Day 37: Sun Room (4th Shift)

There were still too many things on Armand's mind for him to truly relax. The morning with Alec had been a help. And seeing that TK was going to be well helped him know that it was time to work out something else, but what? He'd already, without success again, tried to reach one of the club leaders about his sole idea of something new and different. Maybe it was hopeless.

There was no way he was going to play with paper and glue like a small child, and he glared at the nurse as best he could until she gave up on the idea. There was a free chair in the Sun Room--in fact, there were many free chairs--where he settled down to see what the new patients looked like. Prisoners, not patients. He felt bad that he had to remind himself. Even if he was crazy, he wasn't going to give in to Dr. Landel's game, not today. He nibbled on an overgrown cuticle and kept an eye on the room. No dozing today.

The cheerful fellow at lunch had done a bit to brighten Frey's mood, and he was more firmly resolved than ever to do his best to hide any lingering sadness and self-pity. It was now as it had been during the war--showing his bad moods affected the moods of others, and it was unfair to them to be a drain on morale. Hopefully another conversation with someone pleasant would do the last bit of work sorting out Frey's mood, and he would be able to be strong and stable for Takaya when dinner came.

At first Frey thought against bothering someone who seemed to be reading, but as he passed by he noticed that actually very little of the man's attention was being spent on his book. Pausing, Frey asked softly, "Are you not enjoying the book?"

"Hmm? What?" Yukito blinked once, drawn back from his reverie as the stranger addressed him. He'd tried to have a word with his other self, but Yue was either asleep or pretending to be; either way, it was clear that the talk they really needed to have wouldn't be happening just now. At any rate, though, he quickly recovered and smiled in cheerful welcome at the newcomer. "Oh, it's just...well, I guess I'm not really in the mood to read at the moment. "

Yukito glanced down at the book in his hand, realizing that he wasn't actually sure just what book he'd been given, he'd been paying so little attention to it. Normally he would've enjoyed the chance to sit and read, but then, normally he wouldn't have been in a place like this with everything he knew about himself and his life turned upside-down. It was probably understandable.
