Nightshift 38 - General Storage
[From here]
Clark did his best to ignore his stinging finger. It hurt, but it wasn't as bad as nearly getting gored that time with Claire, to put things in perspective. Still, if he was supposed to be as powerless as a human, he wished it'd gone all the way; right now it seemed to be in this uncomfortable halfway point and he had no idea if he still got sick around kryptonite. That time he'd lost his powers, he'd actually been able to get within five feet of Lana Lang and not feel weak.
Stepping over the remants of the lock, kicking it a little to the side so Brainy wouldn't trip on it, Clark looked around. His flashlight kept flickering, making the shadows of boxes and the cabinets appear to leap. Would there be any flashlights here?

"Are you hurt?" he asked automatically, hovering uncertainly by the other's side. Normally something as simple as that should not have even been noticeable to the hero. "Your invulnerability must be affected as well," he mused. "You'll have to be more careful in that case, I wouldn't like it if... That is, I wouldn't be able to help you as well here if you did get hurt."

He already knew about the issues with his powers but hearing someone else talk about it like it was still a bit weird - the only people who even knew about his powers back home were his parents and Pete. Brainy had a point though - somehow he didn't think the smaller boy would have much luck dragging him around if he was hurt. Clark knew he was almost freakishly big for his age and he doubted Brainy had any super-strength. To be honest, he still wasn't entirely sure what abilities Brainy did have, aside from having an uncanny knowledge about Krypton and himself. Anyway, they weren't here just to poke doors open and realized he could stub parts of himself like a human. Clark looked around, frowning.
"You see anything you could use?" he asked, taking a step deeper inside.

For the moment, however, they had other matters to attend to. Moving away from the door, he shone his flashlight about the room, checking for anything interesting among the boxes of supplies. There seemed to be an abundance of extra clothing for the nurses and others in charge of the institute, as well as an array of different medical supplies. After a moments deliberation, Brainiac 5 took one of the small first aid kits and sandwiched a roll of gauze inside. He'd requested the item from Homura in order to carry out some very basic investigations - basic enough that he would have called them archaic, but no matter - but he reasoned that having a spare on hand wouldn't hurt.
"Clark? Have you found anything?" he called softly. Perhaps it was foolish, but something about the darkened room was making him feel more cautious.

He held up the bottle. "Some Tylenol, but I don't see any flashlights here. Maybe we should check another room?"

"No, I didn't find any flashlights either," he said with a sigh. "Hopefully we'll have more luck in another room." Glancing around one last time, he slipped out the door and back into the hallway.

This room had been crowded the other night, thanks to the two men who had been taking apart things for their own purposes. Still, Xelloss remembered the medical supplies, although they had seemed to be mostly light rather than the laboratory tools that he supposed were on the other side of the building. The most obvious items were, of course, the lab coats... but those were certainly medical supplies. Technically speaking.
"Does anything in this room look useful, too?" He was a little curious just to see what the king would want, if anything, here.

In any event, everything in here seemed to be in cabinets and boxes, so nothing caught Porky's eye immediately. He began rummaging through the cabinet closest to him, but nothing useful seemed to be in there. Just a few uniforms and other miscellaneous articles of clothing. In the box next to it, however, were pairs of sterilized gloves and goggles. If Porky planned to use chemicals against any potential threats, it would be helpful to have a few pairs of gloves and maybe a pair of goggles or two to ensure that Porky wasn't hurt by the chemicals as well. A few of those went into the bucket.
But that didn't solve Porky's storage problem. In fact, the bucket was only carrying more now. Checking the boxes next to the cabinet offered a solution, however. The box was full of sheets and pillows. Grabbing one of the pillows, he pulled it out of its pillowcase and promptly discarded it, intending to use the pillowcase as a sack.
With his storage problem now solved, Porky began to look through the other boxes for anything else he could use. While rummaging through a few more boxes, Porky grabbed a couple first aid kits and a meal tray to possibly use as a small shield.
"Alright, Xelloss," Porky said finally, "I'm done here."

Sadly, it just didn't seem likely for tonight, which was especially too bad considering how King Porky seemed rather satisfied with his gatherings. It wasn't usually that neat when there was an attack here, anyhow. Monsters had a funny habit of ganging up at uncomfortable times. It might be easier even if they were attacked to just fight than to try to escape and be hurt in the effort, and that wasn't worth it to see a king get eaten alive by some unlikely animal mutation, hybrid, zombie or chimera. As much fun as that by itself would be.
Taking bandages or other supplies for himself simply didn't occur to him. As long as Xelloss had spent in this human body now, the foresight that injuries needed cleaning and binding sometimes very quickly wasn't terribly driven in. Even when he'd been hurt, the Institute itself had cleaned it up efficiently overnight, like his own 'body's' regeneration. "Oh, you must have a very creative mind, your highness. I'm sure you'll do well here with that kind of mindset! I think it's the most important aspect to survival."
Well, that or hiding, but hiding wouldn't ensure nobody would come by the room at night and kidnap them away to whatever fate awaited those unfortunate individuals, like Lord Hellmaster. And being active was far more entertaining.
