Nightshift 39: M91-M100 Hallway

"Of all the accursed...why did they have to place his quarters at such a distance from mine!"

Starscream continued to look over his map angrily; shining his artificial light upon the paper clipped into the cover of his notebook, he once again traced the two possible routes needed to get to Lockdown's room. "One is far longer...but potentially safer," he groaned, sliding his finger down the halls, across the large entry way, and back up to his destination. "The other...it takes me to the "soccer/recreational field". That's where that 'meta-bitch' 'Richard' mentioned was, the one who could made extreme cold. On the other hand, it IS shorter..." Closing the book with a sigh, he weighed his options carefully.

Laziness won out.

"As long as I am careful...I might avoid confrontation tonight," he reasoned. Clutching his book, a few pens, and the flashlight tightly, he made his way down to the M-C Block hallway.

With nightfall came the chance for discovery and risks, which Nigredo was prepared for but couldn't bring himself to feel ready. For all his battle capabilities and ability to dissect a situation, he had no way of predicting what could happen. What briefing he'd received was still under processing, and aside from the few significant exceptions, everything felt new, foreign, and at times, incomprehensible.

Although going out could be a good opportunity to remedy this issue, he was not sure if idea wouldn't kill him in the end.

Thus, the boy left some time after the doors unlocked, using the delay to do a quick overview of the resources held in his possession. Aside from the flashlight, there were a bundle of pens (composed of material he could not identify), several "Alkaline" batteries, some type of communication device, a pad of notebook paper, a key ring, and a closet full of the drab grey shirts and pants. Nothing particularly useful for defending himself against a hospital crawling with monsters, which was frustrating given Ren's earlier warning about power limitations. He hadn't known exactly what the man had meant, but even then, Nigredo was hardly the type to test out something in an unsafe environment. Without a suitable weapon, however, he may have no other choice; physical combat only went so far.

Guess he would have to see. Tucking a few pens into his pockets and the flashlight under an arm, Nigredo gave a polite nod to Sync as he shuffled out the door. His roommate sounded like he had plans; it probably would not do to hang around longer than necessary.

As soon as the child was clear, he broke into a light jog. He could slow down once he reached the main corridors.
