Nightshift 39: Kitchen 2F

[from here]

It was darker in here than the other areas he'd passed through. Jason tossed up whether it was worth fucking up his night vision by switching on his flashlight to make searching the place faster. The possibility that the light would be even more painful for Wesker was also a plus considering how petty he was feeling right now.

Nah, it wasn't impossible to see and he could navigate well enough by touch. He also had a metahuman who could see in the dark with him who might just consent to doing something productive.

Moving carefully in the darkness Jason ran his hands along the counter tops to guide himself as he searched. Addressing Wesker he said, "Make yourself useful. Help me find a knife." He didn't know if the bastard would actually listen to him but he could try.

"Would you prefer a paring knife or a fillet knife?" Wesker asked, looking through the drawers, removing them and placing them on the counter after he had searched each one.

He planned to take another knife for himself, despite the fact that he already had two knives and an exacto knife. It was quite hard to be over-armed, particularly in a place like this. Wesker considered pointing out that Jason would get more assistance from people by being polite and helpful, but that would likely not improve the way the young man acted around him.

Plus it would open the possibility that Wesker acted in such a manner only for his own benefit. "Where did you learn to use a knife?" It was something to talk about, while silence was normally preferable they were making so much noise that a little more wouldn't matter.

Wesker claimed the fillet knife after Jason took the paring knife, slipping it neatly and carefully into a pocket for easy access. Kitchen knives weren't nearly as sharp as combat knives, but it would still be useful. Even if fillet knives were more fragile, it had a couple inches length over the paring knife. Wesker did doubt it would survive very long in a fight, though.

"It's a rather long, complicated story," Wesker commented. "It would be a waste of my night to recount my entire life story starting from when I was eighteen. I'm sure you don't really want to hear it, either."
