Day 37: Sun Room

Joe had read some of the larger notes stuck up on the bulletin board when the announcement came on the intercom. All things considered, this Landel guy didn't even seem so bad. Even if these people were held here against their will, he was certainly nice about it.

Apparently, the new patients - including Joe - were to hang around in the Sun Room or go to Arts and Crafts with the kids. Well, there was plenty of information on the board, including maps and descriptions of monsters, for Joe to prepare for the nighttime, when he could seriously get going on fighting his way out. He could look for where the boss would probably be waiting, or where his V-watch might be, and figure out how to fight the monsters. In fact, he had plenty of time to work all that out... but this the first time he'd had to really relax since he got his powers. So it couldn't possibly hurt to enjoy the calm period, could it?

The red-head stepped back from the board, and hopped back onto a comfy-looking couch to digest in the sunlight. He reached up to pull his cap down, and sighed when he realized it wasn't there. "Oh well, nothing's perfect. I still wouldn't call this hell."

Kenren watched the woman approached surreptitiously from beneath half lidded eyes, admiring her grace. She was pretty stunning. He wished that he could see her in something other than the drab grey of the Institute. It was pretty criminal that she had to wear something so formless.

Ah well, not much that he could do about it now.

He shook his head when she asked if she could sit. "Sure, go ahead," he replied, smiling at her. How could he resist a request from such a stunner as her?

Celes alighted on the end of the couch, and spun the handle of the brush in her hand. "Thank you," she replied and started to brush out the last little section of hair. "Forgive my observation, but you seem terribly relaxed, don't you?" She watched him from the corner of her eye and worked her fingers and the brush through her hair, separating the curls that nearly touched the seat of the couch.

Pesky things, curls.

"Not a problem," Kenren replied genially, shifting over to give her a little more room and making sure that he looked at her face politely (not that that was a hardship mind).

He laughed softly when she asked him that question, nodding in agreement. "Whatever gave you that impression?" he asked dryly. "I'm not being attacked by monsters, not having to give anyone orders and not being shot at. Seems like a pretty good time to relax to me."

"You've a point," Celes agreed, and pulled apart the last tangle with her hairbrush. There, now she felt better, least away before it dried thoroughly and she would have to attack it again for vanity's sake. "Still, it is rather odd to find a person so very relaxed. If you were about to sleep when I came to sit, I apologize. It was not my intention to keep you awake, sir."

Celes wondered idly if her companion was referring to ordering people during the night, or if he, like she, was a general, and thus was complaining about his work. Her tiny smile widened slightly, thinking of Leo and his general disdain for when she was a new captain complaining about her soldiers.

Kenren shook his head, waving a hand absently. "I wasn't sleeping," he replied pleasantly. "Just sprawling a little." It was more interesting watching people anyway, even if he would eventually need to get some sleep. He had too much to consider right now. Like the woman sitting next to him. Well worth considering. He was still faintly annoyed that there weren't more woman around in the Institute.

"Mm," Celes slipped the brush into the pocket of her uniform and leaned against the back of the couch. If he could relax, then perhaps she could. Provided that particularly prickly, impetuous youth from the bulletin - the one who seemed so dead-certain that he was not a civilian nor a human (ha! laughable. He certainly had bled like one) - didn't show up to ruin her afternoon. She'd apologized as was her right on the field of honor. He could kiss the back of her fist if he wished to keep up with his stupidity.

She returned her attention to her companion. "I am Celes Chere, a pleasure to meet you, Mister...?" she trailed off and offered her hand in a proper shake, nothing like some delicate little noblewoman would do.
