Day 40: Recreational Field
Kio's breakfast ended on a much happier note than it had started. However, for once the announcement truly surprised him. He blinked as his nurse came to pick him up. Recreational Field? But.. but if they had a greenhouse, he wanted to go there. The prospect of gardening was a truly liberating one, an island of joy in this hellhole. He thought about going to the Sun Room and lying down, but it occurred to him that he hadn't had proper fresh air since being here. With a cheery goodbye wave to Honey, he followed his torturer outside.
It was much better than he had expected. The sun wasn't too hot (what time of the year were they in, anyway?), so he walked slowly along the walls, fascinated by the size of the field. He wondered if Sou-chan was alright. He hadn't even checked the board. Well, if Soubi wanted to apologize, Kio would be willing to listen. The place was so crisp and clean. He had to think if anyone had ever gone over the walls. What was out there? Freedom? Or a different sort of monster?
Leaning against one of the walls, Kio took as much advantage of the sun as he could. He desperately wanted a lollipop. One was quietly nestled in his pocket, but he would need to wait until the nurses were busy with other patients before he tried anything. Soubi had gone to some trouble to get them, the least he could do was make sure they didn't get confiscated. So with bated breath, Kio waited for a shift in the mood. He was, for once, content. Not happy, but not going crazy either.

But for now all that Sync could do was follow through the same daily routine, glancing over at the door when he heard it swing open before revealing his nurse. Of course, he didn't need her telling him to get out of bed, already hopping off the edge and toeing on his slippers before following her out.
It looked as if he'd missed breakfast, which was a shame, but the teen figured that he could make up for that when lunch arrived. And so he followed his nurse while she lead him outside, squinting his eyes the moment he stepped onto the grass. Despite everything Sync had to say that this all felt rather pleasant; after all, it'd been a while since he got a real workout, and he could spend this shift stretching out his muscles.
Or at least, that was what he'd planned before he saw Claude.
It hadn't been too hard to spot the aforementioned blond sitting on his grass while doing, what appeared to be, some simple stretches. Sync knew he could never waste an opportunity to make the latter miserable, and so it didn't take much contemplation for him to quietly make his way over to where Claude was sitting. He carefully settled himself onto the grass right behind the blond, reaching forward to cover Claude's eyes with his hands. Sync didn’t even give the latter the satisfaction of hinting whom it was, quietly waiting for him to make a move.

Startled, he paused mid-stretch. He honestly had no idea who this was, though it was obvious they were kind of young. His first thought might have been Leon if it weren't for the fact he probably considered himself above these sorts of games. Anise didn't really seem like the sort, either -- and even if she was, he doubted she'd specifically single him. Then there was Kagura -- a wild card he'd just met. She seemed like enough of an odd ball to do something weird like this, but, on the other hand, there was no way to know for sure.
"Um, you're supposed to say 'guess who'," he remarked after a moment. Not that he went out of his way to play childish games like these, but a person ought to at least do it right.

Of course, it only became even more tempting when Claude pointed out the 'rules' for this game. The God-General would've rolled his eyes, but instead he laughed softly at the latter's words before whispering out loud enough for only Claude to hear.
"Guess who..."
no subject
"You!" he spat with such venom that it might as well been some foul swear word. Just the idea of Sync even touching his face like this was enough to make his stomach turn and his heart pound in his ears. Just what was he getting at, anyway?!
Instinctively, Claude tried to pull away from the replica's grasp. He knew he couldn't raise too much of a fuss without the nurses getting involved, but right now every hair on his body was practically screaming to put some distance between the two of them.
no subject
To most it would've looked like he was hugging Claude from behind, but the action was much more possessive than that, especially when he squeezed lightly to remind the latter who had the upper hand right now.
"What's the rush, Claude? Shift isn't over yet..."
no subject
If this had been in the middle of nightshift, Claude wouldn't have thought twice about lashing back. Even a swift elbow to the gut, or maybe a fist in his face (see how he liked it) would have been something. But with the nurses watching their every move, he could only wish for the chance. Lay a finger on Sync, and he'd waste no time in playing it up to the staff for sure. He could only fight back as a last resort.
Still, this obvious show of power over him was humiliating in its own right, and Claude felt his cheeks burn with both embarrassment and fresh, raw anger.
"Let. Go," he grounded out, just loud enough for Sync to hear.
no subject
"Why should I? It's not like I'm hurting you," He pointed out amusedly, relaxing his grip just slightly before resting his chin on Claude's shoulder.
"Just relax. If I wanted to pull anything I would've done it already."
no subject
Maybe it was because of everything else that was going on, too, but Claude was getting sick and tired of even hearing this guy's voice. As childish as it might have sounded, he really wished Sync would just vanish instead of people like Ashton, people who didn't deserve the things that had happened to them.
"Then why even bother?" he growled. "It's always the same thing with you, isn't it? Always showing up during the day while the nurses are around, but once night falls, you're incapable of facing me, or Guy, or anyone else without some kind of dirty trick."
He shrugged his shoulder in an attempt to shake Sync off. "You might have the staff fooled, but I'm not an idiot."
no subject
"Really, I could kill you both any time I want. And you now why?"
He smirked.
"Because I don't need a weapon. I don't need to rely on anything but myself, and that's why I'm superior. It's not my fault you're so weak you have to use a sword or whatever else just to stand a sliver of a chance against me."
no subject
"That's a bunch of crap, and you know it!" he said snapped. "Why else would you have bothered to pretend you were somewhere else just so you could lure us into some trap?" He turned his head so he could get a better look at the replica. "Call it whatever you want, but it wasn't a fair fight, you bastard. If you were really as strong as you say you are, you wouldn't have needed to pull the wool over anyone's eyes."
And even if he wasn't some kind of master martial artist or whatever...so what? Claude had encountered all sorts of enemies during his travels, and while he hadn't necessarily won every battle, he'd managed to triumph in the end. This was no different. This was small potatoes, he kept telling himself.
Then why the hell did he feel so angry?
"You'd better hope we don't meet again at night," he added, eyes narrowed. "I'll be armed and ready -- and I'll kill you."
no subject
"And besides, it was just so easy to trick you like that. Guy was probably going to warn you about me eventually, so why waste the opportunity?"
Really, why couldn't Claude just admit that he was being a sore loser? It'd certainly make it easier for the both of them in the long run. It also didn't help at the latter was trying to threaten him, earning the blond a soft chuckle in response.
"I'd like to see you try. I doubt you'd be able to do anything without the help of your precious friends."
no subject
"Bored?!" Claude echoed, aghast. "You really did it because you were bored?" He'd known that Sync had no intention of finding a way to escape, but to think he just did this kind of thing for his own entertainment. It was enough to make his blood boil.
He resisted the urge to roll his eyes when Sync brought up his friends. To be honest, the idea of having to rely on other people in battle didn't faze Claude in the slightest. He knew that if it hadn't been for his friends' support, he wouldn't even be alive right then. And he knew there was no shame in acknowledging it.
"You say that like it's a bad thing," he said, straighten up a little, though whether it was to try to pull himself from Sync's grasp or simply because of the current topic, it was hard to tell. "At least I have friends." Which, as far as he was concerned, was all the more reason he needed to get Sync out of the picture.
