Day 36: Intercom, Evening

The intercom's jingle rang out and the somewhat uninhibited movement that was going on between the main activity rooms halted as the Head Doctor made one of his usual announcements.

"Good evening everyone, and I'm very pleased to see so many of you in such high spirits after meeting with your loved ones! However, like with all good things, it can't last forever, so I ask now for nurses to escort our patients in the waiting rooms and in the main areas back to their rooms, where they will be treated with a special Sunday... steak! That's right: today, we'll be serving juicy, delicious steak with fries and cooked vegetables on the side – simple enough for everyone to like and good enough for everyone to thoroughly enjoy! (Our patients with specialized diets will receive their alternate meals, of course.) Our usual beverages are available, and for dessert, we'll be serving warm slices of apple pie.

"After all, patients, t's always wonderful to see all of you cooperating with the staff even when given so much freedom, so I'd like to personally thank and congratulate all of you for helping us, your family, and more importantly, yourselves. Hopefully, we can help you to a speedy recovery so that you can see your loved ones more often, but first... dinner! I hope to speak with you all again soon."

The intercom clicked off.

[ All room threads go in response to this post; please post your character's room number as the subject line of the initial post. Thank you!

On an added note, just wanted to clarify to players of characters who are canonly vegetarians and the like that you get to decide (within reasonable and realistic limits) what kind of diet your character gets from the staff. :3 ]

"Hey Brook," Archer greeted, as he noticed his roommate enter. He wasn't that far gone that he didn't hear the door opening. Monsters usually didn't come out until night, but he didn't want to take the chance of them getting the drop on him. This was Landel's hellhole after all. The rules could change at anytime.

When Brook began apologizing, Archer was reminded of last night's events. "Don't worry about it Brook. It's not your fault anyways. The responsibility lies with me as the team leader."

And while he may not have said it, he was a little relieve to see the pirate was safe. Now that his roommate had entered, Archer couldn't just stare off into space anymore. He was reminded that he needed to get ready for tonight, but even as he thought this, his movements lacked their usual luster. He turned to look at his friend. "You look like how I feel. Let me guess, you got a visitor too?"

"Nothing quite like that," Tony replied, though his eyes still glinted with amusement, as though at some private joke. "It's a relatively new phenomenon. In response to emergent threats, mostly, in terms of powers or otherwise. Developing any sort of effective organization's going to take time. Hell, convincing people there's a need for it'd take time, let alone the actual organization."

Artemis nodded slightly "We should... We seem to have the most serious conversations. I wonder if we could go one night without my taking things in a dark direction," the boy mused.

Haku smiled warmly. "I don't know," he said. "I'm rather good at leading you down that path myself."

Artemis gave a short laugh. "It takes two to tango. ...that's a dance, by the way."

Laughing, Haku nodded. "An interesting name for a dance," he said. "Do you 'Tango'?"

An attempt at moving the conversation to lighter topics.

"A bit, yes. But I'm better with the waltz. Speaking of which," Artemis gladly followed Haku into the land of lighter topics. "There's something in the pocket of my coat. Will you bring it to me?"

Re: M47

[identity profile] faithful-frost.livejournal.com 2008-10-27 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
Haku stood, moving over to the aforementioned coat and removed ... a bit of plastic. "This," he asked, holding it up.

"Yes," Artemis said. "It's a compact disc player--CD player for short. Schuldig bought it for me in town." The boy scooted over and patted the bed next to him. "I'd like you to listen with me."

Haku brought it over and sat down beside Artemis. "Here you are." He was curious about the 'see dee player'.

"All right," Artemis delicately slipped one of the headphones onto Haku's ear and put the other one on himself. Opening the lid, he began to peruse the track list. Ah, Berlioz. That was a good piece to start with. He flipped through the track numbers, finding the one he wanted, and he hit the play button.

"This is what I listen to in my world."

Haku blinked, leaning closer to listen. "Oh," he breathed, watching the player closely. "Wow."

Brook frowned when Archer took the blame, but he didn't want to argue and possibly make the both of theme feel worse. He decided to start into his meal instead, hoping things were at least better now. Archer looked fine enough, and he didn't need to know of the experience with the tree really. What had happened had happened, no changing that!

