Nightshift 39: Stairwell by Waiting Room/Lobby 2
[from here]
When they passed the Sun Room, there was a whole lot less of a crowd. Guess nobody was interested in heading down this way yet. Though that just meant if there was something nearby, it’d be coming for the nearest easy targets: him and Leon.
And the kid had already gotten banged up pretty well once. He was going to get in Leon’s back up by protecting him all over again.
Ah well.
Although the doll moved without obvious signs of caution, he scoped out as much of their surrounding area as possible, masking what noise he could when he was wearing flimsy slippers. Hey, maybe he could at least grab some shoes from the patient possessions room, if nothing else. He missed shoes. When he reached the stairwell door, he paused for one moment, glancing back at the figure behind him--you never could tell if something was going to come flying out with teeth and claws, after all--before opening it.

A bit annoyed already that the man kept checking on him, Leon gave him a scowl the next time he looked back. "I'm covering the rear. You take care of what's in front of us." That was much of the point of travelling with another person, after all.

Once again, the thought stirred the doll’s memories of a Japan long over, and that was something not worth dealing with in his current situation. Landel’s confused the senses, blended worlds. The least he could try and do was not make the Head Doctor’s job any easier by letting things get to him, in even so small a way.
He took the scolding in stride, examining the dark interior of the stairwell and the other prisoners who passed them by before heading inside, himself. “Just seeing if you were ready. You never know what might happen,” he explained, innocent. Without putting an act into place, Ren wasn’t much cut out for rigid positioning… for more than one reason. The servant didn’t think that Leon expecting him to deal with threats coming from the front was automatically a sign of faith. The kid had never asked about Ren’s show of power, but the chances of personally getting attacked were lowered just by having someone else around, weren’t they?

Was that the sound of footsteps following him? Endrance looked around, but didn't immediately see anyone. Stop that..., he told himself firmly, as he opened the door to the stairwell. He took a moment to sweep the area with his flashlight - good. Nothing there but other patients, which was fine.
He nodded after that, and began proceeding upwards, ducking slightly under the door frame. While his PC's body was only a few inches taller than he was normally, the door frame had been meant for someone just a bit shorter than he was. That...was annoying.

B himself had noticed something concrete at least, and the moment he was in the stairwell he stooped to pick up one of the abandoned rose petals, rubbing it between his fingers since it was too dark to study it properly. It would likely look "bad" if his target turned around then, but... it was hardly easy to hide one's intentions on a set of stairs anyway. It could be said that if one paid attention, it was always possible to manipulate the attention of others after all.

Upon entering the stairwell, Momo slowed down and drew her sword. The second floor was much more dangerous than the first, overall, and she didn't know of any place she'd consider safe other than the chapel.
Even then, that place wasn't really safe like the patient rooms were.

Rangiku paused just inside the door to the stairwell, peering up into the darkness and listening intently for a few moments. It was always the place where she expected an ambush to happen, even if she'd never had any problems. Even if nothing was there though, it made sense to be careful, although she might actually welcome a fight at the moment.

"Think there's a few more down this way," he told Rangiku, starting down the first hallway.

Kurt scampered up the stairs, eyes flicking around for anything lurking in the dark. He didn't see anything, but he realized a second too late that he hadn't been walking up the stairs on two legs--he'd just gone on all fours.
"It's euh... clear, Mr. Stark!" Kurt ducked into the hallway.
