Day 40: Recreational Field
Kio's breakfast ended on a much happier note than it had started. However, for once the announcement truly surprised him. He blinked as his nurse came to pick him up. Recreational Field? But.. but if they had a greenhouse, he wanted to go there. The prospect of gardening was a truly liberating one, an island of joy in this hellhole. He thought about going to the Sun Room and lying down, but it occurred to him that he hadn't had proper fresh air since being here. With a cheery goodbye wave to Honey, he followed his torturer outside.
It was much better than he had expected. The sun wasn't too hot (what time of the year were they in, anyway?), so he walked slowly along the walls, fascinated by the size of the field. He wondered if Sou-chan was alright. He hadn't even checked the board. Well, if Soubi wanted to apologize, Kio would be willing to listen. The place was so crisp and clean. He had to think if anyone had ever gone over the walls. What was out there? Freedom? Or a different sort of monster?
Leaning against one of the walls, Kio took as much advantage of the sun as he could. He desperately wanted a lollipop. One was quietly nestled in his pocket, but he would need to wait until the nurses were busy with other patients before he tried anything. Soubi had gone to some trouble to get them, the least he could do was make sure they didn't get confiscated. So with bated breath, Kio waited for a shift in the mood. He was, for once, content. Not happy, but not going crazy either.

Going outside, though, couldn't help but cheer him up. Fresh air was always welcome after being cooped up inside for so long; being outside at night wasn't at all the same thing, and not only because of the additional dangers. But still, there was supposed to be a soccer game going this shift, and he welcomed the chance to get some exercise, especially now that he was feeling better himself.
Neither Ken nor Touya seemed to be outside yet, though, so Yukito found a ball and an empty part of the field, then started carefully stretching. It was almost like being back in high school again, with afternoon soccer practice, and he found himself looking forward to a bit of a game - as much as was possible, at least, given that most if not all of the participants were wounded to varying degrees at the moment.
[for Ken and Touya?]

He couldn't keep the temper up for long once he saw Yukito, already in possession of a ball, doing warm-ups to one side of the field. Ken jogged over to his roommate's side and flopped down on the grass. "Dunno how successful I was in convincing other people to play, but hey. I tried."

It was a little chilly out, but that was all right - he'd been running on worse mornings than this. "Good day for a game, no? The weather's clear and the sun's out. It doesn't get much better, though it could stand to be a little warmer."
no subject
"One of my friends from back home arrived the other night - he said he'd be coming, too," Yukito began, then paused and smiled cheerfuly at the newest arrival. "Good morning, Akihiko-san. Good to see you, too."
Once Touya showed up they'd have four people, and that should be enough for at least some practice, right? Maybe they could drag in some of the other people just standing around in the field.

One of them was his roommate, but which one was it? He eyed them both for just a moment before speaking.
"Sorry I'm late. My nurse thought I'd have a problem playing while injured," he explained, indicating the sling. "I'm Kinomoto Touya. Yuki's friend."
no subject
"Nice to meet you, Kinomoto. I'm Hidaka Ken." He flashed a grin at the other boy. "I'm Yukito's roommate."
Well, that would answer that question.

"Do we want to split up in teams? Try for as much of a real game as we can get, since...we're short on players?" Best to blame it on that, rather than the fact that two members of the group probably should be taking it easy. Neither Ken nor Touya would probably like that suggestion.

Nevermind that Touya did much the same thing during the day, except he didn't wake up next to himwhichwasreallyimportantandwhatwashethinking?!"Un," Touya grunted. "Nice to meet you Hidaka," he gave Ken a nod that looked more like he was trying to crack his neck. He looked at Akihiko and nodded as well--a bit more fluidly. "Nice to meet you as well, Sanada-san."
Touya put his hand in his pocket and nodded to Yukito. "We should play two on two, maybe?" Which would mean that there was a chance that Yuki would want to play on Ken's team. God, why was he so upset over something so trivial as who Yuki teamed up with? He should be happy that Yuki was making friends, since neither of them seemed to have made very many over their high school years.
Still. It was hard not to be jealous of Yuki's new friends when Touya didn't have any.

Ken had his suspicions. Touya had gotten on-edge when he'd mentioned that he was Yukito's roommate. Enough for Ken to easily read, anyway.
no subject
"All right, then. Are we ready?"
no subject
Although now that they were both in the same place, he did have to wonder at how similar Ken and Touya sounded, but shrugged it off again after only a moment's consideration. It wasn't really that important.
"C'mon, Touya, it'll be just like after-school practice," he observed, with a slightly mischievous grin toward his friend. "We'll show them how it's done."
no subject
"Y-yeah, let's just hope you don't spontaneously fall asleep on the field this time," Touya said with a wink. "Or I don't, for that matter.
"Anyway," he nodded to Akihiko and Ken. "Let's get started. You guys can take possession first," he said, turning and giving Yuki his version of the mischievous grin. "I don't think we'll mind, right Yuki?"
