Day 40: Recreational Field

Kio's breakfast ended on a much happier note than it had started. However, for once the announcement truly surprised him. He blinked as his nurse came to pick him up. Recreational Field? But.. but if they had a greenhouse, he wanted to go there. The prospect of gardening was a truly liberating one, an island of joy in this hellhole. He thought about going to the Sun Room and lying down, but it occurred to him that he hadn't had proper fresh air since being here. With a cheery goodbye wave to Honey, he followed his torturer outside.

It was much better than he had expected. The sun wasn't too hot (what time of the year were they in, anyway?), so he walked slowly along the walls, fascinated by the size of the field. He wondered if Sou-chan was alright. He hadn't even checked the board. Well, if Soubi wanted to apologize, Kio would be willing to listen. The place was so crisp and clean. He had to think if anyone had ever gone over the walls. What was out there? Freedom? Or a different sort of monster?

Leaning against one of the walls, Kio took as much advantage of the sun as he could. He desperately wanted a lollipop. One was quietly nestled in his pocket, but he would need to wait until the nurses were busy with other patients before he tried anything. Soubi had gone to some trouble to get them, the least he could do was make sure they didn't get confiscated. So with bated breath, Kio waited for a shift in the mood. He was, for once, content. Not happy, but not going crazy either.

[Sou-chan! Team Loveless deploy!]

It had taken Touya quite a while to convince his nurse that he was up for playing soccer with his injured shoulder (which he'd stopped asking the nurse questions about, because all she said were things like 'Oh you poor dear!' and the like. It pissed him off, seriously!). Arm still in a sling, Touya jogged over to where Yuki was standing with two other guys.

One of them was his roommate, but which one was it? He eyed them both for just a moment before speaking.

"Sorry I'm late. My nurse thought I'd have a problem playing while injured," he explained, indicating the sling. "I'm Kinomoto Touya. Yuki's friend."

Ken snorted. His nurse had quickly learned that you did not try to stop him from playing soccer. No matter how injured or uninjured he was.

"Nice to meet you, Kinomoto. I'm Hidaka Ken." He flashed a grin at the other boy. "I'm Yukito's roommate."

Well, that would answer that question.

"Good to meet everyone. Sanada Akihiko - met Yukito the other day and he mentioned you all might be playing. I saw the bulletin this morning, so." He grinned at everyone in turn. "So, are we ready to get this thing started?"

Yukito's expression brightened even more (if that was possible) when he saw Touya's approach, though he did give a rather concerned look toward the sling his friend wore. "I'm glad everyone could make it," he said, passing the ball over to Ken. His roommate had been the most enthusiastic about the idea, after all, so might as well let him start.

"Do we want to split up in teams? Try for as much of a real game as we can get, since...we're short on players?" Best to blame it on that, rather than the fact that two members of the group probably should be taking it easy. Neither Ken nor Touya would probably like that suggestion.

So it was him. Hidaka. A small vein went in Touya's forehead at the word 'roommate'. This was the person Yuki woke up next to, ate with, talked with... Nevermind that Touya did much the same thing during the day, except he didn't wake up next to himwhichwasreallyimportantandwhatwashethinking?!

"Un," Touya grunted. "Nice to meet you Hidaka," he gave Ken a nod that looked more like he was trying to crack his neck. He looked at Akihiko and nodded as well--a bit more fluidly. "Nice to meet you as well, Sanada-san."

Touya put his hand in his pocket and nodded to Yukito. "We should play two on two, maybe?" Which would mean that there was a chance that Yuki would want to play on Ken's team. God, why was he so upset over something so trivial as who Yuki teamed up with? He should be happy that Yuki was making friends, since neither of them seemed to have made very many over their high school years.

Still. It was hard not to be jealous of Yuki's new friends when Touya didn't have any.

"Works for me. And if more people join in, they can just hop on a team." Ken shrugged, giving Touya a sidelong look as he caught the ball with his foot. Someone wasn't happy. "Sanada, how about you and me team up?"

Ken had his suspicions. Touya had gotten on-edge when he'd mentioned that he was Yukito's roommate. Enough for Ken to easily read, anyway.

Akihiko picked up on the tension there and nodded, giving Ken a thumbs-up sign. He certainly didn't want to cause any hard feelings, and it didn't particularly matter which side he was on, anyway. "Sounds like a plan, and yeah - whoever else shows up can just pick a side and go."

"All right, then. Are we ready?"

"Sure, that's fine." Yukito glanced around at the others and just smiled, apparently oblivious to any potential tension in the air. He didn't particularly care whose team he was on during the game, he just wanted to get some exercise time in before they were inevitably herded back into the building again.

Although now that they were both in the same place, he did have to wonder at how similar Ken and Touya sounded, but shrugged it off again after only a moment's consideration. It wasn't really that important.

"C'mon, Touya, it'll be just like after-school practice," he observed, with a slightly mischievous grin toward his friend. "We'll show them how it's done."

It really was amazing how Yukito could instantaneously put Touya in a good mood. The young man's expression instantly became more relaxed (which was good, considering he was returning Ken's sidelong look with a disgruntled and suspicious glare), and he nodded.

"Y-yeah, let's just hope you don't spontaneously fall asleep on the field this time," Touya said with a wink. "Or I don't, for that matter.

"Anyway," he nodded to Akihiko and Ken. "Let's get started. You guys can take possession first," he said, turning and giving Yuki his version of the mischievous grin. "I don't think we'll mind, right Yuki?"