He looked up with half a mouthful of steak. "Ah, yes, I suppose. I'm still not so sure of what happened there though..." And Brook being confused was a new one. Bewildered maybe, but never completely confused. Usually he'd just find some answer for things and go with it, even if those things didn't make the best of sense, but at least then they made some sense! For this he couldn't find anything to make sense of.

Honestly, Wolfram had missed most of the day. He'd gone to brunch briefly and ate a little, but he'd left again even before half of the other patients had finished eating. Disappearing into the sun room, he'd curled up on a couch and fallen asleep rather easily, and spent almost the entire day that way. He'd woken up long enough to leave some notes on the bulletin board, and then..

Oh yes. Wolfram gave his roommate a rather curious look as soon as he got back to the room.

"You sure seem happy today." He was interrupted with a rather huge yawn before he could say anymore, still waking himself up a bit.

Leon shook his head. "Not too poorly, actually. And don't apologize. It's nothing you could help."

He thought for a moment. "Do you, uh, want to talk about it?" The mage didn't know what he'd be able to do as far as help or comfort went, but he could always attempt to be a good listener.

"This is how we record and store music. Large groups of people play the same part together and create this," Artemis was quiet as the piece began, as the volume was rather low at the very beginning. He slowly conducted the piece with his bandaged left hand, closing his eyes and enjoying the piece.

"It's called Hexensabbath. A witches' holiday," he translated.

"No, " Keman said gently, shaking his head. "I've complained enough already. I'm not the only one who got a visitor, and I daresay that I'm not the only one whose visitor was someone who'd been changed to fit the lies they're trying to feed us here. I'll be fine." After all, he'd gotten out all of that emotion when he had been with Shana in the library. She'd already been his shoulder to cry on...almost literally, at one point. Thankfully, he'd managed to hold it in. No need for further embarrassment. "Thank you, though. For offering. It was very nice of you."

Now it was time for a handy change of subject. "Have you heard of a human writer named William Shakespeare? I think he mostly wrote plays and poetry. Anyway, I found a volume of his works in the library this afternoon. They're...intriguing. Do you know if he's terribly famous?"

[identity profile] runner-up-robot.livejournal.com 2008-10-27 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
Forte's smile quickly vanished, as the subject he was trying to avoid thinking about came up. "I don't really know. Just now... there was something that looked like Wily, that tried to convince me of my false life. Wily is liar, but he's a terrible liar, this thing was... sincere."

[identity profile] littlegoblinjr.livejournal.com 2008-10-27 08:01 am (UTC)(link)
Harry looked away, his good mood dying just as quickly as Forte's had. "I know what you mean. I spoke to my father earlier. Thing is, this morning I was certain he'd been dead for several years now. Now," he shrugged, "He looked and acted just like him. I don't know what to think."

Re: M47

[identity profile] faithful-frost.livejournal.com 2008-10-27 08:04 am (UTC)(link)
Haku smiled, nodding and listening carefully to the music. It wasn't like anything he'd heard before.

"And all of your music sounds like this? Do people perform it for others? Or is it all stored on here?"

[identity profile] runner-up-robot.livejournal.com 2008-10-27 08:14 am (UTC)(link)
Forte sighed and moved on to his dessert, "Wily used to have robot doubles of himself, just so he couldn't be captured. Robots that looked just like a person, and acted... mostly like him, even if they could only be believable in specific circumstance." Then he grinned a little again, and added with a little pride, "of course, those stopped working once you hit them."

"Well, this is only one person's music. There are many different composers on this CD, and each one has a different style and voice."

He opened his eyes after a minute or so. "Groups all over the world gather together and play this music. Either for audiences or recordings. But there's nothing like being in the presence of a full orchestra playing one of these pieces. I myself played a Beethoven piano concerto in Dublin. I'll take you to a concert one day."

"That would be nice," Haku said, closing his own eyes to listen. He shifted closer, getting more comfortable on the bed without jarring the oxygen tank or tubes. "I have only ever gone to plays, but never had the chance to enjoy them."

Usually, it was for a job. Seeing something like this without having to worry about the person he was going to kill would be very nice indeed.

"It's really a grand affair. Everyone dressed in black tie--tuxedos and gowns, that is--sitting in the music hall, listening to the finest and most talented musicians work their magic. The low, clear A at the beginning, drawing the listener into the realm of musical expression."

Artemis' half-lidded gaze was growing more and more distant. "Music expresses what words cannot."

"Art does that," Haku said softly. "It's amazing really."
