Day 39: Sun Room [Fourth Shift]

Yue was all too pleased to leave the cafeteria by the time lunch was over, even if he still wasn't satisfied that Fai was properly taking care of himself. It was clear that Touya hadn't accepted the answers he'd been given and intended to find out just what the guardian wasn't telling him, and being watched so closely was beginning to get uncomfortable.

It was clear that the truth would have to come out at some point, especially if they were going to be spending any amount of time together. Avoiding him was entirely out of the question, but at the same time Yue stubbornly refused to consider the idea of just outright telling him about what had happened in the last week. It was a dilemma indeed, and only served to make him even more irritable than ever.

How could he admit any of it? That he was weak and crippled, betrayed and altered by his creator? That he'd almost broken the promise he'd given in exchange for Touya's power? The latter he couldn't help but be reminded of every time he saw this Touya, who had only just gone through it, and would remember it even more clearly.

Fortunately Yukito was staying silent for the moment, although he could feel his other self's disappointment at being unable to speak to Touya so far, and it didn't make him feel any better.

In the midst of all this Yue was rather dismayed to realize that the nurse wanted to lead him to the music room, of all places: that was the room where he'd met the Sakura-who-wasn't-his-Sakura the week before, and needed neither the reminder nor the inevitable noise in that room. He abruptly halted in his tracks and refused to continue on. The nurse seemed initially disappointed, but finally agreed to let him stay in the Sun Room instead; the guardian found a corner in which to stand, arms folded across his chest and lost in his own brooding thoughts.

If the orderlies were dismayed by the boy's apparent disregard for his own welfare, they didn't show it. They only crowded in until there was no more room for Chris to move, twist and slide as he would, and slowly used their superior weight and bulk to force him to the ground. Every time he pushed one away, forced one back, there was another ready to take his companion's place.

Such a violent reaction was so out of character for the boy, but clearly he'd been through a lot in his past, so perhaps it was to be expected. Even as the nurse hurried in to take advantage of a brief moment when an orderly managed to capture Chris' arm just long enough for her to inject the sedative, she still couldn't help but feel a little bit of sympathy for him. Well, now that Mr. Fortune was gone, perhaps Christopher would be able to start to recover for real. She could only hope, the poor boy.

Haku did not go down easily, but he did go down. He felt the bite of the needle into his skin and shut his eyes. Oddly, as the drug began to work it's way into his system, it claered the panic andfear from his mind and he opened his eyes to look up at the nurse.

Really, it had been pointless, but ... But nothing. Pointless and now he'd be thrown in that cell again. Still, he wanted to try and fix someof the damage.

"S-sorry," he managed. His voice was slurring slightly, and his tone was soft, but he was still somewhat coherent. "Forrr h-hurting. You."

As the sedative began to take hold and Christopher stopped struggling, the orderlies slowly began to back off until only two remained with him. They were both cautiously watching to make certain he'd not suddenly manage to throw off the drugs' effects and awaiting further orders.

The original nurse stepped in again to take a cursory look at the boy's injuries, tsk'ing quietly in mild dismay until startled by the unexpected apology. "Oh, dear. I suppose it must have been a shock for you, wasn't it?" She gave his shoulder a gentle pat and nodded to the two orderlies. "We're going to give you some time by yourself, Christopher, so you can calm down a bit and think. I'm sure you'll be feeling better after that."

Now that they were no longer needed, most of the other staff members moved on to their other duties. The two orderlies left behind carefully lifted their charge and carried him out of the Sun Room and toward the solitary rooms, accompanied by the nurse who attempted to quell the curiosity of the other patients as they made their way out. "It's all right now," she said, in a reassuring manner, making shooing motions as those who turned to watch. "He was just a little upset..."
