Day 35: Wicker Street

[from here]

The sound of the dog lead Sheena to a building on the corner of the street. Seeing the name of it and the animals in the windows, she giggled, imagining how if Colette was here they'd never be able to get her to leave. The sweet angel would insist on staying until she held and played with every single puppy in the plac eand given them all names.

She'd only been gone a day and already Sheena was missing the simple things she'd come to accept traveling with her companions. She put her hand to the window, smiling softly (if a little lonely) at the puppy that noticed her and started wagging tis tail and licking the glass right where her hand was.

[Awaiting a chance to run into a sweet-toothed warlord!]

"I was here last week," Max nodded, tucking her hands in the pockets of her jeans as she glanced around the quiet little town with a wrinkle of her nose. "As far as I know, that was the first time they tried bringing us out of the institute en masse. I guess most of us 'behaved' enough to warrant a repeat." Sarcasm was thick in her voice as she turned back to him.

"You must be newer here, then?" she asked, holding her hand out to him in greeting. "The name's Max. Nice to meet you, Wash."

Wash had been under the assumption that this was an old tradition--tradition being loosely used here--but it seemed not. Did it mean something, that this trip out was so new?

He took her hand. "Yesterday," he replied, feeling somewhat like he was talking about being new to a place of employment. "But everyone's filled me in on all the fun facts, so I'm of a partially well-informed kind of new."

"That's better than the uninformed," Max countered, shooting him a wry grin. "And you've survived your first nightshift. Congratulations. Saves me from having to tell you things that'll convince you I'm crazy until you witness them yourself.," she added, shaking her head reufully.

She hitched a thumb at the restaurant she'd been heading towards. "I was gonna grab a bite to eat. You hungry or you feel like chasing leaves some more?" Her tone was teasing and there was laughter in her dark eyes to show that her words were meant only in jest.

"Crazy things like the dark? I witnessed a lot of the darkness."

Wash looked over as she pointed toward the same restaurant Armand had gone into just a few minutes earlier. Food sounded like a good idea. He could never turn down food.

"You know, in some places, leaf-chasing is considered a sport," he replied lightly. "But I'll go with hunger on this one."

"Well then you had a relatively safe night," she replied, looking amused and lifting a hand to motion to him to follow her. "Come on."
