Day 39: Music Room

Lunch had been fruitful. Celes had chosen not to eat, but that was fine enough for her; she’d eaten plenty at breakfast and it was not very good manners to eat while discussing war (for Celes, it’d always given her a bit of a stomachache), or plotting. Especially if one was in mixed company. Her nurse escorted her to the Music room, citing that her ‘sister’ had suggested that musical therapy would be good for her. Celes rolled her eyes. This was no music room, with their ‘electronic’ instruments; where were the violas and the harpsichords and phonographs? She’d been past this room before, but had never been interested enough to go into it.

The general sat down at the keyboard, staring at the odd device before prodding the buttons with a nail. On, off, rumba, tango, Caribbean (what in the world was ‘Caribbean?’), little numbers that changed the tone. It was the first time Celes wished that there was a real instrument before her, instead of this ridiculous thing. Still, it didn’t stop her from curiously stringing notes together with one hand, and the only song she could bring to mind was the Aria di Mezzo Carattere.

How dreadfully delightful.

"A-a-ah..." Miku gasped as her expression went from curious to horrified. "S-Sousuke!" She drew away from him and looked away irritably, fixing her line of sight on the wall far away from him.

"What?" He looked down at the disks. Perhaps she didn't like the... 'Frontalley Guys'? Or 'In The Sync'? Strange titles, surely. She looked mad though. He was completely mystified.

And in the great tradition of female answers, Miku responded with, "Nothing. Hmph." She kept her eyes on the wall and continued to look somewhat exasperated, embarrassed and irritated.

You just didn't tell your girlfriend these kinds of things, she huffed to herself.

Sousuke paused, looking between Miku and the CDs. She said 'nothing' but followed it with a noise of annoyance. If she was annoyed, why didn't she say so? And more importantly, just what the hell was she upset about?

"I could find an equally obnoxious female band, if that is more acceptable. I saw a CD from the band 'Cyan'. Or perhaps Sylvia and the Kitty-Cats."

"I've never heard of any of those bands," Miku replied, keeping her eyes on the wall. Her voice lowered and she looked at him from the corner of her eye obviously a failed attempt at Sousuke's own deathglare, "I don't know what... those have to do with this, Sousuke."

Sousuke looked back down at the CDs. "What is 'this'?" he asked. "Because I don't know what 'this' has to do with the operation to counter the extremely aggressive plotting of our nurses."

"You... you know..." She couldn't say it, as much as she tried. Miku bit her thumb and looked significantly at his lap for about three-point-five seconds before looking back at his face.

"I don't know what those CDs have to do with whether or not you can..." she trailed off lamely and looked away again.

Sousuke looked down at his lap as well. Was there something on his pants? They looked clean to him.

"These CDs have appropriately un-romantic music on them, or so I've heard. Despite the fact that the songs are about men in serious relationships with women, Kurz has informed me that they are not something to share with a woman you want to sleep with, because one cannot maintain an erection while listening. Therefore, these songs are counter to the CD filled with... Love Songs III."

AH. HE SAID IT AGAIN. HE SAID THAT PERVERT WORD AGAIN. Miku rubbed her temples. "N-no, not the songs the... you're saying that word and... and.." She wanted to flail, she really did.

"I think music will be the least of our worries if we ever have to do that, later, don't you think?" Miku's voice squeaked and her cheeks turned bright pink.

"Romantic?" Sousuke tried. "Relationships? Erection?"

Sousuke didn't see what the problem was--they were just words after all. Perhaps she was afraid of sex?

"We don't have to do anything," Sousuke said with a frown.

"The... the last word!" Miku finally admitted, as her head and neck turned to the same color as her red coat from the last Doyleton trip.

"I know we don't have to... it's just a... word that makes me uncomfortable," Miku finished lamely with a wave of her hand. She sat back against the couch and sighed, knowing that at home, she'd quietly slipped away when Rei and Yuu had wanted time alone. "It's unromantic. 'Ere-'...'Ere'... well, you know."
