Day 37: Sun Room

Joe had read some of the larger notes stuck up on the bulletin board when the announcement came on the intercom. All things considered, this Landel guy didn't even seem so bad. Even if these people were held here against their will, he was certainly nice about it.

Apparently, the new patients - including Joe - were to hang around in the Sun Room or go to Arts and Crafts with the kids. Well, there was plenty of information on the board, including maps and descriptions of monsters, for Joe to prepare for the nighttime, when he could seriously get going on fighting his way out. He could look for where the boss would probably be waiting, or where his V-watch might be, and figure out how to fight the monsters. In fact, he had plenty of time to work all that out... but this the first time he'd had to really relax since he got his powers. So it couldn't possibly hurt to enjoy the calm period, could it?

The red-head stepped back from the board, and hopped back onto a comfy-looking couch to digest in the sunlight. He reached up to pull his cap down, and sighed when he realized it wasn't there. "Oh well, nothing's perfect. I still wouldn't call this hell."

See now, the guy could be talkative. Still mostly expressionless, but the shades made it cool. He wasn't entirely sure why the guy was asking if he knew anything, or if he was just making conversation, but it was still worth answering.

"Not how to make them," he admitted, rubbing at the back of his head. He glanced back down to the notebook. "But I do know how to use them, generally."

Rude pointed his pen down at the seat beside him, a silent order for the guy to sit. He didn't like all this hovering and since the guy might be of use, Rude wasn't going to get rid of him just yet.

"What do you do at night?"

Matsuda plopped down next to the guy when he indicated. He didn't really want to make him have to point twice, since he didn't figure he'd waste words on 'sit down's and 'shut up's.

"I just kinda try to do what I can with the people I know. I've only really been here a few days, so it hasn't been much." Actually, the only thing he really had done was help Naomi rescue L, and that had ended up pretty botched. Matsuda was silent for a moment, then realization spread over his face as it dawned on him where this was going. "Wait, why? Do you want some help?"

What the hell did that mean? Do what he could with the people he knew? Kinda sounded like he was just a dogsbody. Worked for Rude. And the guy seemed to click. Well done to him.

Rude nodded. How to word this. He needed to know the guy's exact experience and qualifications. Profession.

"What do you do?" he asked. Here or home, any answer would do for the minute. He needed to know more about the guy before he used him let him in on this.

Well, that was a bit of an indirect answer. Matsuda wasn't entirely sure how to respond to the question. Was the shades guy asking about here or back home? Then again, he could just respond with both.

"I was a police officer. Detective, actually, but I've had training with firearms and explosives." He was still pretty proud of it, even if he had gotten in because of a connection, and it sure made things sound better than it could have right now.

"Here, all I've really done so far is head upstairs to help my former boss who got nabbed for those experiments." Technically, he'd also started a band, but he wasn't sure if he should go ahead and mention that or not. It seemed almost like an interview, so that wouldn't exactly be very professional, but that also didn't exactly matter in this place.

More often than not it was a blessing that Rude wasn't vert expressive. This was one of those occasions. The man in front of him was a Detective? Trained in firearms and explosives? Well, he supposed he'd seen dumber people left in charge of these things.

Rude didn't know a whole lot about the experiments but the guy had been upstairs and seemed willing. So that was good. Rude nodded, as he thought to himself.

"What's your name?" he finally asked, makin a few notes on a new page of his journal.

No comment on it, no change in expression, no nothing. Man, was this guy's face frozen like that, or what?

"Matsuda," he replied after a moment, watching the shades guy write down a few more notes. Looked like he was wanting some help, and just didn't really know how to say it, or something like that. That was good, though, wasn't it? This was getting the conversation going the right way, right?

"What about you?"

[identity profile] silent-shades.livejournal.com 2008-11-27 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Despite the way the guy had energetically burst into Rude's day, he was actually proving to be bearable. Not too chatty or inquisitive. Wait, what that his game? Some sort of super genius detective who played dumb? Hm.

He considered giving a fake name, even thye one the Institute had given him, but he refused to address himself as 'Leslie', even if he was one of the few people who could get away with the name. Once he's slapped a few bitches for laughing at it and made an example of them.

"Rude. You got any plans tonight?"

[identity profile] showtime-matsu.livejournal.com 2008-11-28 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
That was...quite a name. Seriously, who named their kid Rude? Even if it...kinda fit him, what with how terse he was. And expressionless. Okay, so maybe he actually sorta fit his name, but Matsuda had to wonder if it had something to do with being called that growing up.

Then again, he looked like the kind of guy who could deal and move on. Maybe it was the shades, which just looked cool. He wasn't impossible to talk to, at least, but maybe that was because Rude was actually talking back.

"Not yet, I don't," he replied. "You want some help?"

Hm. No comment about the name, but Rude could see it in the man's face. The whole 'what bastard parents he must have had'. There were two looks, you see. The one of pity and confusion which meant the wearer blamed the parents. And then there was a the cautious 'should I shit my pants' look in which the wearer was certain it was a nickname gained after a terrible life of crime and delinquency.

Truth was, his parents were bastards but it was his body type that made HIM one. He'd always been a big kid, made sense to bulk up.

But should he let Matsuda in on this shit? Reno had been pretty useless last night, but Elena was in good working order, as far as he could make out. Still, didn't hurt to have an extra pair of helping hands. Matsuda was interesting enough without being annoying.

"Sure. I need to find more equipment. Meet me by the stairs next to the Entrance Hall."

He'd give the guy a trial run then send him out alone maybe. In return...ah, Rude could test spare an explosion or two.
