowly made his way down the food line.

"Just...give me a standard serving of the aquatic creature's flesh, some of those fried potato slices, two bananas, and three bottles of juice," Starscream sighed, his anger from just a moment ago assuaged by the physical exertion needed to move the way he did. "I'm going to sit down here...bring it to me when you're done."

He was hardly surprised to find that one of the bananas was completely bruised along its inner curve, or that the handful of 'chips' on his plate were all on the small side. Tired and frustrated as he was, however, he could barely muster a 'damned flesh-creature' before moving his fingers to the plate, picking one of the longer 'chips' and shoving it into his mouth listlessly.

There was an unusually high concentration of sodium chloride crystals on it. Of COURSE.

It was a bit surprising when Harley suddenly sat across from him, but Jiraiya certainly wasn't going to complain about a pretty lady deciding to grace him with her presence. What was even more surprisingly was that she had blond hair and blue eyes. It was rare back home, but there seemed to be quite a few people who had those sorts of traits here.

He did however grin at her friendly like. "Ha, it's better than rations, at least. And way better than cafeteria food. I haven't been in school for probably longer than you've been alive, but I still remember some of that stuff."

Jiraiya wrinkled his nose at the thought. At least it had been good most of the time. There had always been exceptions, however...

"Anyways, name's Jiraiya. You?"

Rations? Ouch. What kind of cheap gang was he in? Then again, rations made her think of the military more than a group of thugs. This was already interesting. And hey, look at that, he was actually smiling. Harley's luck must have been improving if she was actually meeting some decent people today.

She flashed a big grin right back at him. "Wow. You actually that much older than me? Pretty impressive." Heck, she didn't meet many gangsters over forty, unless they were... 'upper management.'

"Call me Harley. Normally, the grub here's pretty good, but don't think I'm in the mood to munch on somethin' that smells like it rotted in somethin's stomach first." What a lovely conversation this was for lunch. "I think I'd rather have the rations. ...Though what the heck do you do that you get stuck with leftovers?"

Not only was she pretty, but she was reminding him of another blond he knew. Of course, Naruto would be annoyed that a girl reminded Jiraiya of him, but her energy level was similar. His student was a bit of a girl sometimes, anyways.

Jiraiya laughed at her comment about the fish and 'leftovers'. "It could always be worse, though--at least it only smells like that."

"As for the rations, I'm a ninja," Jiriaya shrugged good-naturedly. "Although, I'll definitely confess that, when we could, we always caught game instead. But with some missions, there isn''t time for that, or lighting a campfire was too dangerous."
