Nightshift 37: M51-M60 Hallway
The conversation with Mikami had left Edgeworth with a lot of food for thought. He was glad that he'd agreed to work with the History Club that night, rather than going along with Mello up to the patient possessions room and the file rooms. While it was true that it could very possibly get his suit dirty, well, he was hoping to avoid that as much as possible. There wasn't a dry cleaner in Landel's Institute as far as he was aware.
And so, he took a pillowcase, his flashlight, a single scalpel, and his notebook along with him, and left, hoping that his partner for the night wouldn't mind carrying most of what they'd find.

Once Kaito had entered their little box for dinner, it wasn't as though the vampire would be sinking back into sleep. His dinner was walking around and shovelling chicken into his mouth. A locked door, and one unsuspecting human... 'Dinner' was practically free for the taking, for a wounded, ravenous vampire.
Torture had many definitions.
Whatever went through Aidou's head that night--as he sat silently, watching Kaito almost constantly--it didn't change the fact that he held himself in check without wavering. No, no he couldn't attack the boy, no matter how provoking the roommate situation was. When the doors unlocked and he let Kaito leave for the night, it felt like Aidou could finally breathe. Less to do with his healing chest wound.
There was no way around it, Aidou needed the night to find blood, and badly. He didn't fear he'd ever lose control and unintentionally hurt one of the other prisoners... but he wasn't about to restrain himself further for the sake of others. He'd spent the day keeping himself coiled like a spring, and now he needed to pull back from that edge and unwind, ease his appetite. He needed to heal as quickly as possible, if only to make up for what had happened last night.
The clothes that'd been ruined were, as usual, in perfect condition. The noble didn't have time to wallow in the resentment; he changed into his black uniform shirt and the second pair of pants. The radio came along as usual, not that Aidou had any intention of following Jill's advice should she deign to give any.
Right, now... The vampire made no sound as he stepped into the hallway, took a single look around, and left. No good... He needed to find people he could subdue without undue strain.

Yahiko touched the number plate on the first door to see which order the numbers would go in, then counted down to the door that should have been Kenshin's. He gave it a couple good knocks, then waited for the rurouni's voice to call him in.

At his pace, it didn't take long for Sanosuke to reach Kenshin's hall. He slowed down a bit then, his eyes having started to adjust to the darkness some, and Sano could just make out a figure standing in front of M55. Only one guy that could be, and Sano grinned.
"Nice to know you didn't get lost." A hand in his pocket, Sanosuke walked up to Yahiko. "So you find out what the nurses call you and your room number like I told you to?"
M55
"Ah...why don't you come in for a few minutes? Sano, did you manage to get those...things? To power the flashlight?"
Re: M55
When Kenshin opened the door with a smile, he couldn't help grinning as well. "Nope." Yahiko stepped past Kenshin and stood in the center of the room, looking at the others expectantly. "So we're going outside?" That's what the bulletin said. Either way, he wanted to get started as soon as possible, partly because it was good to accomplish stuff but mostly because he was curious about these creatures Sano had talked about. Now that they were all together, there was no way they'd run into something they couldn't handle.
Re: M55
Kenshin was grinning, and that was a good sign. Sanosuke stepped in after Yahiko, and nodded when Kenshin asked about the things. "Yeah. Here." Pulling out the weird tubes, Sanosuke handed them over, then held out his light stick. "Where'd you learn all this crap from anyway, Kenshin? The light stick thing is nice when it works, but lighting a candle is a hell of a lot simpler."
Re: M55
He threaded the sheathed sword through the loop he'd created in the waistband of his trousers, paused, and then turned around to face the boy. "Apologies, Yahiko. This one knows that you're an adult and have got a sword of your own now, but tonight, you may be back to the bokken. There's a wooden pole in the closet...do you think you can work with that until we can get you a sword of your own?"
The rurouni took the flashlight and the tubes from Sanosuke, staring at them intently. "You pick up a few things when you watch the board. Apparently these" --he held up the batteries-- "power the flashlight but...this one doesn't know how. We can experiment?"
Re: M55
"I almost always use a shinai or bokken anyway." He walked over to the closet and opened the door, squinting. "You said that swords shouldn't be drawn lightly." He found the pole and gripped it, testing its balance. He preferred the practice weapons that he was used to, but he'd be able to get the hang of this. While the other two dealt with the light sticks, he worked on getting used to the balance of the pole using a few well-practiced swipes.
Re: M55
Kenshin was talking about the batteries, and Sanosuke nodded, turning his attention to the rurouni. "Is that how it works? Ninja Girl said she'd fix it, but I didn't have it with me then." Sanosuke looked at the items, then shrugged. "If it's just mine that isn't working, we can go without. I'll ask about it tomorrow. Besides," Sanosuke grinned, pointing over at Yahiko. "Someone is pretty damn eager to get going, yeah?" And truthfully, Sanosuke was too. Maybe actually getting over the wall and exploring some would get them somewhere with going home. Anything seemed more promising than saying indoors.
Re: M55
The rurouni gave the batteries and the flashlight one more hopeless look and nodded. There were three of them, and they had two working flashlights. They had more than enough light.
"Let's just go, then," he said, smiling.

