Day 39: Music Room

Lunch had been fruitful. Celes had chosen not to eat, but that was fine enough for her; she’d eaten plenty at breakfast and it was not very good manners to eat while discussing war (for Celes, it’d always given her a bit of a stomachache), or plotting. Especially if one was in mixed company. Her nurse escorted her to the Music room, citing that her ‘sister’ had suggested that musical therapy would be good for her. Celes rolled her eyes. This was no music room, with their ‘electronic’ instruments; where were the violas and the harpsichords and phonographs? She’d been past this room before, but had never been interested enough to go into it.

The general sat down at the keyboard, staring at the odd device before prodding the buttons with a nail. On, off, rumba, tango, Caribbean (what in the world was ‘Caribbean?’), little numbers that changed the tone. It was the first time Celes wished that there was a real instrument before her, instead of this ridiculous thing. Still, it didn’t stop her from curiously stringing notes together with one hand, and the only song she could bring to mind was the Aria di Mezzo Carattere.

How dreadfully delightful.

"Us?" Now that was an interesting turn. Had Jiraiya actually made a foray into forming a relationship with Renamon? Part of the jounin, the logical part, really was starting to wonder about the man's priorities. But the thought that nagged him about this really being the man's last chance at life was just a little too loud to simply be ignored. So long as it didn't interfere with the teamwork of the ninja there (again), Kakashi supposed it couldn't hurt to let the man indulge himself a bit.

Besides, it might keep him from getting in trouble with the nurses by trying to peek into the girls' showers. Dealing with the aftermath of that was something none of them needed.

"You know, there's a lot of things I haven't told her that I could have." Well, if Jiraiya was going to play this game, then Kakashi would just have to up the ante a bit. "Now I'm not supposed to tell her that you pout when lectured by your juniors. But I'm almost done with the book I borrowed from the library, and I don't have anything to read after." As if to prove his point, Kakashi held up the volume in question, flipping it open close to the back. "I might have to make conversation with her to keep myself entertained."

No, Kakashi was not above blackmail to get what he wanted. Not when it came to the Icha Icha series.

Kakashi was completely correct in his assumptions. Not only would a possible relationship with Renamon keep Jiraiya from peeking into the women's showers, and it really was his last chance at life. Besides, Renamon was helping him learn much about the Institute.

Jiraiya wasn't surprised when Kakashi started his attempt to blackmail him, and Jiraiya merely raised an eyebrow. "Kakashi, if I force myself to write, it won't be nearly as good. I can try to write a short story, at most. Anything else would still need too much planning."

After all, Jiraiya wanted to give Kakashi something of quality.
