Nightshift 36: Main Hallway, 1-West

[From here.]

For once, this hall was devoid of traffic, though people were beginning to appear in the adjacent areas. Ken simply looked on and ran, seeing little point in staying in one place.

Huh, the hall was empty. Yukari had never gotten this far and the place was still devoid of people, but then again, it wasn't as though she had this advantage of a quick start often...

Uhg, this was getting tiring, moving all this way with so much stuff. She was halfway there, though, so she couldn't stop just yet, especially when the halls weren't completely safe to be.

Definitely the long way around. Safer, hopefully. Matt tried not to look ahead towards the center of the hall. He could tell from the smell that the mess had been cleaned. If he was to look he was sure he wouldn't see a single speck of blood left on the walls or floor. All the same, the events of the previous night were still fresh in his memory. Just the thought was enough to make him swallow to keep his food down.

One more long hallway until he reached the right block. He just had to keep his focus ahead.

Subaru hoped that he hadn't managed to miss Yue/Tsukishiro-san already. There was hardly anyone in the hall, though, so it seemed relatively unlikely. He leaned against a wall for now, at a location where he could see both the halls leading out onto the main hall.

Into the main hall, and still not many people. She slid along the wall to the next hallway.

Kagura rounded the corner quickly and quietly as she could. She didn't want to waste time and she didn't want to stick around any longer than she had to. The sooner she was back in the relative safety of the dormitories, the better she'd feel.

Gin didn't waste any time as he crept down the hall. He finally had to turn his light on though, as there weren't many others out and about just yet. He scanned the hallway carefully, though he wasn't too worried about monsters and other nasties just yet.

Moving through the darkness wasn't anything new to Allen, and it was easy for him to make good time. He didn't really need the portable torch, and it was much faster to move without it. His left eye glowed dimly in the blackness, but didn't stay long. The sooner he could get to Rinali, the sooner they could sort things out.

"Let's see," she mumbled to herself, mostly to keep her thoughts straight. "They should be around here somewhere...."

Turning a right, Harley moved down the corridor at a careful pace. She honestly wanted to hurry, but she already knew too much rushed activity too soon would just get her dizzy, and she be on the ground before she even realized it. Best to save her strength for when she got her babies out. Then... ooohhh then would there be some hell to pay. Moreso if they had so much as a scratch on their darling little faces.

It wasn't very long until her flashlight illuminated the stairs she'd been expecting to find. She had yet to make it upstairs and was a bit unsure of what could be up there. But if that's where her babies were, that where she'd go.

"Just hold on a little longer," she prayed. "Mommy's on her way."

To change the subject, Raine asked, "Would you mind if I watched you with Forte? Obviously, it's been a while since I was taught any self-defense." She wasn't going on kid herself on that; she didn't want a repeat of what that woman had done to her.

[identity profile] mizuhomaiden.livejournal.com 2008-10-29 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
Sheena turned around and started walking backwards so she could see Raine a bit better, confident that she wouldn't hit anything as long as no one stupidly ran out in front of her. She blinked a little and cocked her head.

"Yeah... Like I'm going to tell you no when I'm teaching someone who may as well be the biggest baby ever. Who knows how much he'd wail if he stubbed his toe during training." She rolled her eyes. "I'm also really worried about him. Aside from the whole robot thing."

The ninja scratched the back of her neck. "I think he got a visitor or something. Did you see his rambling post about doppelgangers on the board?"

[identity profile] per-ardua.livejournal.com 2008-10-29 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes. Honestly, having had them a week ago, I'm still not certain what to think of them." She could have lived without seeing her "mother", but the child that looked like Genis... she just wanted to be there for him, true identities be damned.

"Though despite not being fully human, at least I had the advantage of keeping my real form... I can see why he would be so disoriented."

[identity profile] mizuhomaiden.livejournal.com 2008-10-29 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
"Eh. Would you really miss the pointy ears?"

The ninja glanced back over her shoulder before looking back. "I dunno... Forte seems to think he might not be the real Forte because of this Wily guy." she said. "I... want to help but... well, I'm not sure what to do if he doesn't think he's the real him. It'd really suck if that was true and someone just stuck his memories in another body."

Sheena shivered at the thought. "I just creeped myself out."

"There's more to elven heritage than that, you know," Raine said dryly. "Really, it's the human blood I wouldn't miss." There were supposed to be certain advantages physically to being a half-elf; she supposed she wasn't quite as delicate as a full elf (she rarely got sick in any sense), but she was so used to pretending she didn't have any human blood at all that she mostly dismissed its influence on her.

As for the reference essentially to copies... she didn't want to think about it.

Sheena glared. "Of course there's more than that, but the ears are the part you hide." She sighed. "Okay, so not having your magic would really suck, so I'm glad you're still all elfy."

As usual, there were several others already moving through this hall. Tonight wasn't a time to stop and look for someone off by themselves, however. Now he had proper plans.

Scar passed the next hallway silently, not having the desire to draw unwanted attention from the patients traversing through this hall. After all, he had a destination in mind for tonight.

He may not have intended to go that way, but Kurogane did give the left hallway a glance before heading the way he needed. No, no overpowering scent of blood this night. Something drastic must have happened for that one time. Most likely a death. He'd seen a few notices on the board (had argued with one brat a bit), so it wasn't impossible. He just hoped he'd never recognize any names of those killed.

Brainiac 5 shone his flashlight along the hallway in both directions, trying to make out if there was anything of interest that would warrant further investigation. Considering how many other people were in the area, he had to wonder why no one had thought to activate any form of light source beyond the primitive and largely ineffectual handheld lights. Unless he'd somehow managed to arrive in the midst of a power crisis, it made little sense to have everyone relying on their own flashlights to move around. But then it was also highly possible that none of these people were supposed to be wandering around after dark and were trying to avoid drawing attention to themselves, which would also explain the air of caution many of them had.

He blinked, abandoning the train of thought; it hardly concerned him either way and he had a more pressing problem to deal with. Unfortunately what he could see of this hallway was largely unhelpful. Deciding to try heading to his right first, Brainiac 5 only made it a short distance until he found himself facing some stairs heading upwards. He briefly debated the merits of taking them, finally concluding that it would be more logical to continue his exploration of the current floor before possibly becoming lost by switching to a different one. Again he found himself regretting the loss of his internal systems and scanning devices, as he was having to rely on his own memory to draw a map of the areas he was passing through instead of a more accurate representation pieced together from obtained data. Fortunately this would only be a short-term problem. He was confident that he would be returned to his normal form in no time.

The area to his right having been largely unhelpful, Brainiac 5 turned and went back the way he came, continuing past his point of origin and noting with an internal sigh that beyond that there seemed to be more hallway. He supposed he shouldn't have been surprised by this point.