He wouldn't be there the whole night. He knew Mello had other plans and he had things he needed to get done himself. He'd have to get as much as he could done in the shortest amount of time.
M60
He waved goodbye when Sai left and went to gather his own things, opting to leave Usa-chan sitting on the bed tonight, and picking up his half of the walkie-talkie. He'd forgotten to mention them to anyone yet and they could probably wait until morning. All the same, they might be nice to have on hand, just in case. He tucked it on to his waistband and looked for anything else that might be useful. His flashlight, some pens, and that was really it. He'd worked with less, but it would have to do for now.
Peeking his head outside the door, he waited out in the hall, flashlight in hand as he anxiously waited for Takashi.
Re: M60
Mori made it with relative ease to his cousin's room like always. Getting to the place was easy since he did it every night. Coming up without making much noise, but enough to make sure Mitsukuni knew it was him, Mori stopped next to the shorter boy and head out the dessert.
Re: M60
He took the dessert, but paused before eating it, glancing up at his cousin. "Takashi," he started, looking only slightly worried. "You're not upset that I played with Sou-chan today, are you? He's really nice I think."
Playing with Soubi during the last shift had probably been the most enjoyable part of his day. After the first two angry people, then lunch, it'd been a nice pick up before dinner. He just hoped Takashi would understand. Usually there were few problems, neither even needed many words to know what the other was feeling or why, but it was always best to clear the air before things got complicated.
Re: M60
Sou-chan. Soubi. Agatsuma Soubi - Mori had heard the name when the twins mentioned him on the board. The man they said was a pervert. But that couldn't be right since even Mori had met him (albeit briefly) once and he hadn't really given off any weird vibes. Sure, he'd been hanging around with Tamaki's roommate (who looked far too young to be in this place), but Mori hadn't thought anything was off about their relationship. Until this morning of course, but the twins tended to exaggerate sometimes.
Shaking his head, Mori leaned against the wall, keeping an eye on the hallway around them. No matter what people said, so long as Soubi didn't try anything, Mori would be fine with him. Mitsukuni could take care of himself anyway, and if he and the older man got along, then it wasn't Mori's place to separate them. Unless Soubi did something that made Mitsukuni upset - then Mori would have to step in. Looking down at Mitsukuni, he gave his cousin a reassuring look and then motioned to the dessert so he'd eat it before it melted.
Re: M60
"He just wants to protect his friend," Honey explained, starting on his ice cream. "I told him we would help him learn to fight. He said he's not very good, but hnn... I bet it would help a lot." Not just for Soubi, but for a lot of the people here. He didn't know if he wanted to start teaching again seriously, but he also didn't want his friends going out at night unprepared.
When he finished the bowl, he set it down near the wall, all set to go, but not sure where to start. Phones again? Maybe tonight that front desk place would be clear.
Re: M60
If Soubi just wanted to protect his friend, then Mori understood his feelings quite well. Not everyone as small as Mitsukuni had the benefit of being able to take care of himself. If the kid wanted to learn how to defend himself, then Mori would be happy to teach him or to let Mitsukuni teach him. The rest of the Host Club could probably use it, too, come to think of it.
Now that everything was settled and the small bit of tension was gone between them, Mori turned his thoughts to what they were going to do that night. "Front room?" he asked, wondering if they were going to try for phones. "Or kitchen?"
Re: M60
"Front room first," he decided. Hopefully those weird monster things wouldn't be around tonight.
"Hnnn," he glanced down the hallway toward their next destination. "If anything is bothering you too Takashi, it's okay to say something." Tamaki wouldn't share everything, he knew the twins were still keeping a lot to themselves, but Takashi had always been pretty open. He just hoped this place wouldn't change that.
Re: M60
Front room. Got it. With his cousin on his shoulders, Mori stood and started down the hall.

He set out carrying only his pillowcase-wrapped syringes in his coat pocket, carrying an extra. Hattori was meant to meet with Homura tonight, and he could deliver the extra to the History Club leader.

Armed with his freaking arsenal, Xigbar very nearly skipped down the hallway, certain that this time he was going to get what he wanted. Those nurses were going down.

Yeah... real triumphant return, right? Xigbar ran down the hallway, stumbling a little as he rounded the corner. He had to assume that the nurse was still following after him, and... well, if that was true, then he'd either be a-okay or in a world of hurt in a few minutes. At least it'd answer the research question he still had... if the nurse was still there.
Xigbar slumped against the wall, narrowing his one eye and straining his ears to remain alert for the nurse's presence.

But it was interesting, wasn't it, that even though he had nearly forgotten about it, Edgeworth had kept his promise of supplying a list of names and room numbers. And even though said list was probably fairly inaccurate by now, it did have one important entry- that of Yagami Light. And the night before, Mikami had been told by his god that he would find a way to contact him.
And so he was setting off, with coat, pens, and journal. After all, M65 wasn't that far away.

More sleep studies? They were definitely doing them every night, now. Was the increase due to the increase in patients, or some time constraint?
No point ruminating at this precise moment. Moving with confident speed -- he knew these halls far too well by now, walking them by day and night -- Sasuke headed for the rendezvous.

M58
As usual, he went out, unarmed and without his flashlight, his night-vision passable enough to see by.
