Day 35: Bus 3 (Return Trip)

Armand wearily climbed the steps of the bus. He was less tired than cold, but it made his limbs ache. He hoped they'd actually make it back to the Institute before dark this time. He hadn't seen either Citan or Morrison in town, so he kept an eye out for either one climbing back  into the bus. He still wondered if Morrison had been able to rest today instead of coming to town. Other than a lunch that he hadn't liked and meeting a new face or two, he wasn't sure at all what he'd gained by the day. Oh well, he was more than used to disappointment and failure.

[waiting for Citan if Fey is backish]

Rainier met Daemon's gaze squarely, his pride not allowing him to do anything but face him. "It went well enough," he said. "I managed to acquire something useful today at least." If any of those from the coven arrived, then he probably had the best weapon to deal with them, or at least to distract them for long enough to deal with things.

"Oh?" Daemon inquired, looking intrigued. His scouting of the town last week had indicated that there was little useful to be found in the village, so Rainier's apparently resourcefulness surprised him.

Rainier smirked slightly and slipped the decently sized bar of chocolate fudge out from his sleeve for a moment for Daemon to see, before slipping it back in so the nurses wouldn't decide to confiscate it. He'd seen a few people being searched and having things taken off them. "There's one Queen here at least. I thought it might be prudent to be prepared."

Daemon blinked at the hidden piece of contraband, then quickly covered up a laugh as he turned his head away and coughed into his hand, composing his features once more. "Two, actually," he replied, turning back to Rainier. His golden eyes glinted warmly with amusement. "Clever of you, Warlord. I can see why Surreal counts you a friend."

Rainier couldn't help but smile at that, making sure that the fudge was properly concealed. "Two?" he asked curiously. "I've met Lady Lia, but the other?" Two Queens in one place. Things could get messy. "Working with the coven for so long teaches a man a few things," he said with humour.

"Karla's here," Daemon answered smoothly, recalling his encounter with the Glacian Queen, although he hadn't seen her since the day before. And he hadn't gotten a chance to ask Lucivar how things last night had gone, either.

"Although I'd be careful in what you say to her. She has less memories than I do. They took her from before the fighting started, so she has no idea about Morton or what happened to her."

At Rainier's humorous comment, Daemon's lips quirked. "I'm sure it does," he agreed. He hadn't had much of a chance himself yet, especially since the past few months he'd been in Kaeleer, he'd had to deal with the Coven's mistrust for the games he and Jaenelle had had to play out. He wasn't sure if he would ever regain their trust once more. Then again, his reputation as the Sadist wasn't one that often garnered trust very easily.

"Karla?!" Rainier asked, not entirely certain whether to be mused or terrified that the Glacian Queen was here. On the one hand, she was practically a force of nature but on the other, well, she was practically a force of nature. She was one of the most short tempered of the Queens that he knew for sure, and headstrong. "Mother Night have mercy," he muttered at the thought of how Karla would be taking this and of all the things that he'd need to keep hidden from her.

He smiled almost fondly at Daemon's comment. "I wouldn't change that time for anything in the world."

"Exactly," Daemon agreed with dry humor. Of all the witches that could have been brought here, Karla was certainly the most... frightening? Even he was a little on edge when her full attention was fixed on him.

At Rainier's smile, Daemon paused to study him intently for a moment. Despite the fact that Lucivar had told him about the roles he and Rainier followed, he knew very little about this man. Or at least, remembered none of it. "Tell me about it?" he prodded mildly after a moment, finding that he wanted to know more about this Warlord and how he thought.

"At least we can be certain that things will never be... routine with her around." Not that routine seemed to be a problem here, but Karla had a tendency to make even the strangest things even more unpredictable.

He remained still beneath Daemon's searching gaze, reminding himself that this Daemon didn't remember him and would take a while to get used to him. "About the coven?" he asked, not certain what Daemon wanted to know.

"That is probably a gross understatement," Daemon chuckled wryly, golden eyes glinting with amusement as he rested his head against his knuckles, looking casually slouched in the seat. "And yes, about the Coven. And your time with them. I'm afraid I still remember none of what you may have told me in your past, or what I should already know."
