Nightshift 35: Morgue

[from here]

Vlad waited for the helpful ninja to break the door down, and didn't enter the room until Sai was already inside, but did follow a bit quicker than he had for the previous hallway when he felt the rush of cold air inside.

Looking around with the flashlight, Vlad recognized the room immediately as storage for dead bodies. The empty beds waiting for passengers were a little dramatic somehow with the dim lighting, although it again surprised him that the beds weren't fully occupied in a place like this. Were the bodies cleaned up that quickly?

"Do you recognize what this room is?" he asked Sai in a mild tone. The young whoever from downstairs would probably not wind up on one of those beds, despite being a clear fatality--perhaps mopped up until a neater pile, then kept in one of those drawers in the wall. Or simply disposed of, however the bodies here wound up. "I wonder if there is anything in those right now..." Sliding one open to be attacked by the undead would be so cliche, though. "We seem to have more proper doors to explore as well, for now."

"It's a morgue." Sai's eyes narrowed as he looked around. His world and this one might be different in many ways, but they were still alike on a basic level. This wasn't the first time he'd seen a place like this. They were used more with the general populace, however, unless you counted the black market. Ninja were handled differently, as the techniques of a ninja could be stolen even after death and special precautions had to be taken against this.

But why would they keep this sort of room on the second floor of the building? It seemed impractical somehow. Most mental institutions didn't have their own morgues, did they? One would think that would be something of a turn-off for sending anyone here.

"Not promising."

Vlad certainly liked to talk.

Sai was willing to let him, looking around the room as he did with mild interest. The man was right, though. People didn't die here as often as one might think they would, given the circumstances. How many patients had this room actually seen?

Picked the door to the right after Vlad spoke, not particularly caring either way. It was unlocked, which was surprising, but at least it would save him some effort for now.
