Day 37: Sun Room (4th Shift)

There were still too many things on Armand's mind for him to truly relax. The morning with Alec had been a help. And seeing that TK was going to be well helped him know that it was time to work out something else, but what? He'd already, without success again, tried to reach one of the club leaders about his sole idea of something new and different. Maybe it was hopeless.

There was no way he was going to play with paper and glue like a small child, and he glared at the nurse as best he could until she gave up on the idea. There was a free chair in the Sun Room--in fact, there were many free chairs--where he settled down to see what the new patients looked like. Prisoners, not patients. He felt bad that he had to remind himself. Even if he was crazy, he wasn't going to give in to Dr. Landel's game, not today. He nibbled on an overgrown cuticle and kept an eye on the room. No dozing today.

[fine with me /o/]

"Ah, I should have guessed as much; I noticed your post on the board about a partner for the night," Kratos said. "I'd have replied, but Miss Sage will be out tonight, so the clinic needs my presence." Even more so since he had promised to mend Guy's arm this night.

He sighed. "I suppose I'll have to take a night off some time; a swordsman isn't much if he doesn't have a weapon."

Leon wasn't sure, for a moment, why Miss Sage would be absent from the clinic for the night, but it belatedly occurred to him that she might want to attend that funeral. What nonsense. As if that man was the first person to die in this place. "It seems like a large group of patients all bunched together at night is just asking for trouble. I hope I'm wrong about that."

"She and another...acquaintance of mine put together a mobile healing group for tonight, and as having a large group of healers wandering around- especially without adequate protection- is a sure path to suicide, well, I'm fairly sure their numbers won't be large." It would also minimize the damage done to the clinic's effectiveness if only one healer went out, but that was a rather cold way to look at things.

Kratos glanced at the board. "And I admit I'm of a similar opinion, but yes, hopefully things will go smoothly." And if they didn't, it was going to be a long night for sure.

That was actually a pretty good idea--inevitably there were people who couldn't make it to the clinic under their own power, and lacked the aid needed to get there. But... "They're not taking guards? That seems ill-advised." At best. But then, this was Kratos, so why was Leon dumbing things down? "Actually, it seems completely stupid."

Leon followed Kratos' gaze and sighed. "Maybe we're concerned for nothing. I doubt Landel has any respect for anything we do, but he might pass up the opportunity just out of perversity."

"Ah, I should have clarified: Miss Sage is the only healer; the rest are there to deal with any possible trouble." Kratos mentally berated himself: that was an idiotic detail to leave out. He couldn't assume that everyone else knew the exact layout of the team.

He shrugged. "I think those going understand what sort of risks come along in attending, and I'm sure Landel at least understands that his patients are not all idiots. If nothing happens, all the better; if something does show up, at least it won't come as a surprise."

"Well, that's showing some common sense, at least. Can't say it's a bad idea, if you've got enough healers to go around." Though, truthfully there was probably no such thing as "enough" healers, some nights. But clearly there were nights when nothing much happened--Leon had been there one such night--or at least not many people made it to the clinic. "Still, I'd think it would be better to see what kind of night the clinic is having first, and go out if it turns out to be a slow one."

"Well, sometimes a large group comes in right at the end, so there's no sure way to know if you're going to regret leaving later, but the clinic will be fine without her," Kratos said. "We have some more people coming to help, so it's not as if Tamaki and I will be without backup." There had been that kid last night, for instance, whom he still had to introduce himself to, and the person Tamaki had talked to on the board: that was two people right there.
