"I could teach you, if you want..." Tony probably wouldn't be wandering around alone at night, but Steve could teach him a few useful things that wouldn't take long for Tony to pick up. There were other things that needed to be done, too, but Steve felt it was important for Tony to be able to better defend himself.

Steve still had no idea if the sort of training he would be able to give Tony in a short amount of time would be helpful against the monsters here, though. He hadn't even seen any yet, and it was entirely possible that there were things here that couldn't be fought without weapons.
